WHO: Jo Harvelle & Dean Winchester.
WHAT: They both need a drink. Desperately.
WHEN: Shortly after they both arrive in the city.
WHERE: Some random bar.
RATING: PG-13.
STATUS: Complete.

Jo closed up her PDA that she'd been using to talk on the boards, still unsure of what the hell she was doing with it, as well as the hundred bucks that was stashed away in her pocket. She wasn't going to complain about the latter, though, but the fact of the matter was, she couldn't blow it all on booze, no matter how much she wanted to. She didn't have anymore money than that hundred bucks, and it wasn't like drinking herself into a stupor would take her back home or help her figure out what she was going to do with herself in this place. What she was going to do with Dean in this place.

She'd never forgotten him, or Sam for that matter, even when she'd first parted ways with them. She'd been angry and bitter back then, after finding out the truth when it came to her father's death, but time had helped heal those wounds. She knew it wasn't right to blame the boys for anything, but holding a grudge didn't seem to matter since she didn't plan on seeing them ever again. And now she was stuck in a weird ass city full of weird ass people, and Dean was right there with her.

Shifting on the stool she was sitting on at the bar, she took a swig of her beer and finished off the bottle, motioning for a second as she waited.

He really wasn't sure what had possessed him to meet Jo of all people to get drunk and commiserate over their new found situation. Hell even the Lois chick who knew his brother and some alternate version of him for some reason probably had the potential to be less awkward. But yet there he was, walking (because apparently this place liked to fuck with him in all the parts that mattered) to the bar they'd agreed on wondering just what the hell he was doing.

It could be good though, he figured, they'd have some drinks, talk about the fucked up situation and end the night on better terms than the last time they'd met. Or it could go horribly wrong. And for the life of him he didn't know why it mattered to him that it went well. He'd gone to Hell after all without even a goodbye, though he'd be a liar if he said he almost didn't dial that number a few times in those last weeks. But he'd been bound and determined that her life would be better off without him to fuck it up. He was a Winchester and they brought death and destruction with them anywhere they went.

He walked into the bar and easily spotted the familiar blonde head sitting on a stool. He paused there for a moment knowing full well he could still walk away, stand her up and give her reason to be mad and angry and that would be that. Instead he walked up to the bar and sank easily into the stool next to hers, catching the eye of the bartender before he left.

"Make that two," he said and then turned to her. "Hey, Jo."

It was always worse in person. Over the boards it had been awkward and strange enough, but in person, you couldn't really hide anything. Jo had become an expert at ignoring phone calls and texts and emails, since her mother had been sending them day in and day out since she left, at least at first. After a few weeks, all of that stopped, and while Jo was slightly relieved, she was even more upset about the fact that all attempts to contact her had stopped. It was like the door had been slowly closing behind her all that time, and when the calls stopped, the door slammed shut and locked tightly behind her. There was no going back. She supposed she could have gone back home if she wanted, but not anymore. Definitely not anymore.

Turning at the feel of someone else's presence nearby, Jo watched as Dean slumped down onto the stool beside her and ordered himself a beer along with hers. She had to force herself not to stare, but the truth was, it had been a long time. He didn't look different, not really anyway, but she knew he'd somehow changed. She didn't know how, since she didn't know much about what he'd been up to since they'd parted ways last, but it was just obvious in his face.

"Hey," she greeted, giving a small nod of acknowledgment before glancing down at her hands, her thumbs brushing over the label of the empty bottle she'd been holding. "Been a while, hasn't it?" It was an obvious statement she'd turned into a question, but it was the first thought that came to mind, even considering the state they were in now.

Well this was a bad idea he couldn't help but think as the awkwardness settled in between them. "Yeah, well, I meant to call..." he started but couldn't quite find it in himself to finish it. Anything he could or would say at this point would be a lie and looking over at her he simply didn't want to. Jo wasn't the kind of girl he could just spin some story to, not that he really knew what kind of girl she was. It was just, different.

"Pretty messed up situation hey," he said instead and gratefully took his bottle of beer when the bartender handed it to him, taking a long drink. "Didn't much expect to end up in some freaky Twilight Zone dimension when I woke up this morning."

