When Elena told him that Bonnie and Jeremy were coming over, Ric figured it was probably best that he clear out of the apartment for a little while. It wasn't that he didn't want to offer moral support, he just thought it would be easier for the three of them if he wasn't around. Besides, he'd already helped Elena get settled in with dinner and a bottle of beer - which probably made him a terrible guardian but he figured if nothing else it might help her get through the revelation that she was soon going to be an aunt - and he'd offered to take her shopping to make her room a little more hers the next day. For now, she'd be all right without him and would probably handle the news better without him hovering.
And anyway, he had something he needed to take care of himself. He and Jenna had been dancing around each other since they'd arrived, and he was tired of avoiding the talk they both knew they needed to have. At least now there was a good chance he'd catch her alone, what with Elena, Bonnie and Jeremy visiting with each other and Damon and Caroline preoccupied with their new baby. This was honestly his best chance to just sit down and talk to Jenna. He'd smuggled out a bottle of tequila he'd kept around the apartment on the off chance she came by and figured if nothing else it would make the conversation a little easier. He'd never been the biggest fan of Señor Tequila himself, but he knew Jen had always liked it.
Stopping at her door, he stood there for a good minute and a half before he finally got up the courage to knock. It was probably a little stupid to be honest, since she could most likely hear his heartbeat from inside, but he needed that time to get over his nerves. Jenna was an amazing woman and, even though they had managed here before, he had really screwed things up back home. There was every chance they wouldn't be able to get past all the lies and misunderstandings, no matter how much Jen said she understood, and he wasn't sure how to deal with the possibility of losing her. Finally though, he pushed his anxiousness aside and knocked on the door, hoping against hope that she was actually there and he hadn't spent the past couple minutes looking like an idiot in the hallway.
