Q didn't like having to be the one to tell him these things and missed being able to let the elders and Kathryn Janeway handle such lectures. Fatherhood was not something he was suited to and he was stumbling, quite horribly, through it in a place where he was without anyone to offer him guidance or assistance.
For an omnipotent being with all the answers, Q was quite lost.
