Who: Andrew Wells and Dawn Summers
What: Andrew is bored at work and welcomes customers.
When: Thursday afternoon.
Where: The magic shop he works at.
Rating: Dude. It's Andrew. Chances are it won't go all that high.

If there was one thing Andrew hated, it was being bored. And, okay, so maybe he hated a few things. But being bored was kinda up there on the list of things. And when he was working by himself, had the shelves fully stocked, and hadn't seen a single customer in a few hours? Yeah. That was just a touch boring. If it was a touch from a Decepticon and therefor not a very gentle one.

Sighing, Andrew wandered back to the books on magic (the authentic ones, thanks) and pulled one of the intermediate ones from the shelf. He'd been meaning to ask Willow if she could teach him some more while they were stuck there, he'd wanted to learn more for ages but they had just stayed so busy over the last few years that he hadn't really had the chance. Well, there had been plenty of chances to ask but not so many to actually learn. But he figured that, if nothing else, he could use his free time at work to dig through the books and see what he could learn on his own before getting around to asking her for help. So he carried the book back to the counter and plopped back down in the seat he had stashed behind the register. Hopefully one of two things wold happen. Either a customer would show up, or he would learn something from that book.

Dawn had taken it upon herself to venture out of her assigned apartment alone, even though she knew she would probably be told about it, and not so nicely, either. But so far, no one had mentioned anything dangerous, anything she should be wary of, and so the young girl figured she had every right to go out and take a look around the city. What trouble could she possibly get into by doing a little sight-seeing?

It was only by chance that she happened to wander into the very same magic shop that Andrew worked at, and she grinned for numerous reasons when she walked inside.

"Hey!" she greeted, making her way up to the front counter. "You work here?" An obvious question, but also a bit rhetorical. Of course he worked there, but she was just so pleasantly surprised. She almost knew that she could somehow worm her way into getting Andrew to let her play around with a few magical supplies. Ones that wouldn't bring about any demons or anything, of course. Dawn was so over that.

Andrew quickly looked up when he heard the little bell over the door ring, then smiled when he saw none other than the Dawnster walk in to the shop. "Hey there, Dawnie," he said, closing the book and setting it aside. "Yep. This is the place that pays me. What are you doing around here?"

He was honestly curious as to what had brought her down to Ye Olde Magick Shoppe, not that that was what it was called, thank Yoda.

"Just sort of out and about and making with the mischief?" he asked. Okay, so Dawn probably wasn't making with the misch-- okay, so it was totally likely. But hopefully after all the species changes she'd been through over the past couple years, she'd have learned better than mischief making.

Except, oh crapadoodle. This was a younger version of her than he was used to, if he was remembering right. Oh well, maybe this time she'd learn before sleeping with an Threewise.

"No, no, no," she responded with an earnest shake of her head, even wagging a finger at him for extra dramatic effect. "I am not making with the mischief. I'm making with the explorations of a city that thinks it's a Hoover, with all the suckiness of different universes and stuff."

She glanced around for a moment, and for more than a split second, she really did look quite mischievous as she eyed all of the wonderful magicky goodies that seemed the fill the shop to the brim. She was like a kid in a candy store.

Looking back to Andrew, she smiled again. "Got anything good?"

"You'd better not be," the smile on Andrew's face didn't falter as he teased her a bit. Okay, so it was very possible that the point Dawn was from didn't include her expecting him to be so friendly towards her and stuff. But, the Scoobies were his family in the point of time he came from, and that made Dawn his little sister. Besides, it didn't hurt that she was the only one that had been a part of the group longer than him (sort of?) and was still younger.

But at her next question, Andrew perked a brow at her. "Don't you think that question should be rephrased a bit so that it's more... Got anything good that Buffy would let me play with?" Really, last thing he wanted was the big leader getting on his case cause the baby sis accidentally brought about a demon. Or got turned into a giant. Or a centaur. Or a doll. All of which he'd seen her either do or have happen to her.

