Kal had figured the room was wired with explosives. Actually, he knew it when he had done his x-ray scan earlier. It was probably a matter of time before this man resorted to dirty tricks and set it off. He could probably break his hand as soon as he thought about pushing a button. Assuming that was the trigger.
