WHO: Gwen and Lancelot
WHAT: Helping him get to the building...and blushing plenty all the way.
WHEN: Just after he arrived
WHERE: The Library.
RATING: Wont be high
STATUS: Incomplete

Gwen walked along the street towards the library, her hands fidgeting nervously with the hem of her dress. She didn't like this, that the longest type of dress a woman could buy was just below her knee, somewhere in her time she would never dare show off. But now, it seemed normal, and she saw women wear far less. The dress was another one of Morgana's choices, and she never really could say no to Morgana. The dress was simple and floaty, a plain yellow colour and she had been persuaded to buy little yellow pumps. It was a colour she was comfortable with, after all one of her dresses in Camelot were such a colour.

As she got nearer to the library, she could see Lancelot. There was no mistaking him amongst the few people native to this time walking past. Stopping for a moment, she took a deep breath and fixed the little bag she had to hold the PDA and her money pouch. Once she managed to calm the fluttering in her stomach slightly, she walked towards him again, stopping beside him.

"Hello, Lancelot," she said quietly, brushing back her loose hair. She had taken to wearing it down all the time, it took less time and seemed to be nicer anyway. Only problem was if it was raining or anything like that.

Lancelot had given up hope of getting anywhere with the so-called 'knights,' and simply slumped, tinkering with what Morgana had called the 'PDA.' Since appearing in this strange place, with no recollection of how, Lancelot's heart had been pounding as if preparing for a battle.

Now, he noticed, it was pounding in a completely different manner. When he looked up and saw her, he felt it stop completely.

She still looked just as he remembered... she still looked like the girl who had haunted his dreams since leaving Camelot. And yet... she did not. She was, perhaps, even more beautiful. He ducked his head, something akin to a bow. "Guinevere," he replied, and was glad he was not looking up yet, because heat shot to his cheeks when he noticed the length of her dress. He hoped it had passed as he met her eyes. "You look-- you look well."

She smiled a little at the small bow, knowing that even if she told him not to he still would. When he met her eyes again, her smile faltered a little as her stomach started to flutter even more. Could he tell just sitting there how fast her heart was beating? She very much hoped not.

"So do you," she said quickly, wanting to get the compliment out there before her throat closed up on her.

She knew she didn't look all that well. She was still not sleeping well and the bruises were still lightly on her neck, not faded completely yet. But it was still nice, if embarassing, to hear him say such a thing.

Quickly, Lancelot rose to his feet, somewhat embarrassed that he had not yet done so. He brushed his trousers off and smiled sheepishly. "Forgive my manners, my lady, my mind has still not caught up with me."

Now that he stood, and could see her properly, he could also see the marks on her neck. Something inside him coiled tightly, and his fingers automatically twitched at his side, ready to grip a hilt that wasn't there. So instead, he lifted them, letting them hover just a hair away from the bruises. "Guinevere, what happened to you?"

"Do not apologise, Lancelot, I understand how strange it is to be here."

She saw his eyes drop to her neck and wished she had hidden her neck. She should have known he would question the bruises. She gulped as his hand moved to her neck, stopping so short from the skin. She slowly looked up at him, biting her lip. Did she tell him the truth or try and avoid telling him. However, something told her that if she kept it from him he would keep asking.

"A man grabbed me by the throat a few days ago. It is nothing, I am fine now."

Lancelot could see the way her eyes darkened, and her features grew uneasy, and at first he wondered that she would not answer. His eyes widened when she did, and he felt a fire burst to life somewhere in his stomach. Guinevere's attempt at convincing him of her well-being barely reached his ears. He knew only that someone had hurt her, and that that someone must never be able to lay a hand on a single person again. Least of all Guinevere.

"Who was it?" he demanded softly, letting his hand drop. "Where is he?"

Her instinct wanted to reach out and place a hand on his arm in an attempt to calm his reaction. She watched as his hand fell to his side again, making that instinct hide. What was she thinking, trying to do something like that?

"I don't know. Arthur found us, hit him with the hilt of his sword. I've just stayed away from that part of town."

Mentioning that night and Arthur turning up instantly made her feel embarrassed. They had shared a light kiss that night, by accident of course. Her going to kiss his cheek and him turning to talk to her. Slowly, she pushed the thought from her mind as she looked up at Lancelot.

"I'm fine, Lancelot." She knew she wasn't, she still wasn't sleeping, but that didn't matter.

Sighing lightly, Lancelot watched for signs that she might be leaving details out of her tale. He thought perhaps she was, but it would not be very courteous to push her. He made a silent note to thank his prince when he saw him, for coming to Guinevere's aid.

"Alright," he agreed with a short nod, eyes trained on hers. "If you are certain."

She kept her eyes on his for a while as he stared at her. For a moment she thought she might end up getting lost just staring at him, her heart hammering fast in her chest. Then she realised he had said something, and she quickly latched onto his words, nodding in agreement. Biting her lip, she looked at the floor to try and calm her heart, before looking back up at him.

