Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:esther drummond, gwen cooper

Who: Gwen and Esther
What: Gwen attempting to be a girlie friend and probably failing
Where: Esther’s flat
When: Afternoon time
Rating: TBA

Gwen had been heartbroken to see Esther dead and to acknowledge that at the funeral. She had been someone Gwen had taken under her wing and looked after especially because she saw so much of herself in the other woman. The naivety and innocence, all that purity. She had no idea what she was getting into when it came to Torchwood and had become everything Torchwood stood for and it cost her her life. Gwen knew she was lucky to not be in the same position as the young woman sitting in the room with her. Gwen was lucky enough to at least be use to seeing someone who should be dead in front of her given Jack and now Rex, so it didn’t throw her off as much as it may others. As much as it did the first time she saw Jack come back to life.

“How are you settling in?” she asked as she placed a now sleeping Anwen in her stroller so she would be more comfortable. “I know it can be a bit much, and I’ve not even been here that long.”

At least that meant she understood it a little more at the moment since that feeling of being so unsure about what was going on around her. Of course, since Esther was still relatively new to the world of Torchwood it was something so familiar to her too.

“It must be strange for you not having Jack know who you are.” It was different for Gwen, given he still remembered her just didn’t know some of the more recent things. He didn’t know of Esther at all.

It had only been a week now since Esther had found herself in that library after being shot in Buenos Aires in an attempt to prevent Jack from stopping The Blessing, so she was still adjusting to the fact that she had in fact died after The Blessing had been destroyed and that now she was on an alien planet and the Jack here didn't even know her. Sure, she'd taken pretty quickly to the idea of Torchwood and the Miracle, but this was so much more to take in all at once. At least she had Gwen there, who did remember her, otherwise she wasn't sure how she'd be adjusting.

"As well as can be expected." Esther was glad that Gwen had Anwen, otherwise she was pretty sure the other woman would have been going crazy, but there was still Rhys and Rex who weren't there and sitting here with Gwen, Esther could feel their absence.

"I've heard it gets easier," Gwen replied with a slight shrug. "I can only guess it will. And you've got us, remember?"

Even if Jack had no idea who Esther was, and Ianto hadn't been around, she knew both men would be willing to help Esther if she needed it. And if she didn't feel comfortable with them Gwen had taken it upon herself long ago to take care of her.

"At least you're used to a shit load of crazy happening?"

"I can't imagine how this gets easier. I mean, I could hear bugs thoughts." Esther had been pretty freaked out when she'd woken up at the beginning of the week and had started hearing tiny voices out of nowhere. It hadn't been until she'd tried to kill a spider in her bathroom that she realized it was what was begging for it's life. It was over now, but if this was the norm around here, she wasn't so sure she wanted to know what was next, "You're much more used to this kind of stuff than I am."

"A power I'm sure many would be jealous of," she pointed out teasingly. But what Esther said was right and Gwen's smile fell a little. She wasn't happy about being here but she had a point. Gwen had experienced stuff like this far too many times so she felt more at ease with it. "You're telling me your time with Torchwood didn't prepare you for things like this?"

"Yeah, bug enthusiasts." Esther, smirked, feeling a little more at ease with Gwen around than she did when she was by herself despite the fact that the other woman was only across the hall, "That was only one thing though. One four three month long, crazy thing. So, is this the type of stuff you'd deal with on a daily basis in Cardiff?" If more crazy things were going to happen, at least Esther was glad to have Torchwood around, even if they weren't officially together.

"This is quite tame compared to Cardiff."

It was true, being able to hear an insect's thoughts would have been more than welcome when compared to an attack, weevil or human. Or what it came to a death or two or an argument, the tears and the large amount of hurt that came with Torchwood.

"This would have been preferable to some of that."

{OOC: Sorry it's short, really tired.}
