Entry tags:audrey parker, duke crocker

WHO: Audrey Parker, Duke Crocker
WHAT: Hiding out from everything going on. Come on, Audrey can't talk her way out of this one, and Duke can't stab things with Nathan's blood.
WHEN: Nowish.
WHERE: Barricaded in their apartment.
RATING: TBD
STATUS: In progress.

It was dark enough outside that Audrey didn't feel comfortable lighting anything more than a single candle. It was just as well, because she was sure that all of those creatures had a way of telling they were in here without needing the light. And okay, so Audrey was sure that the real Audrey Parker had watched Doctor Who when she was little and been scared silly by the Daleks. Truth be told, that fear wasn't completely unfounded. They were terrifying, and there was no reasoning with them. They could also climb stairs. Not the kind of thing you wanted to see when you were running for your life.

The worst part was that Audrey knew if they had an ounce of compassion to them, she could talk them out of this. But that was the thing with emotionless robots and statues; they just wanted what they want. It was like talking to a broken record. Basically, what this all boiled down to was that she assumed they would get them at some point. One hour, there would come the cry of EXTERMINATE or DELETE - or no cry at all, just a cold marble hand on your shoulder and ZAP, you were gone.

Audrey curled her legs beneath her on the couch, her eyes trained on the flickering candle light on the coffee table in front of her. She wasn't sure how long she'd been zoned out or what had even happened during the time, but she suddenly snapped and blinked around the room. She heaved a sigh and pushed to her feet, intending to stretch out and maybe see about getting some air. Something had to give, and maybe when it came, she wouldn't stop fighting it.

"Hey, you wanna go get some air with me? I just... I need to get out of here for a while."

Duke Crocker was not good at fighting, not in fights that were potentially life and death situations. Put him up against any other guy, armed or not, and he would have been more than willing to find some way to deal with the situation whether it was violent or not. But up against things that he didn't understand much less know how to deal with, without Nathan somewhere close by and willing to act as a impromptu blood donor if they got into a tight situation, Duke preferred hiding inside and possibly staying alive.

So when Audrey asked if he wanted to go and get some air with her, there was the briefest of hesitations in him. This place might be a makeshift cage at the moment, but it was a lot safer than even thinking about stepping outside. Still, Duke knew Audrey well enough to know that even if he turned her down, she would go anyway, so he was moving to grab their coats the second after the hesitation passed.

"As long as you promise to stay close," Duke said, pulling on his jacket. "I'm not going to have Nathan murdering me because I failed to keep you from getting killed by something that came out of nowhere." Which didn't really make much sense, but right now, he didn't care if he was making any sense or not. As long as Audrey stayed alive, he'd be happy spouting gibberish.

Audrey's eyebrows darted upward. She'd already run from one set of killer robots. She wasn't keen on running into another set. Maybe it was best if they stayed inside? No. She'd go crazy if she did. She swiped her coat from Duke and slipped an arm in. Audrey gave a harsh laugh at his warning. She had a hard time believing that Nathan was going to do anything at all if something happened to her. Audrey knew that was cruel, and that Nathan cared, but she'd finally come around to her feelings for him only to find herself here, where he was what? Married with children on the way. She wanted to be happy for him, she did, and on some level she was, but goddamnit. Was the universe just out to punish her?

"You're not making any sense. When did THAT become a thing with you?" She moved to blow out the candle, zipping up her coat and drawing in a breath for when they opened the door. She hoped there wasn't a statue on the other side, just waiting for them to blink. "I always remember you being smarter than that. Did you hit your head after coming here?"
