Who: Charlie and Alex
What: Meeting up for a coffee/hot chocolate, and a question.
When: Thursday evening.
Where: Starting at the stables, then moving on.
Rating/Status: Low/In Progress.

Charlie was just finishing up at work when Alex showed up. He’d messaged her with an invitation to meet him after work so they could maybe grab a coffee or something. Perhaps he hadn’t let her know he had some vague ulterior motive for this evening, but he had yet to decide how exactly to go about it. It wasn;t something he was particularly well-versed in – Charlie had always been too distracted by his work for proper relationships, and people tended to get sick of coming second to a bunch of enormous fire-breathing lizards. But in that’s sense Colligo had been good to him. It forced him to spend time with people, reassess where his priorities were.

Not, of course, that he could give up his workaholic streak that quickly. Charlie was leading a horse into the stables, a little more slowly than usual as the animal had to pick up her feet high to plod through the carpet of snow. Charlie shivered in his coat as he led the animal back into the wooden building, which was remarkably warm compared to the outside thanks to a couple of well-placed charms. He was just pulling the saddle off of the horses back when he became aware of another presence in the stable.

“Hey!” He grinned when noticing Alex. “You alright?” Charlie slung the heavy leather saddle over his arm, stepping away from the waiting horse to press a brief kiss against the brunette girl’s cheek. Charlie shook some vivid red hair from his eyes before wandering away to the tack room to hang the thing up. “I’ve just got to get them all locked away,” he called back, “Then we can go.”

Alex had received the message to meet Charlie after work, and she'd happily agreed. She never minded spending some time with him, and she was really enjoying this sense of normal they had with one another. Well, as normal as a wizard and an assassin with a revenge plot could be. It didn't matter that she was Alexandra Udinov here, no one was trying to kill her. It was something she'd had to get used to when she got here, she had been slow to trust but eventually formed some good relationships, even though some of them ended up with people being sent home, Charlie had been sent home too.

Words couldn't express how happy Alex was when he came back. She had missed him more than she realized, but she had done her best to distract herself from everything that she didn't want to think about. And it wasn't too long before he was back. And she'd made another friend in Isabel. So what if she wasn't the social butterfly, no one said she had to be.

She met him like he asked, bundled up as well. She had been through many harsh winters in Russia, but it didn't stop her from feeling the cold. "I'm good." She smiled when he kissed her cheek. "Do you need any help?" she offered.

Charlie reappeared from the tack room and moved back to the waiting horse. He usually came home from work smelling of hay and horses, and he couldn't say he preferred working here to his job in Romania, but it was good enough. He enjoyed himself, which was he guessed always the most important thing.

"Could you just make sure the doors are shut on the others?" The stable had several stalls, each with a heavy wooden gate with a bolt across to keep the horses in. With a grin in Alex' direction Charlie grabbed the reigns of the animal waiting just inside the door and led it into its own compartment, finally pulling the last of the tack off and kicking the door behind him as he headed back out. He waved his wand over his shoulder as he wandered back towards the doors, and the bolt drew itself across.

"Ready?" he called across to Alex, pausing just inside the doorway as he waited for her to join him.

Alex was sure to make sure all the stalls were shut, and everything was tidy while he finished up. She didn't mind helping out with the horses, or the dogs or even his dragon. There were a lot of things she thought she'd never be doing before she came here, but all that had changed.

"Ready." Alex confirmed, nodding as she walked towards him. She wasn't sure what he had in mind for tonight, but she thought it would be nice to see him and spend some time together doing whatever. She didn't need anything fancy, she was happy even if they just watched a movie.

Charlie nodded and reached out to take her hand in his own gloved one before stepping out into the banks of snow that decorated the park, pulling the door of the stables firmly shut behind him. Pete would probably come and check on them again this evening at some point - at this time of year you could never be too careful.

"So," Charlie pulled her away, absently kicking at a pile of snow with one wellington-booted foot as the wandered away from the yard and into the main park. "I had a question to ask you." He suddenly felt a bit nervous. Actually, scratch that. Really nervous. After all, he did really like Alex, and he didn't really have a whole lot of practice of this kind of thing to feel like he had any idea what he was doing. He could face down a grumpy, forty foot fire-breathing dragon no problem, but this was something new. He really didn't want to arse it up.

A question? She wasn't sure where this was going, but she tried not to be nervous about it. He seemed like he might be nervous too, Alex had learned to pick up on stuff like that, mainly from Nikita but Nikolai had taught his daughter a lot before his death. She walked along with him, unsure of what to say. She was thinking about what his question might be.

After what seemed to her like way too much silence, she stopped walking and looked at him for a long moment. "Okay, what's the question?" Whatever it was, she could handle it. Alex was a big girl now.

Charlie paused and turned around as she stilled, looking across at where Alex was standing. “Uh,” he said, intelligently. “Well… You know Hugo’s moved out?” He’d been a little surprised at his nephew’s decision to carry on this weird marriage thing with Juno, who seemed like a lovely kid but wasn’t the whole thing… well. Charlie tried not to judge anyone, and as long as they were happy he supposed there wasn’t really all that much more to it.

“I was just wondering,” he continued. “If perhaps… you know… you fancied moving in?” It probably wasn’t the most charming or charismatic proposition ever offered, but Charlie wasn’t really the kind of bloke for that. Easy going, friendly, a good laugh maybe, but not exactly smooth. His stomach seemed to have discarded all use of normal behaviour, squirming anxiously around the pit of his abdomen as he waited for whatever Alex was about to say.

Oh good, he wasn't proposing. Alex wasn't sure she could handle that just yet. Maybe not even at all, in any case it was way too soon to think about it. She wasn't sure why he was so nervous. It was true, moving in was a big step. But she thought it made sense and it might be nice. She had been on her own in so many ways for so long now, that sharing her life with someone else was appealing. And it was Charlie, she was crazy about him.

"Yeah." She nodded, trying not to seem overly excited that he had asked. "Yeah, I'd really like that." She knew it was a bit of a risk, because he could be gone at any time, this place was insane like that...but she had to take it, take whatever time they might have and try not to worry about tomorrow. She had settled into this sense of normal quite nicely, and moving in with Charlie would reinforce that. She didn't have to be the person she was before she came here. But...if Semak ever showed up in the city for real? All bets were off.

“Really?”

Charlie had the good grace to look slightly surprised that she’d agreed so readily. He knew Alex had problems with stuff like that, that she’d had the kind of past that Charlie couldn’t even start to contemplate. He’d grown up surrounded by siblings, with parents who loved him. Popular at school, Quidditch captain, a job he’d loved…There had been a war but in comparison Charlie thought he’d come off pretty lightly. His usual easy smile cracked his freckled features, spreading easily across his face. He stepped forward before she had the chance to take it back or say something to make him feel any less giddy, ducking to press his lips against hers.

Alex would have confirmed that she meant it, if he didn't stop her with a kiss. She wasn't complaining though. She rather liked when Charlie Weasley kissed her. And she was really liking where things were going with them now. She was honestly happy, and she kind of wished Nikita could see her like this. Her mentor had long since been sent home though, and Alex didn't know if she would ever be back. Instead, she was completely content to kiss her amazing wizard boyfriend back.
