WHO: Joanna McCoy and Sam Kirk
WHAT: Drinking. Chatting. Flirting.
WHEN: {Backdated} Right after this.
WHERE: A local bar.
RATING: TBD
STATUS: In Progress

She took her sweet time getting to the bar. The urge to drink was a strong one, the urge to forget about all of the insanity swirling around her in this new location even stronger, but she'd promised Sam that she'd let him get there first. Plus he said he'd pay. And while she was pretty sure he wouldn't mind if she actually did arrive first, Joanna wasn't about to go meet someone for drinks without making herself look halfway presentable.

So it was only after a quick shower and change of clothes that she made her way to the bar. Stepping inside, her bright blue eyes scanned the room in search of her 'date' for the evening. She cringed a bit at the term inside her head. Joanna hadn't had a date in a very long time and the last few hadn't ended all that well. Then again, this wasn't really a date. At least, she didn't think so. It was just two people drinking away their worries together.

Joanna knew that drowning her troubles never worked but that still didn't stop her from trying every once in a while. As her gaze finally landed on Sam Kirk she felt her lips curl into a smile and decided, making her way toward him, if this did turn out to be a date and she was just so far behind in the times she hadn't realized it, at least it was a date with someone who definitely wasn't hard on the eyes.

"Alright, I held up my end of the deal," she said by way of greeting. "You're here first. Now it's time to see if you can belly up to the bar." Her tone was easy-going, friendly, and more than just a touch Southern. Her grin, however, was anything but what was becoming of a true Southern Belle.

Sam really hadn't rushed to the bar. However, there might have been a slight quickening of his pace, his feet carrying him faster than usual. Because he needed this. Really, he needed this after seeing his .. older little brother. Truth was, he'd been needing this from the moment he showed up to this place but he'd been pacing himself. Finding himself with a hangover and drooling on the sidewalk wasn't what he called fun times. At twenty-eight wasn't how he wanted to relive nineteen, either. Not with everything going on and not ever.

Also, Sam was one to keep his word. He'd stated conditions and he would keep them, although truth be told he wouldn't have minded if Jo had appeared first. He would have paid either way. That was just the kind of guy he was. And maybe ... maybe there was a tiny part of him-the part that had this ridiculous crush that wasn't fit for a man his age who shouldn't be having crushes-wanted to see her walk into the room. He was started to see her less and less as the little girl he'd first met over the boards. Which was good. And he was pretty sure when he turned back, he could get over it. After all, Sam had gotten over worse. And it was just a .. it was silly.

And this was a carefree, good time and Sam intended to keep it that way. Which meant he couldn't get too drunk less he said something real stupid.

"I'm a man of honor" He put his hand over his heart, with a grin of his own. "Feel free to blow through my paychecks. And put me in some kind of debt." He said easily.

"You're on," Joanna remarked as she took a seat across from him. He'd gotten a table that was out of the way but not stuffed off in a corner. Good. Joanna didn't necessarily want to be the center of attention but she also didn't want to appear like she was trying to hide from a good time either. Because that's all this was. A good time between two people who while not necessarily friends quite yet, definitely had a few things they could drink over together.

"So what's our poison for tonight?" she asked once she'd settled into the chair. "Are you in a beer drinking mood or do you want to try a hand at the strong stuff." She paused, shaking her head and admitting, "Or as strong as they carry in this place. Something tells me they're fresh out of the stuff that'll knock your socks clean off."

Brushing a lock of hair from her shoulder, she glanced at the display of bottles at the bar before looking back to Sam with an inquisitive eyebrow arch and mischievous grin.

Strong stuff. Sam was very tempted to say. He wasn't a lightweight and he could handle things that could and would knock him into next week, but he reminded himself of what he didn't want up end up being. Drooling. So instead he said, "I wouldn't mind mulling over a good beer for starts."

Damn. She was ... Sam forced his mind back on track. "They are. And they make a habit of it. I remember when I first showed up here, wanted something that could make paint peel ... then cry, sadly, or maybe luckily, they didn't have anything that good. But the service is nice and the glasses are clean. So, I'm not about to complain. Much."

Joanna gave a nod of her head. She had no real preference one way or the other as to what they drank. She just wanted to forget about the insanity currently taking place and enjoy herself for a few hours. "Two beers. Whatever sells," she stated to the waitress that approached. The woman eyed each of them for a second, apparently determined they were old enough to actually drink, and walked away with a simple nod of her head.

While waiting for their order to be filled, Joanna looked back to Sam with a smile upon her face. "Ain't no sense in complainin'," she said simply. "It won't change a thing anyway." Not that she didn't also complain from time to time but still, it sounded good to say and was a decent enough thing to try and put into practice.

"Besides, it could be worse," she pointed out. "We could have our family members randomly turning various ages and, oh, wait... nevermind." She was grinning once again by that point, eyes sparkling and teeth showing at her own slightly teasing joke.

"No," Sam's mouth twitch, "but blowing steam verbally sometimes has it's uses. Like making you feel better. Even for a moment. And maybe even keeping these good folks from one less client." Though Sam could admit to himself, that while getting it out of there system might keep a lot of people from finding comfort in a bottle of beer, he himself tended to need a little help. Sometimes a good beer could go a long way.

He gave a low appreciative chuckle. "If anyone deserves to complain and deserves beer it's us. Man, I could handle Jim as a teenager." He was a little ass but he really could. His brain could work around that. It was just the having Jim older than their own father, much older. It was just weird. He didn't think on the fact that he was a few years older than Winona, his mother. Because a few years, as strange as that was, wasn't decades off. Shaking his head, at the entire strangeness of it all, Sam let out a sigh. "At least we know he gets to live to a ... healthy, old age. Very old." His mouth quirked up again, teasing. He might have been mistaken but his .. err, younger brother seemed to have a fondness plentiful, filling food from what he could tell from the picture provided.
