Bree loses control

Bree hadn't meant to lose control. Ever since she had arrived in Colligo, she had been trying to live like the Cullens do, trying to feed off of only animal blood. It wasn't easy by any means, even with Jasper's help. Bree was a newborn vampire and her body thirsted for blood. She had tried to ignore it. She had tried to squash her instincts by feeding from animals but there had always felt like something was missing. Every time she walked past a human, she was afraid that she was going to lose control. When she was around humans, all she could focus on was their pulse. She felt like she was going crazy.

Bree didn't know what happened. She had been walking through Colligo back to her room when she heard the pulse of a human nearby. Against her better judgement, she followed the sound of the thumping heartbeat, finding a woman, who had been wondering the streets alone. Bree, without thinking, started stalking the human, her prey. The woman picked up on the immediate threat and took off running through the streets of Colligo, which did nothing more than further engage Bree's instincts. The chase and the game of cat and mouse was exciting and it added to the thrill of the hunt.

Before Bree knew it, she had attacked the woman and drank her dry. It wasn't until after she was finished drinking and she had regained control of herself again that she had realized what she had just done and she was mortified and filled with deep regret. She also realised that that her PDA was on and every resident in Colligo had heard what she had just done, which mortified her even more. She was a monster.

She was relieved when Jasper's message appeared on the network and told her to wait where she was. She couldn't take her eyes off of the dead woman as she backed up a few inches from the woman's body, resting her back against a tree, bringing her legs to her chest and wrapping her arms around her legs, curling into a ball as she waited for Jasper to arrive.

There were probably others in town better suited to help Bree, considering Jasper was still fairly new to the vegetarian lifestyle of his family, but he felt a need to help Bree and simply couldn't resist. After overhearing the incident and telling the girl to stay where she was, Jasper sped through the streets of Colligo, using both his sense of smell and his ability to locate Bree. It didn't take him long before he picked up on the scent of blood as well as Bree's despair; using all the willpower he possessed, he did his best to block out the overwhelming scent of blood, coming off the woman's corpse and knelt down in front of Bree, "Bree, I'm here."

Bree never took her eyes off of the corpse as she waited for Jasper to arrive. Pulling her legs in closer, she hugged her knees. She was scared. She never wanted to be a vampire. She had been turned against her will for the sole purpose of doing bad things to people that she didn't even know. She knew she could never be human again but she wanted to be like the Cullens. She wanted to feed from animals so that she didn't have to hurt humans. But she was having such a hard time with it. She craved blood all of the time.

Bree tore her eyes from the woman's corpse and looked at Jasper as he knelt down in front of her. She was relieved that he was there. "I didn't mean to Jasper! I lost control! I didn't mean to!"

"It's alright, Bree." Jasper said, placing one hand on Bree's shoulder and the other against the side of her face as he focused on her emotions, using his ability to try and calm her down; he didn't use his ability often, because he didn't like altering another person's emotions, but in Bree's case it was necessary in order to get her to listen, "I know you didn't mean to hurt her." After another moment or two, Jasper lowered his hands to Bree's, "Are you alright to stand up?" He knew that he had to get her and himself away from the corpse before his own willpower evaporated and he did something he'd regret.

Bree was trembling as Jasper placed his one hand on her shoulder and one on her face and she looked up at him, her big, red eyes focusing on Jasper's eyes. Slowly, she started to feel her anxiety, shame and horror dissipating and she felt more in control. Briefly, she wondered if it was Jasper's doing.

Bree nodded slowly and she pulled herself to her feet, feeling a little shaky at first and she hugged herself, glancing over to the woman who was laying on the ground.

"How do you do it Jasper? How do you not crave their blood?"

Jasper could see the moment that she began to calm down and he helped her to her feet, glad that it had worked, "It's not always easy, but I have a support group who help me." It wasn't as if Jasper never craved human blood; after all, he had almost attacked Bella once when she'd cut her finger, but it was necessary to resist the urges if he wanted to be like the rest of his family, "Come on." He began to lead her away from the woman's corpse, contemplating what, exactly, he should do about it. If he simply left it then someone would find it in the morning and the police would be contacted and after the attacks a few months earlier that had been made public, it probably wouldn't take them long to figure out that it had been a vampire attack.