As he started to tell her that he was planning to call, she couldn't help but let one corner of her mouth quirk upward into a small smirk. She knew better than to believe that, but she didn't really have it in her to actually say so out loud. Things were awkward enough already, she didn't need to add any fuel to the fire. Besides, they weren't there to chat about warmth and fuzziness. They were just going to do some drinking and swap stories on what they thought about their new and crazy situation.

"Kind of an understatement," she replied, taking her own beer and immediately pulling a long swig from it before adding, "It's weird to see so many people used to it. I don't know if I could ever get used to being stuck in one place like this, especially with all of the insane stuff I've heard goes on." A pause. "You don't think this is some weird demon thing, do you? That's all I could think about when I first got here. Something's just messing with everybody and we can take it out if we knew enough."

He took another drink as she talked and shrugged his shoulders at the question. "Only thing I can think of that could do something like this would be a trickster," he paused, seemingly weighing something for the moment. "Last time me and Sammy ran into him he pulled this crazy Groundhog Day thing, stuck Sam in some time loop where I kept dying."

He suddenly grinned. "But hey, on the bright side I'll now know what I would have looked like as a chick," he offered, quickly changing the subject.

Jo wrinkled her nose up at the description Dean gave of his last run-in with a trickster. She had never encountered one herself, but she'd definitely heard stories -- none of which were as upsetting as Dean's, though. She couldn't really imagine what that had been like for either of the Winchester boys. "I don't know if it would be able to do something like this though. Seems a little far out there even for one of those." She shrugged, though. It was something she planned on looking into at least, but she didn't care to talk about it much. It only gave her a headache, and the only headache she wanted just then was one caused by a serious amount of alcohol.

Taking another swig of her beer, one brow arched in Dean's direction. "What the hell are you talking about?" she asked, one corner of her mouth quirking upward into a smirk.

"The one Sam and I ran into could probably pull it off, the only thing I can't figure out is the why," he replied. "Tricksters, they usually want to prove a point, you know bring people down a peg or teach someone a lesson. Stranding a bunch of people in some alternate dimension doesn't seem up his alley."

"One of my roommates, she... he... whatever, it, is a girl who used to be a guy who looked like me. So if you were ever curious as to what this handsome face would look like as a girl stop by," he said with cheeky grin.

"Well, okay, so he could do something like this," Jo replied with a small sigh. "But yeah, I mean, it seems pretty weird even then. Would a trickster really go after so many people at once?" She wasn't expecting a real answer, since Dean apparently didn't know anymore than she did about the whole thing. They'd even arrived at the very same time. She couldn't help but wonder about that, too, if it meant something or if it was just a crazy coincidence.

She very nearly spit her mouthful of beer all over the bar top at Dean's next words. "Oh, yeah, always been a dream of mine," she responded with a light laugh. "What's it like, then, seeing yourself as a chick?"

"Why Jo I had no idea you swung that way," he teased her with raised brows before he grinned. He pondered her question for a moment as though answering it would be the toughest thing he would do all day. "Honestly? I'd do chick version of me if I didn't know better," he answered and took a drink.

"So what about you, met your roommate yet?" he asked her.

She rolled her eyes good-naturedly, shaking her head a little as she took another drink. For a place that was whacked out beyond all belief, she had to admit that this was a good part, seeing Dean again. She wanted to ask a few serious, probing questions, but the conversation was lighthearted and easy-going, and she didn't want to ruin it.

"Not yet. I know it's a guy, though, but other than that, no clue." She couldn't help but smirk. "Try not to be too jealous."

He knew she was probably mostly joking with the comment and he tried to ignore the fact that he oddly was, a little at least. Which was odd really, he hadn't seen her in years, he had taken himself out of her life and now something in him decided to be jealous that some dude got to live with her. He took a long drink for his beer, finishing the bottle and nodded when the bartender asked if he wanted another while he decided it had to just be some misplaced and misguided sense of worry, that he'd rather her be rooming with him or Sam because at least one of them could keep an eye on her in case this place turned bad. That had to be it.

