Who: Gambit and OPEN
What: Gambit's arrival in the library
Where: The Library and surrounding street
When: Aug. 23rd, early afternoon
Rating: TBD - Anywhere from PG - R, likely for language
Notes: Remy's current AU (I have several in mind for him) is that he did not kill Julien, refusing to do so, and willingly left the guilds behind. Subsequently, he never met Storm, and was never made a member of the X-Men.

"Uggh.. The sorry groan passed from his lips as fingertips began to twitch against the cool floor of the library. Slowly, as Gambit found his strength, he pushed himself up to his hands and knees before finally coming to rest in a sitting position. "Gambit n'ont pas beaucoup à boire?.." He asked himself, resting a hand on his brow to try and steady himself. It was then that his eyes seemed to take notice of the suits of armor that advanced upon him.

"Well ha-llo d'ere." He quipped, giving his wrist a forward flip to draw the telescopic bo staff into his palm. When the suits did not respond, but rather continued to advance on him, he snapped the staff to it's full length in a single motion before spinning it over the backside of his hand. "Can't say dis' be da' best reception Ol' Gambit's e'er had, but I do believe d'ere has been worse.." Suits of armor weren't anything he was terribly concerned over. They were tin cans, even if they didn't have people inside and nothing a well placed, well charged, card couldn't handle.

Which is exactly what he tossed their way.

The subsequent explosion filled the room with an echoing boom and a choking cloud of smoke. Gambit shifted his weight, pulling the armored jacket's collar around his face as he turned away, hoping to shield himself from any shrapnel and debris that he was sure would be coming his way. He waited a couple seconds, his brows arching in confusion. Those should have been smoldering bits of steel, and they weren't.

That didn't bode well for him and, after a quick assessment of the situation, Gambit realized he was at a marked disadvantage. There was nowhere to go, save the large doors behind him, and those didn't show any signs of moving. Remy spun his staff, holding it out in a way that would interpose it between them and himself.

"Now now gents, Gambit do love a party jus' as much as da' next guy, but he don't rightly be thinkin' you two are dressed to have very much fun - so, if'n it be all da' same to you, he's gonna have to pass on dis here shindig you 'ave planned, ya? It be nothin' personal o'course.." As he spoke he was slowly back pedaling toward the door, and took comfort that the suits neither seemed to regard him as much of anything. They simply followed him as he backed to the doors, which he was relieved to find opened no sooner than he had placed the flat of his foot against them, and once he was standing outside they simply dropped the small device on the stairs at his feet..

..and then it was over.

"Huh." He mused in a confused tone, collapsing the staff and tucking it into his sleeve in a single motion, before dropping to his haunches to collect and peer at the device.

"Now. What do we 'ave 'ere?"

"It's a phone...or something like it. And honestly, if I was going to be kidnapped and given no real explanation, they could have least given me the new iPhone, not this thing." Came the voice from the redheaded teenage girl on the steps next to him.

Lydia Martin was not having a good day. After being told that her ex or whatever he was now boyfriend was a lizard thing, and that werewolves were real, watching Jackson die in her arms and then coming back as a werewolf, finding out her best friend was some kind of werewolf hunter, and Beacon Hills High had an insane population of werewolves, being kidnapped was definitely not what Lydia wanted on top of all that.

And according to what she'd been told, she wasn't even on Earth anymore, but on another planet called Colligo.

Sure, she could move and find out more about where she was...but Lydia didn't really feel like doing that at the moment. No, she was going to pout and sulk for a few more minutes, then find the apartment where she was supposed to be living.

His posture tensed for a moment and his red eyes narrowing as, in a fraction of a second, he assessed the sound of the voice.

"Gambit sees dis'." He quipped, relaxing the grip of his palm to keep the cards from touching the tips of his exposed fingers. He flipped the phone up in the air, seemingly paying it no mind as he turned on his heels to face the sound of the voice. If there were still giant suits of metal in the library, well, the brown haired, red eyed, man in front of her didn't seem to care in the slightest.

