Who: Esther Drummond and Buffy Summers
Where: 3.14159
What: It's Esther's day off
When: Wednesday, July 18th. Morning
Status: In Progress

During Esther's last day off, she'd been so exhausted from the long hours at the station that she had slept most of the day and by the time she'd finally gotten up it had been too late to actually do anything. This time, she had been determined to actually go out and do something, so that she didn't feel like such a hermit. At least when Emma was in town, she hadn't felt so anti-social, because her and the other woman had gotten a long well and since they'd worked together, they saw each other quite often. She still got along with her other fellow detectives and co-workers, but it had been different with Emma; especially since they had wound up swapping bodies that one time. She hadn't seen Jack or Ianto in awhile and she had decided that at some point she was going to swing by the diner to see if perhaps Ianto was working, at least to say hello.

But first, she'd decided to stop into 3.14159 to grab something sweet. Stepping into the pie shop, Esther began glancing in the cases for something to catch her eye.

Buffy sliced a pie carefully, taking out a piece to serve to a customer. She heated it for 30 seconds, and added a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. She didn't love her job, but it wasn't difficult. "Buffy, the pie slayer," she said, taking a cherry out of the jar for the top. She put on a smile and set it on the counter in front of the man who was waiting.

She saw another woman coming into the shop, inspecting the casings. "They are all really good," she said, and it really was the truth. She hadn't been the biggest fan of pie, at least not until coming here. "The sweet berry can make anyone fan-girly. The blueberry isn't bad either. Are you new here?" She wasn't sure if the girl was new or not, but she didn't think they had ever talked.

Esther glanced up at the other blond and smiled, "New in town? No, I've been here almost a year actually." It hadn't even occured to Esther until recently that in a few months it would be a year since she arrived in Colligo and as crazy as the last nine months had been, Esther preferred being in Colligo when the alternative was that she was dead back home. "But I am new to the shop. I walk by it all the time, but haven't come in, so I decide that I'd change that today." She glanced down at the case then back up at the other girl, "I'm Esther Drummond, by the way. You're not a local, right? I think I've seen you on the Network before." There were so many non-locals that Esther still wasn't familiar with all of them, but she didn't expect that she would be to be honest.

"I've been here a few months this time around. I'm Buffy," she grinned. She usually had a pretty cheerful attitude, unless she was working and then she got over it quickly when they were done. There was a time after she had clawed her way out of a grave that she had given over to some depression, but she didn't really think of that time too much.

"I've been here a few times, but I don't remember them. My boyfriend has had to deal with all my comings and goings." Poor Spike had stayed though. She hadn't really considered how hard that was for him, but it had to be. "Asaph has a strange sense of humor. Where are you from?"

"That's awful, but at least you're here now, so he doesn't have to deal with you being gone." Emma was probably the closest to Esther who had been sent home, so she'd yet to really have to deal with someone she cared about as more than a friend being sent back, "And it's nice to meet you, Buffy. I'm from Washington, DC. I worked for the CIA there. What about you?" She glanced back at the cases of pies briefly as she waited for an answer from the other blond.

"The CIA? Wow!" Buffy leaned back against the counter, regarding the woman in front of her. "That's pretty awesome!" The thought of what she did for a living, if you could call it that, made her laugh. "Well, I was a high school cheerleader once, at least until I found out that I was a chosen one. I'm a slayer. It sounds weird, I know. I was pretty blown away. It turned out that my town was infested with vampires and demons." She knew that in this shop, she didn't look like the time to even own a weapon sharper than a nail file.

Esther's brows rose as Buffy talked about what she did, but to be honest, it wasn't too far from what she had done with Torchwood during the whole Miracle Day thing. True, it hadn't been aliens or demons who had been behind it, but she knew that aliens were the primary thing that Torchwood dealt with and more than once she'd wondered it Jack would have asked her to stay on as an official member of Torchwood, if she hadn't died. Then again, being in Colligo was probably kind of like what it was like being an official member of Torchwood, "So, you were part of a group who were chosen to destroy them?" She asked.

