WHO: Rachel and the Weeping Angels
WHAT: Pushing some boundaries, crossing some lines, complete with a light show
WHERE: The park
WHEN: December 31st; Evening
RATING: PG
STATUS: Narrative; COMPLETE
Rogue once said that Rachel could be as nasty and ruthless as Wolverine... but Rogue hadn't known Rachel well or for long. She hadn't really seen what Rachel could do. After what had been happening since Christmas and Rachel's studies of the Weeping Angels, after her best friend's recent bereavement, she meant to demonstrate what Rogue had said.
It was a cold night and she sat on a park bench, seemingly oblivious to the "statue" of an angel in the corner of her vision. She very deliberately turned her head away from it. When she turned her head directly towards it, she smiled.
The Weeping Angel froze with its hand gripping her arm and an almost comically puzzled expression locked on its face.
"Whoops," she said. "It's called a fourth dimensional pulse, part of my mutant power. I wasn't completely sure it'd protect me against you. Apparently, it takes a lot more than a parasitic statue to change my timeline. A cosmic power-- like, for instance, mine. Here, feel it."
The Phoenix aura flared around Rachel, lighting up the park and its surroundings. The stone hand disintegrated and Rachel was freed from its grip. As she lifted herself up from the bench and into the air, she blinked to give the Angel an instant of full consciousness. She caught hold of its mind, and through it, the minds of the other Angels that weren't currently quantum-locked. Not all of them were free in that instant, but enough to make an impact on their numbers.
She took those minds and tore them into ragged shreds scattered across their own timelines. Their bodies, left where they'd stood, she smashed into stone fragments and powder.
Maybe it was nasty and ruthless. Maybe it was just what they deserved. She honestly wasn't sure at that moment which it was as she basked in the cosmic power singing through her.
