Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:barbara gordon, charles xavier

Who: Charles Xavier and Barbara Gordon
What: Having dinner. Pseudo domestic bliss. Snort.
Where: The Mansion
When: Tuesday evening
Rating: Undoubtedly low
Status: Incomplete

Dinner was almost ready. Actually Barbara was dealing rather well with this whole fake living together thing. It really could have been so much worse. Instead, she got a friend and that was nice. It meant that they didn't fight, and they had things to talk about. Not to mention there wasn't a lot of awkward questions. Barbara was mostly glad not having to answer a bunch of questions to someone she didn't know. Of course the whole not being able to be apart thing was a bit much, but she felt like this was normal. At least what normal was supposed to look like.

Too bad Babs was bad at normal. In any case, food was in the oven and so she decided to go and find Charles. She wheeled herself through the halls, looking for him. When she finally spotted him, she smiled a bit. "Dinner's almost ready. I didn't want to shout through the halls, trying to find you."

Charles looked up from grading papers, as Barbara wheeled herself into his study. It was rather amusing to think that he could be home and still working. It would have been rather uncomfortable if they had to constantly be aware of one another's location in the house to avoid being in pain. They took their meals together and slept in the same bed, but mostly apart from that they both worked. It was nice to be in an enforced relationship of sorts with someone who had a similar work ethic and personality to him. It was nice and simply domestic in a way his life hadn't been since his days at Oxford, sharing a flat with Raven.

"Thank you," he said, giving Barbara a warm smile. He really did enjoy her company. And the fact that she was quite lovely certainly didn't hurt. He glanced down at the last paper in the stack, finishing it quickly, then got to his feet. "I rather pity those who haven't had such a pleasant time of this," he admitted. "I have quite enjoyed your company. It will almost be a shame to have it end."

Being at home and working was nice. She liked to think it meant that in between classes, you could just take a quick nap without worrying so much. If people had to be close all the time in this little experiment, everyone would have gone mental in a day or two apparently. Very uncomfortable. Ever since they'd been put in this arrangement, she'd felt very fortunate to be with Charles instead of someone who wanted to run around like a crazy person.

"You're welcome," she responded with a smile of her own. Oh yes, it could have been much worse. "Me too. I can imagine some people are down right miserable." Oh if she had been with someone who drove her crazy.. "I've enjoyed your company too, Charles. It is, isn't it? Actually having some kind of normality. Eating and sleeping properly, it's a totally new experience for me."

"I imagine that is the case," Charles agreed with a small smile. He was certain that not everyone was as comfortable with the situation as he and Barbara were, but then not everyone had the fortune of being paired with their friends for this odd situation. He really did enjoy having Barabara around. Perhaps, once this was done, he might convince her to come stay at the mansion and teach. It was entirely wheelchair accessible, which would surely appeal to her, and she'd be near her protΓ©gΓ©. He could see no readily apparent flaws in this plan.

"Normality has never been much a part of my life," he admitted with a slight shrug. "It really goes right out the window when you can read people's minds before you can even speak." He smiled. "Raven and I made a valiant effort at domesticity, but it never really seemed to work for us. We mostly just got a lot of takeaway in between my classes and bar crawls." He really had been something of a cad for a bit there, but everything that had happened in Cuba and the months before and after had changed him. "So...tell me about your life in Gotham that leaves little room for normality."

Yes, Barbara felt very fortunate or maybe even lucky to be 'stuck' here with her friend. "It's weird though, I mean besides the amusement factor for our kidnappers, if the goal was to get people uncomfortable or learn to meet new people, how come that didn't happen to us?" She'd been thinking about that one for a while. Maybe she shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth, so to speak. That didn't stop her from wondering about it.

She grinned slightly. "It hasn't really been a part of mine either. My dad was the police commissioner of Gotham. And then he started working with Batman. After that though, nothing was normal. I guess before then too, with people like the Joker and Two-Face running around." Babs mm'd slightly in agreement, as they started back to the dining room to eat. "That was me after I decided to try being an assistant professor. It was normal.. ish. If you count setting up an underground secret base and being a vigilante as normal-ish. There were always people out there trying to blow something up, or take over or create chaos."
