Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Logan and Bruce Banner
What: Sitting down to have a little talk
Where: A bar in Colligo
When: September 20th, 8 0'Clock
Rating: Likely R for language
Notes:

Logan sat at an empty table in the middle of the room, an unlit, half smoked, cigar, sitting on in front of him. He stared at it with a sense of longing, before his eyes shifted back to the door. Ever since losing his powers, he'd found himself to be far more irritable when he wasn't smoking and he was debating stepping out for the fifth time to puff on it some. Why? Because he honestly had no intention of losing his cool when sitting down at a table with Bruce Banner to discuss his relationship with one of the many youths he'd taken a shine to in his time. Logan hardly relished that thought, even when he was rather indestructible. Now? Now he didn't even want to think about it.

Regardless of the facts however, he knew that this had to happen. He knew he'd never live with himself if he didn't and, even if it got him killed, he wanted to make sure him and Banner took the chance to talk it out, face to face. He respected the guy after all, more so than he did most people if the truth was to be told, and if he made Kitty happy? That was, well, that was honestly enough for the Canadian. He just felt the, very serious, need to sit down and set the record straight. If he ever hurt Kitty, his over-active conscience would be the absolute least of his worries and, even without powers, Logan was more than ready to sit down and go as many rounds as it took to beat the Other Guy into submission.

Part of him knew, or at least hoped, it would never come to that. He'd done battle with the Hulk before, and it was one of the many memories he honestly could have done without having in his head. More than that, however, he honestly didn't want a situation like that coming between him and the young brunette. Life at the mansion had never been easy and to say the girl's heart had taken a few knocks, well, that would have been an understatement. If he had any say in it, at all, it wouldn't happen to her again.

That was really all he wanted Banner to know. The Hulk? Logan just hoped it never came to that.

Bruce knew that this was probably a very bad idea. In fact, it wasn't probably a very bad idea, it was, without question, a positively idiotic idea. Meeting up with anyone who all but demanded the chat in the first place was dangerous enough. The other guy didn't like being bossed around and, to be honest, Bruce wasn't very keen on it himself. So to meet up with someone who had anger issues of their own, and who had every reason to be overly protective and concerned toward someone who Bruce - and the other guy, even - cared a great deal for? Yeah. On a scale of one to ten, with one being his naive attempts to run away from his problems to third world countries, and ten being his decision to muck about with his own genetic structure, this was easily a seven, if not an eight. And, depending on how the night turned out, could easily make it's way to a twelve or so. Because as understanding as Kitty was about his temper, and as hurt as she'd been by Logan, Bruce was pretty sure if he actually killed the guy, she might be a little upset with him.

Of course, Bruce wasn't going into this meeting with any intention of picking a fight, or even really defending himself if he managed to get into one. Then again, Bruce's intentions were always pretty well and good... until the other guy jumped into the fray. And for reasons the scientist wasn't sure he even wanted to know, his alter ego was not a fan of Logan.

Still. That wasn't going to stop him from having this little requested powwow. Logan cared for Kitty, that much was obvious, so Bruce figured he deserved his chance to speak his mind and be done with it. It almost felt a bit like going to meet the parents, in a way, which made Bruce uncomfortable on a completely different level entirely, but he quickly pushed that thought aside and focused on what was actually taking place. He was going into a little, local-run bar, to meet with a man who clearly was not his biggest fan, to discuss his now public relationship with a young woman the aforementioned fan was extremely protective toward.

Yeah. In no way could this blow up spectacularly.

With that last, sarcastic thought rambling about inside his mind, Bruce exhaled slowly and stepped inside the bar. It was easy to spot Logan and he wasted no time in making his way over to the man, Bruce's expression carefully neutral as he paused at the table and peered down at him.

"Right, so, I'm here. And we aren't friends, which means pointless pleasantries is out. Which means I just have one question." Slowly he arched an eyebrow before asking simply, with just the slightest sardonic drawl to his words, "Should I have a seat or are we taking this straight outside?"

