WHO: Bonnie Bennett and John Constantine.
WHAT: Talking during some slow time at work.
WHERE: Supply room in Something Wicca This Way Comes.
WHEN: Mid-afternoon.
WARNINGS/RATINGS: Should be fairly lowish.
STATUS: Incomplete

Though Bonnie was very pregnant, it didn't stop her from going to work like she did nearly everyday. Sure, Jeremy wanted her to cut back on her hours and relax before Sheila came, but Bonnie didn't like sitting at home, doing nothing but watching tv and eating on the couch all day. And while she didn't work as long hours, and paced herself, Bonnie found that she still liked going to work. Even though her feet always ended up killing her at the end of each shift.

And being able to do magic was always a bonus, especially when you were in your third trimester and didn't feel like doing much heavy lfiting. Bonnie was thankful that it had been a slow day at the magic shop, too, because it meant that she could take inventory and get what she needed to do done. So right now, she was in the back room of the shop, using magic to make the boxes float down from the shelves so she could check them off on her clipboard, before putting them back on the shelves where they belonged. A bottle of water floated next to her in midair, and she took a sip from it every now and then.

Constantine had a soft spot for Bonnie, though he would have denied it to his dying breath...or just killed the person to suggest it. That was a bit easier, and it didn't end in him dead. Not dying was always a plus as he saw it. But he did like Bonnie. There were only a handful of people he liked in the city, and most of them worked in the shop. Ashley, of course, was at the top of his list, followed by Spike, Cordy, Red and Tara. And then there was Bonnie. That made his whole list. Six people in the whole city he could be bothered with, and one was his girlfriend. Still, it was more friends than he'd ever had in one go before, so he supposed he was growing as a person.

Popping his head into the supply room, he watched Bonnie for a moment before speaking. "Not working to hard are you, pet?" he asked her, teasing tone covering genuine concern. "Careful what you spell, witchy. Don't want a repeat of any of the shit Potter manages." He wasn't sure why he hadn't fired James Sirius yet, since he didn't particularly like him, except that Red got on with him and he didn't want to cross her. See? This was what happened when he let himself like people. It made him soft. "Come on, lass," he said after a moment. "Take a break. It's fucking dead in there and I'm bored as fuck."

Bonnie turned her head over her shoulder, smirking a little at Constantine. "I'm pregnant," she said. "I think that allows me to use a little magic maybe. At least when it comes to the heavier lifting." She laughed at the mention of Jamie. Though she got on fine with him, she was honestly surprised that Jamie still had a job at the magic shop. Though she did want to smack him upside the head sometimes. Jamie, that was. Not John. Bonnie liked John just fine. Also, if she smacked her boss upside the head, her ass would be out the door, pregnant or not.

"Unlike Jamie, I at least think before I spellcast. Majority of the time anyway. Even I'm not prefect, though I might like to think that I am sometimes." She paused, smiling. "If you say so, boss man. I was bored, which was I why I decided to do inventory. I thought I might as well keep myself occupied."

Constantine shot Bonnie a look of mock surprise. "Shit no," he gasped sarcastically. "Really? And here I thought you'd just really let yourself go." He grinned. "Don't start using that as an excuse or I'll start giving you time off. If you need help, get help. Spelling the magic equipment is just a bad idea. I already have one idiot working here. Don't need two." But the somewhat harsh words were belied by the way he started picking up stock himself, putting it on the shelves so she wouldn't have to. "So, how much longer til the sprat's out and you can be useful again?" Because it wasn't John Constantine if he wasn't saying something at least moderately awful.

"Sorry, pet," he said, "but 'smarter than Jamie' isn't exactly a vote of confidence. I'm pretty sure that statue of Koalemos is smarter than Jamie and he rules over stupidity." He continued putting things on shelves, glancing over at her after a moment. "So...Cordy and I were talking. With Red and her lass back, we're thinking we might open a second store. Keep the bits and bobs here, take the books to another location. Keeps people from causing too much havoc too easily, and gives us more room. If they're up for it, we'll probably divide staff up between the two stores. If we do, we'll need another manager. And you're smarter than Jamie." He shrugged. "Nothing's set in stone yet, but it's something to think about, once the kid's born."

