WHO: Loki Laufeyson (ickle!) & River Song
WHAT: Loki is out exploring, like you do, and happens across a rather fascinating individual.
WHEN: September 26th; Evening
WHERE: The Colligo Streets
RATING: PG
STATUS: In Progress

Loki knew that if he was caught, he was going to be in quite a bit of trouble. You didn't just wander off without telling anyone where you were going and how long you were going to be gone so that they knew, should you not return by that time, that something had likely happened. But this was hardly Asgard and the surrounding lands. There were no trolls or hounds or dragons here to beset upon him. The only thing here were humans, fragile, tiny little humans who he could likely outwit if he couldn't outmaneuver them. Granted, there were a number of these humans who didn't seem quite as fragile as they may have been normally. Midgard, and its population, had seemingly aged and advanced in a matter of moments in Loki's eyes, and while that might have put him at risk should he come across anything he not know how to deal with, his utter fascination and curiosity with everything well trumped any danger he might face.

Beside, he had brought the tiny communications device with him. Should anything go wrong, he only needed to call for help.

Slipping down an alleyway, happy to use the darkness to conceal him against the small crowds milling about that didn't look quite so friendly, Loki turned onto a much more populated street that buzzed with lights and sounds, people flocking in every different directions, with shop doors opened to the night air and loud music -- Possibly? None of it was a sound Loki was familiar with. -- filtering out into the crowd from a few of the places.

Unfortunately, the one drawback about this place was that you needed some sort of currency to manage, and without asking for permission before leaving, he had no means to access some. Of course, that wasn't so much an issue with this many people about. Deft fingers were good for more than just slight of hand, after all, and one quick pass by a rather oblivious man preoccupied with trying to attract the attentions of one rather seriously uninterested woman, Loki was no longer bereft of funds.

In retrospect, maybe going out hadn't been the best of ideas. Sure, she had both wanted, and needed, some time off on her own. And sure, the city certainly had more to offer than what a casual glance might reveal to an average person who didn't know where to really look. But the idea of being cornered by a man - a local, no less - who was bound and determined to get her attention no matter what the cost to his personal pride? Well, that wasn't something that sat very well with her. To put it mildly, it was positively, unbelievably, dreadfully boring and River had just about had enough of it.

That is, until a small boy came along and managed to shake things up.

Suddenly turning to the oblivious local, River remarked simply, "You do realize you've been pickpocketed, yes?" The man, for his part, went completely still, his grin faltering in place before fading entirely as he patted down his pockets and realized that she was, in fact, telling the truth. Immediately his face clouded over, his expression darkening as he began to scan the crowd for whoever was responsible before turning back to River with a positively livid expression.

Of course, before he could go about doing something as utterly insane as blaming her for his suddenly missing money, she was already laughing lightly and reaching out to pat him on the cheek. "Oh, you poor, daft boy. The girl went that way." She tilted her head in the exact opposite direction where the actual guilty party happened to be, tacking on a fake, yet still helpful sounding, "Tiny thing, not quite to my chin, wearing a dark dress and light flats. Can't miss her, if you hurry."

The man immediately took off and River, seeing no reason to waste time lest he realized he'd been duped a second time and return, immediately turned and closed the distance between herself and the small boy responsible for the entire ordeal. Raising her voice just loud enough for him to hear her - as she was all but positive he had, if the fact that he hadn't quite disappeared into the crowd just yet was any indication, at least - she called out with a grin that made it clear she wasn't even close to upset, "Right then. I wager we've a few minutes before he realises what's what. Might as well make the most of it, I say. Now, be a good boy and do tell. How much is it you managed to get off the old windbag?"

Loki had already ditched the wallet in a bin that he'd passed, having snaked the values -- cash, a few cards that he presumed had some sort of merit, and a number of 'free food' coupons that had either been neglected or were being hoarded -- out already, under the presumption that he might be stopped should anyone have noticed his little act. Singular items were easier to hide, after all, than one large folio. But the question that was leveled at him was not one that he expected. In fact, it was one that made him turn his attention fully towards the voice rather than try to create some distraction and disappear into the crowd.

After all, most people judged an act like petty theft. If anything, this seemed more like she was asking for a cut.

"Couple hundred, if the numbers are anything to go by," Loki said as he grinned up at her, pulling the thick fold of bills out from where he'd tucked it into the shoulder of his shirt just enough for her to get a glimpse at it. "I am unsure exactly how much is customary to carry, but it should maintain me through the evening," He said with a hint of amusement in his voice before holding his gaze on her with a hint of curiosity before producing the two cards from the front folds of his shirt.

"What are these?" Because his mind had absolutely no concept of how such an item could be used much less why someone would need two so similar items. Beyond their color, there was little about the items that varied as far as Loki could tell. "They must be important. Why else would they be carried?"