"So, shall we head to where you'll be staying? Do you know where?"

As the short spell was broken, Lancelot felt his own cheeks heating and glanced away. He fumbled for the PDA, perhaps only to put his mind elsewhere, as he had committed the number to memory anyway. "It said 107C. That is near to you-- and the others?" (He quickly added on the last three words of the question.)

She found herself smiling when he said he was near her, it didn't matter if he added that he was close to the others. Nodding, she moved her bag a little on her shoulder, waiting for him to indicate he was ready to leave.

"It is next to Morgana, and two doors away from me. Arthur and Merlin are on that floor as well."

"Oh. Good, I'm glad."

Lancelot was indeed ready to leave. But for a moment, he hesitated. Then, with a short clearing of his throat, he held out a crooked arm for Guinevere to take. It was the gentlemanly thing to do, after all, wasn't it?

"So am I," she admitted slowly.

When she heard him clear his throat, her eyes were instantly brought up to his. When she noticed what he was doing, she smiled a little before slipping her arm through his own, a light blush to her cheeks.

The way Guinevere's cheeks flushed did not go unnoticed, and Lancelot's heart quickened at how it somehow made her even prettier. He turned his face downward long enough to stifle too wide a smile. "Well then," he looked back up and nodded in the direction of where he assumed the buildings to be. "Shall we?"

Gwen nodded when he nodded towards the way she had came and began to walk, her arm tightly in his. For a moment they were silent, and it was not some awkward silence. She was comfortable just walking with him.

"So where did you go? After leaving. Not that you have to tell me, of course."

She felt slightly nervous, just wanting to know why he left when she had heard about him being accepted by Arthur.

"Everywhere," Lancelot laughed quietly. He thought of those months he spent riding from kingdom to village to kingdom, filled with a new vitality, knowing that once he was ready, he already had a place among Camelot's knights. "I continued training, learned everything I could from anyone who would teach me. When I returned to Camelot, I had to be sure that I was every bit the knight they needed."

He hesitated then, realizing he now finally had the chance to say what had plagued his conscious since riding his horse away from Camelot's gates. But did Guinevere want to hear it? Did it matter to her, as it did to him? "I wanted to say... I'm sorry, by the way. I-- I left without so much as an explanation, and I regretted every day not... not saying goodbye to you."

She listened as he spoke of where had had been and what he had done, but he did not really tell her a lot. But then again, what he did tell her was just enough. Brushing her hair back with her free arm, she kept her eyes from him as he mentioned the training.

"You already were," she said quietly, slightly embarrassed that she was admitting that she thought him the knight that he did not believe he was.

Then he was apologising, and her breath caught in her throat. He regretted it? Had done every day? That she had not expected.

"There is no need to be sorry, Lancelot."

"I fear you and Prince Arthur give me undue credit, my lady." Lancelot shook his head, though hearing that Guinevere had such faith in him gave warmth to everything within him. He couldn't tell her the real reason he'd so greatly felt he had to go. Not without giving away Merlin's secret. Except... hadn't Merlin said everyone knew about his magic here? So maybe... perhaps... "I did not kill the griffin. Not... not the way you were all led to believe."

As for whether or not he needed to be sorry... he thought perhaps he would leave continuing that conversation for another time.

She wanted to protest, to say that he was given the right amount of credit in her eyes. That he should have more. But then he was continuing his words and she frowned. She turned to look at him in confusion at his words. What did he mean by that?

"What do you mean?" she asked quickly, her usual shyness hiding for a moment.

Lancelot bit his lip. More than anything, he hated the idea of disappointing her. Of making her think any less of him. But Lancelot had sworn to himself, no more lies. Now that it was safe to share Merlin's victory, he could no longer allow himself to make it his own. "It was Merlin," he admitted quietly. "The griffin could only be killed by magic. So we rode out to the forest after Arthur and his knights had been defeated by it... Merlin enchanted my lance, and I ran the griffin through. But... I only held the weapon. Without Merlin's magic, I would have been as helpless as the others." He paused, afraid to catch Guinevere's eyes for fear of what they might no longer hold. "That is why I could not accept Prince Arthur's offer to stay. I could not allow the first code to be broken for achieving a feat I did not really achieve."

She kept her eyes on him as he spoke the truth, a little shocked. She did not know that the Griffin could only be killed by magic and it was only by coincidence that she had ran to Merlin to tell him Lancelot was running off. Biting her lip, she tried to think of what to say. Her mind was buzzing slightly, and she knew how she felt about such a situation, but was slightly embarrassed to say so.

"But it was still you in a way. Merlin used his magic on your weapon, if not for your weapon wouldn't the magic be useless? Unless Merlin's magic can kill just by saying the spell."

