He blinked at the voice, but his head didn't move to look at her. He'd broken that instinct early, when he realized that looking up at someone would give them a good view of what he was. Still, the girl had shown him kindness, and he didn't want to seem rude. He took a moment to tug the hood down a little more, keeping most of his face covered. Everything from his upper lip down was still visible, but it was the best he could do. He just had to hope she could handle the scarring and stitches on what was visible.
He lifted his head to look at her, a small smile curling up his somewhat disfigured lips. "Thank you. It is nice to meet you, Claire." His voice was deep and rumbling, and had a sort of scratchy quality to it. After a moment, he added, "Personal Digital Assistant. I can see why it is shortened." After a moment of consideration, he held the device out to her. "I've gathered that you enter words using the buttons, but...I am unsure how to operate this PDA beyond that. Would you mind...?" He paused again, thinking about what he should say, and added, "I would like to tell you my name...but I am afraid I do not have one." He knew that if he were here for more than a few days that would have to be remedied, but it wasn't his most important priority right now.
All he could hope now was that she wouldn't run screaming from his ugliness. Such had happened far too often in his life, and seeing fear in the eyes of everyone around him had taken its toll.
