There were very few things Susan could stand less than chaos, but one of them was chaos for no reason. She could understand that some (admittedly quite stupid) people might feel the need to waking up from the dead and go on a rampage if it was completely unavoidable. If they'd died after finding their wife in bed with the dustbin man, for example, or if they'd left the gas on. But honestly. These swarms of partially rotting humans had had no real reason to jump out at her. Even worse, one of them hadn't even had the good manners to have a full set of limbs. So, as any good teacher would, Susan had frowned sternly at them all, told them to go back to their graves and think about what they had just done, and then walked around them.
Now she was on the way back to the building, a bag of sensible groceries clasped firmly in her hand. She still needed to eat, after all. Kind of. And although there hadn't been anyone actually tending the till at the shop she'd left some money on the counter. Now she looked both ways, waited for another swarm of the undead to limp past, then stepped neatly off the pavement to cross the road. There were some benefits to only being noticed when you wanted to be. Susan walked briskly, moving determinedly over to the other side of the street.
Just as she hit the far side, however, the bag carrying her shopping split at the base, sending bread, milk, cereal and apples scattering over the pavement. Susan sighed and rolled her pale blue eyes skywards - this place really was pushing her - before kneeling down to start collecting the rogue groceries.