"What seems to be da' trouble, hm petit?" His thick accent rolled of the tongue like a warm blanket of summer warmth. It was the kind of accent that had a smell, like sweet tea and fancy cigarettes, with an aftertaste of fancy bourbon, and just a slight dash of mint and honey. It seemed to follow him as a pair of confident steps took him in her direction, sat him down on the steps, and slid a hand out forward into the air -- why was he holding a hand out in the air?

To catch the phone as it fell back to Earth, why else?

As the phone fell into the upturned sleeve of his coat, Gambit turned his expression over to the girl. While he might have been known as a universal charmer, that did no make up the entirety of who he was at all. He was in a strange place, that much was clear, there were certain truths that remained absolute. One was that it never paid to make enemies when you were lost. Two. Being nice always always had a way of repaying itself, even if it didn't look like it. Three. You always needed to cover your own ass, and finally, Four: There were few better allies one could have than a pretty face. It was, after all, one of the Cajun's better assets.

"It's been a long time since Gambit's been seein' a face so long it looked like someone done tied a gator to it - an if he didn't know no better, he'd be thinkin' this be a right awful day for you." While he might have only been a thief, he understood that the world was not a terribly forgiving place. After all, he came from a world where two groups fought constantly for control, never seeming to care about who got caught in the middle. Sometimes it was just a little thing he gave himself, if only because it helped him sleep at night.

"Some no good, Bon Rien, done gone and taken a piece of you?" He asked the rather forward question seriously. With most girls who looked her age, when they sat on steps making sarcastic comments about strangers and being kidnapped - wait, kidnapped? Gambit suddenly found himself a lot less concerned with the reality of the boy troubles he imagined for her, and a lot more perplexed about the kidnapping. Sure, kidnapping him made sense, he was the tipping point in a constant battle between the two guilds, but why here and why were they in the same place?

He decided to take it all one thing at a time. Gambit folded his arms over his knees and sat next to her like it was the most perfect and normal thing in the world. "This the first time you gone upstream to somewhere you dun know?" The expressions and colloquialisms were abound in everything about him. It was like he sweated the smell of Etoufee, Mardi Gras, and Po-Boy sandwiches - and the climate was too damn cold to be anywhere but north.

"Don't you worry yourself a grey. You've had yourself a stroke of good luck. S'not every day a kidnapped girl gets her own bone fide southern gentlemen to show up an keep an eye on her, non?" He flipped his hand out to her a single, plain, playing card tucked between his index and middle finger. The suit was blank, but on it was a man in a long coat, standing in front of a table full of cards. Where the word 'Joker' should have been, there was instead a single word 'Gambit'.

"Dis be mah card, and who be you, aside from a young thing stuck out here on account of some bad hoodoo? Hm?"

A lot of people assumed he didn't care and he never bothered to correct them, but that didn't make them right.

Outside the library, oblivious to the sounds that fill the streets, Emma sits hunched near a signpost, almost glaring at the small PDA in her hand. It is mildly confusing to her as she scrolls the screen, bringing the device closer to her face, eyes squinting in an attempt to discern something on the screen. Sighing in frustration, she glances around at the general passerby before fixating on the device again, her sleek black cello case forgotten at her feet.

As she reads, a hand idly tucks a strand of hair behind her ear only to have it fall free moments later. With an exasperated sigh, she lets the PDA drop into her lap. It beeps seconds later, and she snatches it up, face lighting up with hope as she frantically types a response and begins to look around. Her excitement quickly dashes when she very clearly doesn't find what she's looking for. She types another response or two before setting the device down and taking a few moments to gather herself. Leaning against the post, she just observes. The people, the buildings, the lights, everything. That is, until the doors of the Library open. Her head snaps over, directly to Remy as he comes out, clearly curious.