He shrugged, "I'll make sure it doesn't keep me up at night." He glanced at her as he waited for his drink and really looked at her for the first time since sitting down. She still looked mostly the same, maybe older, a little rougher. She looked, he realized with a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach, like a hunter.

Considering the things that Jo had confessed to Dean the last time they'd seen each other, she probably should have thought her comment through before she actually said it out loud. Not that she expected any kind of grand reaction. So much time had passed, and maybe he just figured she didn't have those same feelings for him anymore. To be honest, Jo wasn't sure how she felt about him, or anybody, really. It had been a long time since she'd last had some real human contact like this.

She nodded and finished off her beer, rocking the empty bottle back and forth in her hands before she glanced up and caught Dean watching her. She met his gaze for a moment before asking, "How've you been?" It wasn't just a casual question that one old friend would ask another on a random, everyday basis. There was intense meaning behind the question, as if Jo knew just how horrible and chaotic things had been for him.

Dean took his beer from the bartender just as Jo asked her question and he had probably never been more grateful to have a drink in hand as he was in that moment. He missed when how've you been was a less loaded question that it was now. He wasn't even sure if there was a word for how he'd been. The last year had seemed like some sort of waking nightmare with no end in sight, to the point where as fucked up of a situation it was he couldn't help but be a little glad to be stuck in bizzaro land, for a few days at least, a break from all the crap he had left behind.

"Peachy," he replied because really what else could he say. "How's hunting treating you?" he asked, figuring if she wanted to go into the loaded questions territory it was only fair he get to do a few of his own.

Jo had known she wasn't going to get a long, detailed answer in response to that question, even if she knew Dean probably had a lot to say. Through her various hunting-related travels, she managed to pick up on a few stories and rumors about the Winchester brothers, and most recently, there had been mention of Lucifer.

"How does hunting treat any hunter?" she asked with a smirk that wasn't entirely heartfelt. "Always gotta kick something's ass, you know? And something's always trying to kick yours."

"It still everything you thought it would be?" he couldn't help but ask. It would be an understatement to say that the events of the past few years had left him a little bitter towards the whole lifestyle and in his mind Jo still had a choice all those years ago and in he would always think she chose wrong.

He took another drink and paused for a moment. It was easier talking with her than he thought it would be but it still had that strange tinge of awkwardness that most conversations he tried to carry on with people did lately. "How's your Mom?" he finally asked.

She figured the question had been dancing around in his mind for the longest time now, and she wasn't surprised that he'd asked it. She could easily remember how against her choice he'd been, though he wasn't the only one who didn't seem to understand why she wanted to hunt. She figured no one ever really would.

"I never had high expectations for it, Dean," she said, that slight hint of bitterness creeping back into her voice. She was quick to swallow it down, though. After all, the bitterness was replaced by awkwardness and near embarrassment when he asked about Ellen. "I haven't talked to her in a while."

"Jo..." he started but whatever he wanted to say seemed to get lost into silence. The last thing he wanted was for her to think he was just sitting there lecturing her, he somehow doubted that would go well. He took another drink letting it all mull over in his mind. So she was hunting and not talking to her Mom, which bothered him more than he thought it probably should. Who the hell was looking out for her out there.

"How long is a while?" he settled on asking, hoping it came out like a casual question and not full of the worry the situation seemed to want to cause. She should have had someone watching out for her.

She just pursed her lips and gave him a look, one that told him not to even go there. She definitely didn't want a lecture, especially not now. If she was going to be stuck in some fucked up alternate dimension place, she wanted to be able to defend herself and others the way she wanted. Thankfully, he dropped that particular subject.

She motioned for another beer, knowing now she was going to need it. "Couple of months," she answered, not looking over at Dean as the bottle was placed down in front of her. As if to stop herself from continuing, she took a long drink.

"A couple of months?" he repeated. "Jesus, Jo, what the fuck." For the life of him he couldn't understand what the hell would possess her to not talk to her Mom for months. "So you just what, let her wonder what the hell you've been up to, if you're even alive?" He honestly didn't care if he was well into "lecture" territory at that point, he wanted at least some sort of insight into just what the hell she was thinking, making Ellen worry like that.

