Who: Caroline Forbes and Elena Gilbert.
What: A friendly visit. Also mistletoe.
Where: Caroline and Damon's house.
When: Early evening.
Rating: PG-13 to be safe.
Status: Incomplete.
As much as Caroline felt bad for what had happened to Elena, knowing her friend had emphatically not wanted to be a vampire, she couldn't help feeling closer to her since she had transitioned. She knew part of it was just that she felt Elena finally understood her and what she had gone through. When she had turned, Bonnie and Elena had pulled away. It was their fault and she didn't hold it against them, but they had. And while they had repaired that damage and gone back to being the best of friends, it had still stuck with her. Now, she felt like the hurt between them was finally gone for good. Yes, there were some awkward things, like compulsions fading away and Elena remembering both that she had met Damon before Stefan and that Damon had confessed his love for her, but Caroline wasn't worried about it. She was secure in her relationship, and she knew that neither Damon nor Elena would ever do anything to hurt her. Besides, she was pretty sure Elena was too busy being torn between her love for Stefan and her desire to climb Elijah like a tree to get too caught up on Damon. And as for Damon...well, he knew she'd rip his heart from his chest if he ever cheated on her. Communication was important in a relationship, after all, and she had communicated that fact very clearly.
At the moment, Caroline was spending some time hanging out with Elena while Emma slept and Damon cooked dinner. She could have been helping, and she often did, but tonight she was totally taking a note from Jenna's book and letting him do the work while she played boozy housewife. She was pretty sure they kept the ABC store in business with how much alcohol they bought. Plus it helped with the cravings. And, as much as she adored Elena, she wasn't having her in the house with her so-far human baby if her cravings weren't under control. That was just common sense and practicality. She and Elena had just been chatting, with some very subtle - read, not so subtle - prodding from Caroline's end about how maybe Elena needed to stop with the vampire love-triangles and just pick someone already because getting laid would do her a world of good. What? It was totally true. Besides, it was her prerogative as Elena's best friend to point out when she was totally wallowing in sexual frustration instead of doing something about it with one of two very attractive men who were into her. She was just looking out for her. She was also out of wine.
"I need more wine," she said, getting to her feet. "Come with me. We can bug Damon while he cooks." She grabbed Elena by the arm, dragging her to her feet and pulling her along, forgetting that she and Damon hadn't actually got rid of all the mistletoe that had popped up...because sometimes it was fun to have an unexpected makeout session. Okay, let's be honest here, they'd been having a lot of unexpected sex since the stuff appeared. It was awesome. Or at least it was until she ended up under said mistletoe with her very female best friend.