Logan jammed the cigar back into his mouth the moment Bruce walked through the door. He had no intention of lighting it, but it was something to clamp his teeth down on, a focal point for any and all of his tension, and, with a little bit of luck, just enough to keep this discussion from escalating into a conflict. He really didn't need that and, he suspected, neither did Banner. After all, if they got in a fight, this whole thing would have been pointless. Kitty would have been pissed at them both, and Logan, believe it or not, had his fill of people being pissed at him for the time being.

When banner hit him with the question, his first response was to smirk. "Heh. You've changed Bub - have a seat." He replied to the question gruffly. "Jus' 'cause you and me ain't the best of pals, don't mean we can be civil. An I got no intention of takin' this outside." He spoke honestly. The last thing he wanted was there to be hostility, after all, he was here for Kitty and that turned up the importance of civility to a pretty serious level. Besides, he had no problem with Banner, in fact, Kitty's relationship with him actually made him look more favorably on the guy. Hulk, on the other hand, was a pretty substantial point of contention for him. Logan rolled the cigar between his teeth before pulling it out once Bruce had sat down.

Once he was seated, Logan's eyes locked onto him and remained unflinching. Even without his powers, even without unbreakable bones or a healing factor, he wasn't about to be intimidated by the possibility of going toe to toe with Banner. He didn't want to, but James Howlett was not a man who ever showed fear, or at least not for himself. He stared at Banner, his eyes studying him for a long moment, before he leaned back into his chair.

"First thing's first." Logan began, rather flatly. "You, an I don't care which you it is, hurt her, and I don't care in which way that is, or how you hurt her, an you and me? We're gonna have a problem. A big one. The kind you and me don't want." That was the underlined fact, the one he knew he needed to put on the table first. "And that ain't a threat." He explained, opting to at least try and avoid a path that would lead to violence, for Kitty's sake. "I ain't askin' you to understand, or defend yourself, 'cause she says you ain't gonna, an I like to think you're not that..type." He'd genuinely thought about saying 'Dumb', but he was choosing his words very carefully. "I'm just tellin' you, that's how it's gonna be, and you and me? I think we've done that enough."

Logan flexed his jaw, popping the cigar back into it. He honestly wanted Kitty to be happy and, barring there being any problems, he couldn't deny that Bruce was a damn good protector. Sure, The Other Guy? Probably not. Logan had seen that raw, unfocused, power. He'd been on the receiving end of those fists, he knew that trying to focus that power was probably damn near impossible - and he was mighty impressed that several people had given him praise on his ability to control it at all.

"Next thing. You're gonna tell me why it is you're with her, and you're gonna be real clear about it." It probably was a lot like dealing with a parent, but, well, Logan was much older than either of them, and Kitty had wormed her way into a place he was fiercely protective of. He cleared his throat. "'Cause I ain't got no problem with it, but I wanna make good and damn sure that you got good intentions, and that you ain't gonna do nothin' to hurt her. She's been through enough." Or, at least, she had where he was from.

For a moment after Logan finished speaking, Bruce didn't respond. It wasn't because he wasn't sure what to say. He was pretty sure he could just start speaking about Kitty in general and it would be obvious to anyone that he most definitely was not with her for any reason other than he absolutely and positively adored her. No, he stayed quiet because he was trying not to say something. He was fighting with his own temper, allowing a moment or two to pass so he didn't snap out what he wanted to say. And finally, as thirty seconds ticked by into nearly a minute, he cleared his throat, calmly folded his hands together on the table, and pinned Logan with a faintly bemused expression.

"Let me be clear," he said first and foremost. "When I say we aren't friends, that's exactly what I mean. I can count on one hand the number of people I can trust, and respect, and so far, you haven't made either of those lists. In fact, the only reason I'm here right now is out of respect for Kitty, because for reasons I don't understand, she does care about you. Which means I have to deal with you, in some way, because I'm not going anywhere." He arched an eyebrow but continued, not looking away, not backing down, but also not acting aggressive in any way, shape, or form either. There was a time for anger, even for rage. There was a time to unleash the other guy, and a time to let his own temper show.