Jo rolled her eyes, even though she knew it was an immature reaction. She couldn't help it, though. He was jumping down her throat and jumping to conclusions, and she didn't like it one bit.

"Look, she kept the truth about my dad's death a secret from me for my whole life. That's because she knew telling me would only make me want to hunt even more than I did to begin with. I took off for a little while to just get my head on straight, because yeah, it was kind of a bomb that got dropped on me, and as time went on, she told me that until I stopped wanting to go through with hunting, I shouldn't come home at all." She took another drink, another long one, hoping she would soon get drunk enough to just pass out and hopefully wake up in her pickup or a hotel the way she usually did.

He could definitely understand where she was coming from, it wasn't like his relationship with his family had always been peachy keen but he still got lost on the part where she hadn't talked to Ellen for months. He just shook his head and took another drink. "So, she's your Mom, Jo. You work through it, you figure it out. You don't just go running off and cutting yourself off from your family."

It seemed so wrong to him. He'd barely known his Mom and here she was throwing away the relationship she'd had with hers. He was angry at her for it, and more than that he just had no clue what the hell she was thinking. "Your family's all you got Jo, you throw that away and you might as well be the things you're so dead set on hunting."

She shook her head and took another drink, reaching up with her free hand to push her blonde hair out of her face. "I wouldn't have done it if she hadn't kept something like that from me. Whether or not it makes me want to hunt more, I have a right to know how my dad died." It had been years, and it still pained her to talk about her dad. She supposed that never really went away, though.

All of a sudden, she gave a mirthless laugh, chugging her beer until it was nearly gone. "Not like it matters here though. You and Sam are the only ones here that I know from back home."

He watched her chug down the beer and weighed the options of continuing down this line of conversation. On the bright side maybe she'd just get pissed enough at him to stop this whole thing right then and there. Or at least the part of him dead convinced he was no good for anyone even at the base barely friends level saw that as the bright side. He motioned for the bartender to get her another. Maybe he had been wrong, maybe he should have phoned her, kept in touch, then at least she would have had someone watching out for her. Not that he expected her to push Ellen out of her life.

"Hopefully we won't be here long, as far as timing goes to be stuck in some alternate dimension this couldn't have been worse." He shifted his beer bottle between hands and took another drink. It wasn't like he really wanted to go off and fight Lucifer but apparently it was some predestined crap and he had to. Plus he'd grown a little fond of the world on the whole and the idea of being stuck in Colligo while everything back home went to hell, literally, didn't sit very well with him.

Jo already felt mentally exhausted. The whole idea of being sucked into some weird alternate universe was enough to send anyone straight for a booze-induced coma, but the conversation was just as stressful and tiring. She didn't want to keep going with it anymore.

Even though Jo knew Dean was insinuating that something urgent was going on back home for him, she allowed a small smirk to appear at one corner of her mouth. "Why? Have a hot date waiting for you or something?" Not that she liked the idea, but it was a lighthearted attempt at a joke, and it was better than dragging either of them down even more.

Oh he was so taking that out. The conversation had turned more than heated along the line and he was finding it hard to keep track of what he should and shouldn't be thinking sitting there next to her. But then she'd always seemed to be able to do that, make him say things he hadn't planned on, take conversations down roads he didn't really want them to go.

He traded up his empty for a new beer and tipped the bottle in her direction a little with a grin. "Actually I got asked to be a judge of a Sorority Bikini Contest," he joked back.

Jo couldn't possibly have felt jealous at Dean's response, just because it was so ridiculous. Besides, she was too relieved that he apparently didn't have a date waiting for him.

"Sorry you're missing out," she replied with a slowly forming grin. "I'm surprised you didn't try re-creating another one right here."

He couldn't even remember the last time he'd had a "hot date"; life had just gotten out of control and between the Seals, the Angels, Sam and his relationship completely falling apart and his own issues with his memories of his time in Hell there just didn't seem like time to do anything for himself. He hadn't even really thought about it until jo had even brought it up.

