The studying of him won't reveal anything more than what she already sees. Except maybe that he's standing in a position that shows he's at ease. He's had years to perfect the look of relaxed even if the muscles under the surface were easily ready to strike. He gives a shrug, fingers still playing with the coin in them. At the mostly uninterestedness she's giving off of that topic, he drops it easily. No use poking something so trivial if she doesn't want to talk about it. Just antiques after all.
Aubrey's position shifted a little to face her more than the window. If she's watching she'll catch his eyes shift from completely black to human looking hazel in a blink. "And yet you tensed a little." To be far, he had yet to try any mind tricks, nor had he even tested the defenses on her mind. Part of Caryn was wearing off on him in that effect. He'd stopped listening to her, and that habit had bleed into his natural habit of skimming surface thoughts. Now he only did it when he was looking for answers. And here and now, he wasn't actually looking for anything. Which meant that he wouldn't even be trying, unless she gave him a reason to test those shields. "Possibly for some," he gives a small raised shoulder. "For those that actually need it." There's an actual answer in those words somewhere. If she knows how to listen to them. And yes, he can see past the human show. Her scent doesn't reflect a normal humans and she'd tensed when he'd shown up. Normal humans had been reacting to him normally since he'd gotten here, which lead him to believe she'd picked up on him from his first step next to her. Which isn't normal.
