Damian still wasn't quite sure how he was supposed to feel about Helena. When Selena had been turned into another version of herself and the baby had shown up, Damian had been baffled by the thought that in another Universe his father had another biological child and with Selena Kyle. However, during the time that Steph had watched Helena at the mansion while Selena had been a younger version of herself, Damian had spent a little time around the baby who was ultimately his sister. It was strange to think that way, because for his entire life if it had been only him. Sure, there had been Dick and Cass, who, if he was going to give the sibling label to anyone, it would be them. Things with Jason and Tim were still too messed up to think of them like that even if Bruce had adopted them both at different times. He knew that Selena hadn't been expecting anything from him as far as being a brother to Helena, but things were different now. If anything, Damian had come to realize that they had more in common than he'd originally thought. Neither of them really knew their father. The only person they had to rely on was their mothers; at least Damian had, until Talia had decided to just drop him on Bruce and then tried to replace him.

It was because Helena was really his only family, that he had agreed to come by. Sure, there was Babs and Steph, who were like family, but things were still a little off between him and Steph, even if she was talking to him again and he could only hope that in time, their friendship could go back to the way it had been before they'd dated. So, having agreed to stop by Selena's to see Helena, Damian headed out, domino mask in his pocket, which felt a little weird, but Helena apparently liked it, so he'd wear it for her. Reaching Selena's apartment, Damian went up to her floor and knocked on the door.

Ever since Selina had woken up in the community housing to find Helena with her, she'd only left Helena alone to sleep. Giving up Helena had been the most painful decision she'd ever had to make, but she'd known she had to do it. How many children got abducted as many times as Helena had been? She had already seen with her sister and Black Mask what horrors someone would commit against her loved ones to get at her, and as Thomas Elliot had proven by taking out her heart... Selina had to do it. She sometimes thought it was stupid for her, of all people, to have had a baby at all. She'd never wanted one before. Being turned into her younger, incredibly selfish self was very much a reminder of that. If Steph hadn't volunteered to take on Helena (and Damian had hinted at it as well), young Selina probably would've just found a place to dump the brat who was a stranger to her. When Selina was here in Colligo and had ended up with Helena, her emotions had been very confused towards the baby she hadn't actually given birth to yet. And now? Helena was hers again. She just had to figure out how the hell to handle it.

After Bruce arranged for Helena's adoption, she spent a lot of time wondering what Bruce really thought of her choices. He'd been surprisingly wonderful with Helena-- a baby seat in the Batmobile, of all things-- but she'd never told him everything.

Helena's was just developing her vocabulary, of course. Still, she was good at communicating what she liked and wanted. When Helena kept asking to see Damian, how could Selina tell her "no"? Especially since she was forced with all the monsters to keep Helena indoors. Just like her parents, Helena loved to be outside under the night sky-- but Selina had to keep her safe. Damian, on the other hand, was very much capable of staying safe out there.

Hearing the knock on the door, Selina wasn't just going to throw it open, even if there weren't monsters roaming around. She made sure to check out the peephole first and see that it was Damian and only Damian (no monsters in tow, thanks). With Helena held on her hip, she opened the door.

"Hey, thanks for coming here," Selina said. "I'd go out there myself, but there's now way I'm risking Helena with those crazies."

Helena got to the point and stuck out her 'hold me' hands. "DAMEY!"

"It's no problem, Selena. I totally understand." When Helena held her arms out towards him, Damian hesitantly reached out for her, but he didn't move too close, basically waiting for Selena to hand her over. Of course, it was probably obvious to Selena that he wasn't exactly used to holding a baby. Despite the fact that Damian had been around quite a few babies and kids over the last nine years, all of which hadn't even been born yet at this point, he hadn't actually gone out of his way to hold any of them. Steph had done the majority of watching Helena, while Damian had checked on her occasionally, but hadn't really done more than look at her. "When I leave here, I'll probably patrol a few of the areas where vampires and zombies have been reported. I fought a bunch of zombies during the invasion earlier this year with Steph, so these guys shouldn't be too difficult to take out."

After how much Helena had made clear she wanted to see Damian, Selina was surprised that he didn't seem very comfortable about her. Helena must've decided to latch onto him even if he wasn't sure how to handle her yet. Selina wasn't going to indulge Damian's hesitance; if Helena wanted him to hold her and he didn't screw it up, Selina was going to make him hold Helena. She put Helena in Damian's arms, and Helena instinctively held onto him.

"Glad I missed that one. Didn't she have some kind of weird multiple Draculas battle with Supergirl?... And that sounds like a 'you know you're from Gotham when...'"

Damian took Helena as Selena handed her off and it took him a moment or two to adjust his arms so that he had her secure and wasn't afraid that he'd drop her. He was looking at her, looking for features that they might share now that he was much closer to the baby than he'd been while she'd been at the Mansion so he only caught bits and pieces of what the other woman was saying to him, "Huh? Oh, yeah. I heard about that." Damian had also had his share of adventures with Supergirl, but that had been back home and he'd been a little ass back then, so he was sure that she had much preferred to fight Draculas with Steph then wind up at a costume party with Damian. Granted, Damian had preferred that costume party to Halloween 2011 when his ten year old self had wound up killing a bunch of people.

At the next thing she said, Damian couldn't help but laugh a bit, "It definitely does." He shrugged, "But it could also be a 'you know you live in Colligo when...' thing."

	Helena was childishly puzzled at why Damian was looking at her that way, then she giggled and grabbed at his face. Nothing painful, just awkward. "Yeah, that's VERY true," Selina said. "Who would've thought anywhere could get weirder?" (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Damian made a face and tipped his head back as Helena grabbed for his face. He wasn't used to this type of behavior and hadn't actually expected it, so Helena was able to grab his nose briefly. Sure, he was used to people throwing punches at his face and shooting at him, but small baby hands coming at his face was something entirely new. "Nine years ago I wouldn't have thought any place could get weirder, but then I found myself here." Worried that he might drop Helena if she grabbed at him again, Damian decided to take a seat on the couch, "So, how has your time here been?" Making small talk with Selena Kyle, of all people, was not something that Damian had ever actually envisioned himself doing. Of course they'd talked on the Network before, but this was entirely different. This was awkward.

Helena giggled as she caught Damian's nose, then tried to reach again when Damian pulled away. When he sat them down, she took the chance to glomp on more. Selina sat down next to them and shrugged. "I spent most of my time here hating it." And that was true. Damian wasn't exactly someone Selina wanted to confide in, though. With Helena wanting him around, it'd be hard not to let him know at least a few things. "But then I got her back, so... not completely bad after all."