This was none of those times.

"Secondly, as far as I'm concerned, we already have a problem. You made her cry. And, once again, the only reason we aren't having a very large problem right now, is out of respect for Kitty. That's it." His eyebrow arched even higher and a hardness shone in his eyes as Bruce added flatly, "But make no mistake. I won't forget what you said, or did, to her. And neither will the other guy."

Unfolding his hands, Bruce calmly pulled his PDA from his pocket and turned it off just as it began buzzing loudly that he had a message. He'd look at it later. For now, he wasn't willing to turn his focus away from Logan. Because the other mutant was right on one thing. They did need to have this talk. So once he'd shut off the device, he set it on the table in front of him and continued without missing a beat.

"As for me telling you why I'm with her, that's none of your business. I'm with Kitty because I want to be with Kitty. She's with me because she wants to be with me. She's a grown woman, capable of making her own decisions, and the last I checked I could make my own as well too. And if you don't like that?" He shrugged ever so slightly. "I guess that's your problem. Because I don't respond well to orders, and I'm not about to start taking yours just because you think you might know what I'm capable of doing based on experiences you've had with another version of me from your own reality."

Pausing as a waitress approached, Bruce turned to her with a small, pleasant smile, all unspoken, barely controlled anger and indignation gone from sight. "I'll just have a seltzer water with lime, thanks," he said before she could even ask what he wanted. Then he looked back to Logan, just as calm and collected as he'd maintained an appearance of being for the entire conversation.

So far.

Logan sat forward in his chair. The conversation had already taken a turn he hadn't expected, but something didn't seem quite right. Banner was talking to him like the two were almost strangers, a fact that simply wasn't true where he'd come from, and he couldn't even begin to fathom that. Still, he kept his mouth shut while banner spoke and, with a bit of luck, seemed to add a bit of clarity to that confusion.

Okay, so this place had different people from different worlds. That fact wasn't as hard to swallow as it might have been for others. It explained why Xavier wasn't already picking around inside his head and why Gambit had decided to take a bullet for him. It also explained Mystique and, he wagered, Magneto to a certain degree. Hell, it even explained Rogers and Stark. They probably weren't even from where he was from. That raised all kinds of questions.

"So we ain't friends." He restated the fact that Banner had made with a kind of firmness that indicated he'd play it however the guy wanted. If he didn't want to be friends? Logan wasn't exactly the type of guy to push it. "But if you're tellin' me you're gonna have a problem with anyone who makes that girl cry?" He sat back in his chair. "You might wanna take a second to think about that. She ain't a kid and she don't need you fightin' for her no more than she does me - and she wouldn't like it if you an I decided to fight again." He underlined the word to draw to a point that, where he was from, it had happened.

"But I don't know where you get off sayin' I did anything to that girl 'cept the same damn thing you're doin' right now - lookin' out for her - so why not come down off your high horse? I've seen what happens where I'm from to people who trust you. I've seen you rip me in half.." Logan didn't really give two fucks who overheard him. "An if you're gonna go tellin' me that's a problem for you? Well." He smiled, rather smugly. "I think you're being a damned hypocrite."

When Banner ordered a water, Logan stood up from the table. "I asked you down here to be a bit more civil, and not play a game of point the finger. You wanna be with Kitty?" Logan looked down at the man with a serious fire in her eyes. "I ain't got no problem with it. She seems to have taken a shine to you, an I'm all for that. You hurt that girl though?" His tone of voice never rose above a calm beat as he looked Banner right in the eye.

"I'll find a way to break your arms." Even if she wasn't the same Kitty, she was Kitty. Even if this Banner wasn't the same, which he clearly wasn't, Logan would have done his best to take him down a peg.