"Kind of like that. I'm a slayer. There are others, but we really don't work together, at least not as first. I have some friends who are like a team. I have a watcher, or an advisor. I didn't even realize there were demons until all Hell broke loose in Sunnydale." It was hard to even remember how it started. So much had happened since. She had even died.

"In the most ironic twist, my boyfriend is a vampire." She shrugged and giggled, pointing at the pie case. "What would you like?"

"That is a pretty ironic twist." Esther knew that there were vampires and werewolves and other supernatural beings in Colligo, but she'd yet to really meet any of them. So far she had met superheroes and Sherlock Holmes, since they also worked at the Station, and of course Jack, Ianto and Rose, but so far no vampires. "That must have made your job just a little complicated." At Buffy's question, Esther glanced down at the case again and finally made a decision, "I'll have the blueberry. It's my favorite."

"I know, but that has been my trend in boyfriends. Spike actually has a soul. I don't know if you have see him. He's tall, has total Billy Idol here, and will not part with his long black coat." Just the description of him would make most laugh, but this woman had never seen his bad side, and that wasn't something Buffy wanted to accentuate. "He is a former badass, and it was not easy. How about you? Anyone special?"

She took a piece of pie out of the case and added a touch of whipped cream and ice cream. She set it on the table and poured herself some coffee. It felt good to talk to someone in just a friendly way. She had missed that.

"Now that you mention it, I think I've seen him on the Network before." Esther said as she took some cash out of her wallet and handed it over to Buffy as the pie plate was placed on the counter, "He does kind of look like Billy Idol. Is he one of those really old vampires?" She picked up the plate then the fork and took a bite of the pie, chewed and swallowed, "That is really good. I think I'm gonna have to come in again." Realizing that Buffy had asked her a question, Esther shook her head, "No. No one special over here. There was one guy that I thought could have been something, but then he was sent home and when he was brought back, he didn't have memories of being here." Once he had come back, Esther had realized that she'd admired Steve more than anything and was just glad that she had been invited to his birthday party and that there was the possibility that they could still be friends.

Buffy picked up the money, rang up the check at the register, and set the change back on the counter, picking up her cup again. "Spike isn't that old for a vampire. He's 125 I think now. There are some older vampires here." She laughed again. "I never thought I would be talking about him like this. I couldn't stand him. I didn't want to want him. I denied him for years, kind of. We had a weird, really unhealthy kind of relationship. He was always there though. I watched him die in a huge battle. He went up in flames, and he was a champion. It was as much his own victory as anything, and I knew I wanted him back."

She rolled her eyes and took a drink from her cup. "His ears would be burning right now if he heard this." She put a hand on her face dramatically. "I didn't have memories either when I came back. It was hard for him, but he never gave up. It's easier since we were together back home. We don't have to get to know each other again. Asaph keeps sending my sister back every few minutes."

"I've got you beat. I worked with a guy back home, who is actually here now, who can't die. He's from the fifty-first century and while I'm not sure exactly how old he is, I know he's at least over two decades old." She was sure that there was still a lot that Esther didn't know about Jack, considering they'd only spent two months together when they'd been on the run back home and she hadn't spent nearly enough time with him in Colligo, as she would have liked, but she at least knew that he was over two hundred. Or at least that's what he'd told her.

"And I'm glad you guys found each other here." Esther said as she took another bite of her pie.

"How is he immortal? Is he a vampire or something else?" Buffy was used to the supernatural, but most of her dealings were with demons, and vampires. She was interested in the others for the reference, and also for the change of pace. "There are some vampires and demons here. We go out patrolling for them in the cemetery. I don't remember how they got here. It doesn't sound like this guy was involved in that either." She assumed that he wasn't anyway. From Esther's attitude, he seemed like a good guy.

She smiled when she thought of her tall, blond, Billy Idol haired boyfriend. "There was a time when I wanted to kill him, but I'm keeping him now."