He grinned at her. "Night's still young," he pointed out and took a drink. "Plenty of time to start a Sorority Bikini Contest."

"I guess so," she replied with a chuckle, taking another drink and then placing her half-empty bottle back down on the bar. She was definitely feeling pretty buzzed by now -- not fall down drunk, but warm and fuzzy, which was nice. It definitely distracted her from the insanity that was this new and strange place. Now that their mini argument seemed to be over, Dean was proving to be a nice distraction, too.

Glancing back over her shoulder, she just absentmindedly checked the door before looking back to Dean, an eyebrow quirked curiously. "So what are you planning on doing after this?" It sounded a bit suggestive, but she was trying to pass it off as mere curiosity. Really, she didn't know what she was doing. She could have gone back to her room, the one her PDA had provided her with, but she couldn't help but wonder what he planned on doing now.

When she asked what he was doing after with that damn tone he had to take a moment to remind himself that this was Ellen's daughter and how bad of an idea it would be to sleep with her first night here and completely fuck this whole thing up. It was Jo and she deserved a hell of a lot more than that. He took a drink and shrugged.

"My roommates are practically lesbians in a weird one of them used to be a dude but now they're both totally hot chicks sort of way, I'm so getting them drunk," he plotted with a grin. Chances of him actually following through with said plan were slim to none but the idea was at least entertaining for the moment. And didn't involve screwing one of the few remaining friends the Winchesters actually had.

Jo laughed briefly for a moment, but then she leaned back (slightly wobbily at that) with her hands held up, as if in defense, shaking her head furiously at the same time. "Okay! And that's where I say I'm done. The minute you mention getting two chicks drunk because you think you can get them to make out, I'm done."

She pushed herself to her feet, leaning on the bar so that the entire room didn't start spinning out of control, then gave him a bit of a smirk as she placed a couple bills down on the counter. "I think I'll go introduce myself to that roommate of mine." Did she have any intentions of doing anything but hitting the sheets? No, but he didn't have to know that.

He chuckled a little at her reaction and instinctively shot a hand out behind her as she wobbled, not that he fully expected her to fall but it would kind of put a damper on the night if she did. "I don't think I can get them to make out, I know I can, there's a difference," he informed her with raised brows and a charming grin.

He slid her bills back across the bar towards her and dug out his wallet to toss a credit card on the bartop. So this hadn't turned out completely horrible, it had actually been kind of nice, minus the little fight in the middle. But she was somehow leaving the night without hating him which seemed like a victory to him. "Trying to make me jealous?" he asked jokingly.

Watching as Dean pushed her money back toward her and placed his credit card down in it's place, Jo smiled and shook her head, almost in protest, though she knew it was no use. Besides, she really wasn't in any position to turn down having her beer paid for. A hundred bucks wasn't going to go far in comparison to a credit card in a fake name.

At his question, she smirked even wider and arched a brow in his direction. So she was just a bit tipsy, and it was helping to loosen her up a little. "Maybe," she replied, shrugging her shoulders lightly. "Is it working?"

"Maybe," he repeated with a shrug before he could even really think the word though. He finished the last of his drink and wondered what the fuck it was he was doing. It was Jo. And he was just some fuck up. She deserved better than him hitting on her, or trying to hit on her.

He motioned for another from the bartender and decided he would let her go "introduce" herself to her roommate and he would sit her, get drunk and maybe take home one of the locals and try to forget about how adorable she looked trying to one up him. He gave her a genuine smile though before she could leave and shifted his empty bottle from hand to hand. "This was... this was good though," he told her, "it was good to see you."

She blinked a few times in slight surprise at his response, finding it a little hard to believe that Dean would even so much as imply a hint of jealousy. But as startling as it was, it was also kind of...nice. It made her feel good, for whatever reason, even if they both knew she wasn't going to be doing any introducing tonight, or any night, if they were going to take the term as something suggestive.

Snapping back to reality, she shook her head a little and chuckled. "Yeah. You too." She paused for a moment, chewing on her bottom lip in thought, before she added, "We should do it again."
