Who: Stefan and Lexi
What: Taking a walk in the snow (and maybe finding mistletoe)
Where: The park
When: Friday night
Rating: PG
Status: In Progress

Stefan was trying to get out more. He was also trying to give Elena her space. Those two things put together meant that he spent a lot of time with Lexi. That had been the way of things over the years anyway, most often when Stefan lost control, but there were other times when it wasn't so tense. Over the years, they had remained best friends, and since she had just lost someone as well, they needed each other.

There were things Stefan truly liked about Lexi. She told him things without beating around the bush. When he was a jerk, she was the first one to let him know. When he was in trouble, she was the first one there. He didn't have to talk if he didn't want to, and she had seen him at his very worst, and their relationship stayed a constant. There really wasn't anyone he trusted more. That group included Elena and his own brother. Lexi was special.

Now that they were out, he tried to smile, even though he was faking it. He did enjoy the cool air, not that it really affected him, but everyone in the park was enjoying it. He had often thought that he should be trying this with Elena, but maybe it wasn't meant to be. He had really messed up. He had acted like a complete monster, and he had shoved her away. Maybe it was best that he let her move on. As much as Elijah made him cringe, he had to deal with what he had done. "What do you want to do?" he asked, watching the people skating on the lake.

Christmas in July had been one of Lexi's favorite things about living in Colligo the previous year and she couldn't have been happier that Asaph had decided to do it again. While she enjoyed the summer, more so now that she could go out during the day, she liked the break in the weather and even if it was only for two weeks, she got to enjoy a little winter weather without having to wait another four months. That and she got to wear her cute snow boots that she'd bought on sale just after actual Christmas in December.

Of course, the only thing that could have made everything better was if Huck was still there, but she was at least glad that she had Stefan to spend time with. They'd been friends for so long that Lexi knew practically everything there was to know about Stefan and vice versa. They could read each other and Lexi didn't take any of Stefan's crap when he got all mopey like he'd been recently. Wanting to help cheer him up, she'd been doing whatever she could to help him, but knew that he still needed to help himself before anyone else could fully help him. "I don't know. I'd suggest ice skating, but I think you'd probably fall on your ass every five seconds." She teased, smirking over at him.

Stefan didn't want to stay in and brood. The last thing he really wanted to hear was about his big forehead. More and more, he wasn't sure if he and Elena could move past what had happened. He needed to think of his own ways to move on. Lexi understood this. She knew him well enough to just get it, and it helped that she was willing to give him time.

"I don't think ice-skating would be a good thing." He really didn't want to spend more time on the ice than on his feet. He had some pride. "We can walk around and watch other people fall." There were plenty of people out there anyway. With his luck, he would crash headlong into them.

"Over all the years, how is it that we never went on a date?" He had often wondered that. He didn't really think of her like family and they had a lot in common.

"Why?" Lexi asked, glancing over at Stefan as they walked, "I don't know. Probably because we know each other too well. I mean, we know everything about each other and I've seen you at your lowest." Lexi had honestly never thought about her and Stefan dating, because of all the history they had together and they worked so well as friends, it had just never entered her mind, "Why? Have you thought about it before?" As long as Lexi had known Stefan he'd always been all about Katherine and then Elena. "I mean when would you have had time with your head always full of Katherine and Elena?" She smirked and reached over to muss his hair a bit.

"Maybe once or twice," he admitted watching the icicles hang from the trees. It was hard to believe it was July. "I wasn't as bad about Katherine as Damon was. He was the one who was waiting for her. I knew what she was. I also knew she compelled me to drink from her." Katherine was an interesting topic for him, but he had put her behind him a long time ago.

"Then there was Elena." He still hurt, although he had done the damage himself. He behaved a lot like an addict, and Lexi knew what he could do as an addict. Elena swore to love him, to want to get him through the addiction and come back. In the end, she had finally let go, or maybe he pushed too hard. Everyone had a breaking point. He just wished he hadn't found it. "I don't think we will be the same, even if we get back together."

He nudged her back, returning the smile. "You know all their is to know. You know me when I mess up. You keep me calm, and you call me on all my bullshit. What's not to like?"