Another arrival. Is it someone I know?

Kristina was walking down the dark alley looking for a fix when she heard the library door open. Looking over she spotted the two people sitting on the steps talking, she tried to figure out if they were new or if they knew each other. Unable to hear what they were speaking she became frustrated but it was obvious they weren't familiar with each other. Stepping back into the darkness she scanned the road and spotted the other hidden girl, tiling her head she wondered what she was doing. It was unlike Kristina to be interested in other peoples affairs, it was like her to be wondering the streets in the dark.

With a dark sigh Kristina gave way to Bree her alternate personality which she used for confidence. Holding her head high she stepped out from the darkness and walked up to the steps. Stopping just short of them she spoke her voice held an indifferent tone but was filled with seduction. "Hello, and welcome to Colligo. You have been selected as part of a collection by Asaph. He picks out people with certain skills and makes us live together. While we are trying to adjust he puts us threw tests and watches how we react to different situations." Licking her lip she was sure that they were now more confused than before.

With one small wave she turned to the girl hidden in the dark inviting her to come join in on the fun. "My name is Kristina but most people call me Bree..." Looking down her cheeks flushed as she got back in control of her thoughts and actions. She was nervous approaching people like that but at least she had been around to invite people into this hectic planet.

[[ OOC: Okay. So everyone knows now too. I'm going to post Gambit's Reply to both Emma and Bree in this one, since Gambit's just kinda surprised - and then I'd like all four of us to work into one thread. I'm very excited to write with all of you, and that seems the easiest way to get us all together on one page. ]]

"Well would'choo look at dat?" He crooned on the end of a bit of a whistle. "If Gambit didn't know no better, he'd be thinkin' whoever done scooped him up, was tryin' to build him a proper welcome." He jerked a thumb over his shoulder. "Suits of ah'mor, strange city, sad faces, beautiful women, and a musician in the group even." His red eyes rolled skyward before he bent forward to examine the other two women.

"Is dis' ah test? 'Cause if dis be a test, and it be how all da tests ah're gonna go? Gambit don be thinkin' he got a whole lot to be worryin' over."

Sure, it was a little disconcerting to know that someone named Asaph was out there, with the power to pluck him out of his universe and drop him in the middle of a strange...city, but there were worse things. His only, real, complaint at the moment was the smell. The place smelled like a city; a gross, disgusting, northern, city. It didn't have the smell of swamps and sou food, or the smell of strong drinks, or the sound of slow jazz drifting through a Naw'lhins fog. In short, it was really not right at all.

Gambit though? He honestly didn't even seem the least bit phased, like the whole thing was perfectly normal. A lot of things got easier to believe when you considered he was used to a network of sewer tunnels that housed a secret network of thieves, underneath the streets of one of the biggest and most popular cities in the country - that just so happened to be at seal level no less - and nobody really knew a whole lot about it. That fact, along with his powers and life, made swallowing things really very easy.

He flipped another two cards, identical to the first, out of his palm and extended them out in the two women's direction. He'd even, rather deftly, toss them at their feet (uncharged of course!) if they didn't want to get up and get them.

"You can call me Gambit." He gave a tip of his head in polite greeting to the both of them. "An there be a guess 'ere dat maybe you be a new one to tha' bunch?" He asked, turning his attention to Lydia again. "Well, at least the people seem friendly enough, non? Even if the city don't smell right, it 'could be a 'hole lot worse, oui?"

He was just trying to draw a silver lining, make himself seem like the good guy, and try and get his bearings.

So far? This place seemed like a piece of cake.

Kristina looked up at him from beneath dark lashes as he spoke. A soft giggle emerging from between her lips as she reached out to take the card. Bree was still in control and made sure to let her fingers run softly over his as she took the card. Looking it over she tucked it quickly into her bra. "The tests are different ever time, here lately we have had evil mistletoe, fear toxin, and now au personalities." Bree was sure that the man and girl would think she was crazy. She raised an eyebrow as she looked over Lydia wondering why the collector had chosen her. Stepping closer to the male she offered her hand to be shaken and spoke again with her seductive tone. "Well Gambit, it is so nice to meet you. Let me know if I can help you with anything." Her southern accent hinted at the words as they came out.

