"Well, presumably we know each other," Charles said, once Raven had pointed out the state in which they'd woken up. "Rather well, I would assume. I mean, I rather think I don't just go to sleep on sofas with people I don't know. Nor, I assume, do you." He considered it. "Perhaps whatever has caused this memory loss also resulted in unconsciousness. Which is why we were here and not the bed...not that I think we would have been in bed together necessarily. I mean...I wouldn't assume...I mean...I certainly wouldn't take any liberties...not that there's anything wrong that I wouldn't...you're stunning...I just mean..."
He trailed off, colouring slightly. "Sorry," he said. "Let me try that again. I'm not saying there's any reason we wouldn't share a bed. You're a very attractive woman. Anyone would have to be an idiot not to notice that. I just didn't want you to think I was assuming anything...untoward." He ducked his head. "I just...I'm a bit rubbish at this."
He smiled at her, more than happy to shift his focus to the problem at hand. "No, it's certainly not a coincidence," he said, much more comfortable now that he was discussing science. "I can't really think of any typical cause for amnesia that's contagious. And the likelihood that two individuals would simultaneously sustain injuries that would cause the type of trauma necessary for this level of memory loss...it's highly improbable." He smiled self-deprecatingly. "And I'm apparently not as bad with that as I am with attractive women. Good to know. I'd hate to think I was horrible at everything."