He shugged with his free arm, appreciating her words but still unable to be convinced by them. "Perhaps, but Arthur and probably any of his knights could have done the same, had they had a warlock at their side. Arthur struck the beast more than once with his sword. The spell is all that separated me from the rest. I... I need my own skills to separate me from the rest."

She kept her eyes from him for a moment, thinking. He really did want to prove himself, and he had the chance only to not want to take the credit for what happened. She found herself wondering how many knights would do that. Not take up the offer of being a knight just because they felt they did not earn it.

"It is done now, you killed the beast. Not that I'm saying it does not matter just because it's in the past I'm just saying that all that matters is now and..."

She stopped herself talking, knowing that if she didn't she would ramble on for a while.

Lancelot could not help but smile despite himself. It was sweet, the way she went on that way. "I appreciate your faith, my lady," he said, both to show he did not mind her string of speech, and because it was the truth. He chanced a glance at her then, meeting her eyes, and was relieved to see no difference in the warmth there. "You are all... alright with it, then? Merlin's... abilities?" he asked the question mostly so he would not get caught up and stare too long.

When Lancelot looked back at her she smiled a little, happy that he did not seem annoyed at her constant words. Then he was questioning how she felt about Merlin's magic and she bit her lip. She would have preferred finding out a different way, but it didn't matter now. It was only then she realised what she remembered as her future self. She married Arthur. So what happened with Lancelot?

"I am. He is not exactly using his abilities for evil so I see no reason to not be alright."

Lancelot nodded, relieved for his friend. Magic had not been banned where he came from, so the idea that magic might be inherently evil was not something he had ever grown to believe. But Uther's iron fist on the concept was notorious in all the lands he had travelled. Lancelot was glad to hear it did not have a hold on all his subjects. "He is lucky to have a friend like you, Guinevere," he told her quietly. "It must have been difficult, though... for Prince Arthur. His father being who he is..."

She flushed at his compliment, looking at the floor. She never really thought anyone was lucky to have her around. She was just always there. However when he brought the conversation to Arthur, she nodded a little.

"He knows what he believes to be right or wrong but he has to listen to his father."

Even in his short stay at Camelot, Lancelot had seen how loyal Arthur tried to be to his father. And he had seen how he struggled with it. "He was the one who let me out of the dungeons," Lancelot pointed out in agreement. "He would have done more for me... he wanted to. Had the king allowed it. Arthur will... he'll be a great king one day."

"I know he will be."

Again she was reminded of what she had witnessed when she had changed. The things she could remember, the thoughts of how good a King he was. She already knew that, of course, she didn't need a trip to the future to know such things.

Lancelot smiled a bit at her, glad his faith was shared. When he looked forward again, they were very close to a large building. "Is this it, then?" he asked, suddenly a little... nervous, was it? about seeing his other friends from Camelot. Whatever the reason and justification, he had stormed into Camelot, nearly ruined everything, and breezed back out again. After all that they had risked for him. He did not want them to be upset with him.

She looked forward as he spoke, realising they had arrived at the housing before she even realised. That was quicker than normal. Brushing her hair back, she smiled up at him.

"That's it."

She kept walking, knowing she had to head to his room, and luckily she knew where it was.

"It is... nice. Rather... large," he commented. Of course, it wasn't as big as the castle at Camelot. But Lancelot had some from a simple peasant village, and the homes there would barely cast a shadow upon this place. Meanwhile, Gwen's kind smile had calmed his nerves a bit, and he followed where she led.

"There are quite a few floors, not all of the full I don't think."

She brought him to the building they were in, pointing to the first two doors opposite each other, telling him that was where Arthur and then Merlin lived. Walking further down, she then pointed out her door with a slightly nervous laugh before distracting him with his own door.

"That is where you are," she said, before pointing out Morgana's room also.

It really was comforting to know they would all be so close by. Not even only because of Guinevere though... she was a large part of it. But Merlin and Arthur too, and even Lady Morgana, though he had not gotten to know her as well as he had the others. Lancelot had spent most of his life travelling, and despite being there such a short time, Camelot had been the closest to a real home Lancelot had felt since childhood. It would be nice, to be surrounded by these people again. Even in such strange circumstances.

"Well then..." Lancelot's eyes flickered from his door, to the floor, to Guinevere. "I er... suppose I should bid you farewell, for now. I-- it was very kind of you to escort me, Guinevere." He picked up her hand and kissed it swiftly, just as embarrassed as he had been the first time he'd completed the gesture. "Thank you."

She felt slightly embarrassed. stadning outside his door and waiting to see what he was going to do next. Then he was reaching for her hand, his lips pressing gently against her skin. She took a deep breath, biting her lip gently. She liked that, his formality and yet it was kind and caring at the same time. Even if they shouldn't be this caring towards each other. But friends could act like that, couldn't they?

"It was no trouble, Lancelot. If you ever need help I am willing to do so. I am just a few doors away remember."