[OOC: Sorry bout that. My computer isn't quite ready to come home yet. :( Makes posting a bit difficult. In theory, it'll be home tomorrow, yay!)

Emma looks down at the card at her side, watching as fuzzy little scratches, the representation of the laminate scratching on stone flicker in and out of life in the air around it. Slowly, she picks it up, her brow crinkling. She goes to speak, tucking the card between her side and elbow to sign as she speaks, completely out of habit.

"I'm sorry, you said your name was 'Gambit?'" Clearly, she read him wrong. It must be a dialect or accent that she's unfamiliar with, which makes it odd, being from New York and all. Realizing that it would be rude not to acknowledge the others, Emma nods politely to both Bree and Lydia, a slight smile on her face.

Remy slowly stood up and gave gave a flourishing bow of his form, a proper and formal introduction to both of them.

"Das right cher. Da' name be Gambit." He flashed the trio a rather warm smile before sitting back down on the steps and looking over them rather seriously.

"So, you mean to be tellin' Gambit dat he has been plucked up outta' his home city, and dropped off 'ere, in dis place, where all kinds of crazy t'ings be happenin' all'da'time?" He just laughed for a moment, a rather genuine laugh. "Dat don't sound like nothin' to shiver about. At least this place be excitin' hm?"

Kristina didn't want to jump turns in the conversation but the girl sitting on the steps wasn't replying. Tilting her head she tried to think of another way to explain it but for the most part it seemed to be correct. "That seems to be exactly what is going on around here. Although we all have been selected for one reason or another." Looking down at the ground she tapped her toe while blushing slightly.

"You would be real surprised around here." Her voice died off as she looked back at him from beneath dark lashes. The tone was off more seductive and a deeper southern drawl. A succubus sheen was upped as Bree had gained control and enjoyed every minuet of it. It wasn't that Kristina needed confidence, it was just the pure adrenaline of meeting a new face and needing a fix that made her strong enough.

"Well, dat jus' makes sense." Gambit retorted with an air of pride. "D'ere be all kinda reasons one would wanna scoop up Gambit and be droppin' him somewhere to put him to da' test. Gambit just hope there be prizes, 'cause it's always bett'ah to play when there be somethin' to win, no?" He adjusted the lapels of his brown leather jacket as he pushed up off the steps and trotted down them, his red eyes studying the woman with a curiosity that was unsure if it sought to be quelled or not.

Something was..different..about her and, while Remy might have been well versed in 'different', it always put him slightly on more guard. The world he knew was populated with mutants and he'd never known any who meant him any good. They were, generally speaking, people who used their powers for violence, ills, or other unscrupulous things. Remy wasn't above such things, working with the thieves guild sort of made that impossible, but it was always a good thing to know.

"Oh, you think so Chéri? Surprising Gambit not be an easy thing, not by no mans stretch of thinkin'." There was almost a cocky dare to his tone. He was amused, if nothing else, by the surroundings he'd been dropped into.

Bree carefully raised an eyebrow as she trotted closer towards her. Tossing her hair lightly she licked her lips at his daring tone. "Well, I obviously am not a man." Her hand gestured over her body to make her point known. She raised her head wondering why he had studied her so closely. "For the most part this place is a lot of fun, however there is no prize at the end of the test. Other than your life I mean." Her tone was threatening just purely soaked in lust and as she tried to tone it down she knew it just raised it more.

In one quick glance she smiled half heartedly at the other women wondering if they were going to talk or if she had all the attention now. That wasn't something entirely unknown to Kristina but she hated when Bree took over and did this.