Dawn hadn't thought much about Andrew being so friendly towards her. She was just so thrilled to see someone she even semi-knew when she first arrived, and that in itself had caused her to just throw all caution to the wind. Granted, if some big bad had come along and introduced himself to her, she wouldn't have been so happy about it, but Andrew was hardly in that category.

Albeit playfully, Dawn pursed her lips and rolled her eyes. "Fine. Got anything good that Buffy would let me play with?" A moment later, she was grinning, giving him a 'pretty please?' sort of look.

"I don't know," Andrea started again, still teasing her some. At least for the time being. "I mean, I think we've got some bouncy-balls around here somewhere for when the kiddos come in. I'm pretty sure those would be Buffy approved."

He was kidding though. Honestly. And really, he knew that he was the most likely to let Dawn play with something that he shouldn't let her. But, at least if he was there and handing things to her, she wouldn't get her hands on anything too bad.

He took a quick glance around the shop, then stood from his chair and headed towards one of the racks of inventory. "Actually, there should be something on here you'd probably like..." he said as he started to look over it.

She gave another quick roll of her eyes, though this time, the gesture was accompanied by a smirk. She knew he was only teasing her, and she was glad that by now, people were starting to treat her like an adult, not just a little kid. She felt she'd proven herself more than enough over the past few months -- of her timeline anyway. She'd done her share of intense research, she'd killed vampires and demons alike, she'd helped translate all kinds of really old and dusty texts... She was valuable! And certainly not a kid anymore.

"Bouncy balls, please," she said with an overdramatic flair, though she dropped the act when Andrew moved towards a nearby rack. "Ooh, what is it?" she asked, clasping her hands together near her heart.

"Aha!" Andrew proclaimed when he spotted what he was looking for. He reached out and snatched up a metallic pink crystal, then turned around and held it out to her.

"And no, I didn't think of this cause it's pink. It's supposed to bring luck." And anyone who had spent time with the youngest of the Summers girls knew that she tended to need some extra luck from time to time. "We can test it out some if you want to."

And hey, if he cold prove that it worked, he could probably get it sold pretty quick.

There was no stopping the grin that swept over Dawn's face when he handed over the crystal, informing her of it's powers. She was trying to be all mature here, and yet she was acting like a kid on Christmas morning. She couldn't help it, though. Anything of the magical variety was her absolute weakness.

"How does it work?" she asked, turning the object over in her hands as she looked down at it. "Like, are there any incantations you have to say? Or is it like a rabbit's foot, only less fuzzy and less...depressing."

And Andrew knew that she was a sucker for the magics, and that was both a good and a bad trait she had. But, what was the harm in letting her play with something that wasn't going to get her into trouble? Especially since she wasn't going to be taking it out of the shop unless she paid for it, which he didn't think she was going to do. Something like this tended to have a semi-hefty price tag.

"It's like a rabbit's foot I think," he started, then moved to sit on the table not too far away. Boy, this place sure did look like Giles and Anya's magic shop before it went all kabloey with the rest of Sunnydale. "Except, you know. No cute little bunnies had to give up a foot for it. I really should look into why they're supposed to be lucky anyway, since they don't seem to be lucky for the rabbits."

Dawn had to assume that she wasn't going to be going anywhere with that crystal, but it wasn't going to stop her from trying to get her way at the same time. Maybe if she pouted or something! Andrew was like a big old softie, really, and Dawn was interested in seeing how much she could push her luck -- no pun intended -- with him.

"That's so sad. I wonder what happens to the rabbit after they give up their foot?" She turned the crystal over in her hands again, feeling it's cool, smooth surface. She was already eager to try it out, but how was she supposed to see if she was suddenly lucky if she didn't go out and about? "Anyway, I'll go out and buy a lottery ticket or something. Maybe I'll win like a million dollars or something!"