"I'd like to think that you'd know me well enough by now to know that I don't really mess around with magic. And I don't throw around the whole 'I'm pregnant' thing as an excuse." At least not with John. Jamie, on the other hand, she might have milked being pregnant to get him to do somethings that she really didn't want to do at the time for her. But otherwise, Bonnie worked hard, pregnant or not.

"Jamie just lacks common sense sometimes. Okay, he lacks common sense a lot of the time." Bonnie paused, finishing putting back what she was putting away in its proper place on the shelves. She paused for a little. "I'm actually really honored that you'd of me for that, John. It's something I'd definitely take you up on. Though I'd have to ask...why me? Why not Willow or Tara?"

"I know you don't," he said. "Let's keep it that way." Because he'd learned to never assume someone wouldn't suddenly start behaving like an idiot. His low opinion of most people was born from experience. He'd been disappointed too many times in his life to set himself up for it now. And his biggest disappointments had always come from himself and those he'd let closest. Even with people he liked, especially with people he liked, he was wary.

"Jamie's a twit," he said, "who lacks common sense all the time." He listened, raising his eyebrow when she finished. "I think it has something to do with them being co-owners of the shop," he said dryly. "I know they come and go like a bloody revolving door but try and remember these things. We'll divide running the shops between them and me. Management will be Cordy and probably you, you'd be working with Red and Tara. We'll give you lot Jamie and find someone else to help out."

Bonnie shook her head. "Right. Sorry about that. I always forget that it's you, Cordy, Tara, and Willow that all own the shop. Willow and Tara always doing the back and forth that Asaph seems to like to do with them, it's hard keeping track of things all the time. But still, honored all the same that you'd think of me for management, my sudden lapse in memory aside."

"I think Jamie'd be dead if you kept him with you and Cordy," she said, a small smirk on her face. "And I don't think the murder of an employee would look good on the store's record." Of course, she was just teasing John. She was pretty sure he wouldn't kill Jamie. ....Okay, eighty percent sure, at the very least.

John laughed. "Just me, Tara and Willow," he said with a grin. "Cordy doesn't own it. She just does so much around here that everyone thinks she does. It's a good quality in a manager, since it means I can fuck around and not do any work." He was joking, mostly, but Cordelia really was an invaluable asset to the shop. It helped that she had a no-nonsense personality and he actually liked her. Very few people could have got away with calling him on his shit the way she did.

"Oh, please," he scoffed. "I thought you knew me better than that. I'd summon a demon and feed him to it. No body, no evidence. Just clean out his flat and tell people he got sent home." It was hard to tell if he was joking or not, but there was every chance he really would feed Jamie to a demon. He was just the kind of guy who was morally ambiguous enough that this was actually a possibility.

"I try not to get on Cordy's bad side," Bonnie said. "I've seen her ticked off, and it's really not pretty. Though I'm sure you can agree with me on that." Though Bonnie was really fond of Cordelia and John. They both worked hard, and they had no problems calling people out on their crap. ...Even if it was pointing out that Bonnie could be overly judgmental about certain things. Which could get annoying, but Bonnie was more than aware that she was "judgey".

"Poor Jamie. I'd feel very sorry for him on the day he set you off enough to be fed to some demon. ....Though I'm not sure if I'd should feel sorrier for the demon. With all of the sweets and junk food I've seen Jamie eat, I'm not sure if there's much nutritional value to him at all."

John grinned. "Smart move there, lass," he said. "I wouldn't cross Cordy and it takes a lot to faze me. She's a feisty one." Cordelia, despite what one might think just looking at the pair of them, had become like a sister to him in his time in Colligo. He liked her, he was protective of her, and he'd shiv anyone who fucked with her. It wasn't often that someone called him on his crap, it was even less often they got away with it, and he liked that she was willing to do that.

"If I did it," he insisted, "he would absolutely deserve it, and I'd definitely feel worse for the demon than for him. It might catch his idiocy."
