Melinda had gotten back from the pie shop just in time to start making dinner for Peter. She didn't know if this was considered a date or was it just dinner? She was really starting to like him in a way that she never really liked anyone else. Peter was different, she always seemed to smile when she was around him. When she got home she laid her stuff by the door and headed into the kitchen. Getting the meat out she began to mix the meat with eggs, oatmeal, ketchup, barbecue sauce, and a little bit of salt. Putting it into the oven she put the timer on. Then she got the ingredients out to make homemade mashed potatoes. Cleaning and washing the potatoes she put them into a boiling pot of water.

A few hours later, everything was made. She even microwaved a bowl of peas just in case for a vegetable and his birthday cake was cooling. Going into the bathroom she took a quick shower. Getting out she went into her bedroom and put on a casual dress and then blow dried her hair. Taking a straightener to it, she finished up her look by putting on some make up.

When she was finished with getting ready she laid everything on the table neatly and then went and decorated his cake. Leaving the cake on the counter she just sat on the couch and flipped through the TV as she waited for him to arrive.

Peter had, had a rather busy day; first a full day of school then he'd spent time at the stables with Ed where Jennsen had left him a birthday cake and now he was on his way to Melinda's for dinner. He really liked Melinda and despite knowing that sometime in the future they apparently get married, it still made Peter nervous that he'd do something wrong. He'd never dated before, which probably sounded strange to some; especially after they knew that he'd already grown up in another world, but there was a distinct lack of humans in Narnia and he'd spent those fifteen years there ruling over the land as High King so even if there had been he wouldn't have had time. At least that's what he told himself.

However, despite being nervous, he really liked Melinda and the fact that she liked him too as well as his added experience as an adult helped to keep him from acting completely stupid around her like other teenage boy might in the same situation. Reaching Melinda's apartment, he ran a hand through his dark blondish hair, took a deep breath and knocked at the door.

Putting her feet on the coffee table she didn't want to mess her dress up so she decided to put her feet up. There was a good movie that was on at least, not knowing what the title of it was. It looked like a romantic comedy which she loved. She was getting excited about having a private birthday dinner with Peter, it would give them a chance to get to know one another some more. Continuing the watch the movie she didn't know if the food was getting cold or not, probably not if she just made it. Was she really that bored that she was thinking about everything right now. He'll be here when he gets here, she thought to herself.

Hearing a knock on the door she turned off the TV. Going to the door she straightened her hair and her dress up and then opened the door. "Hey there Birthday Boy." She smiled, "Come on in. So how was your day?" She asked him.

When the door opened, Peter was struck speechless when he saw Melinda and couldn't help but stare at her even as he stepped into the apartment. He'd only ever seen Melinda in pants and things, so the dress was definitly new; nice, but new and it made him see her in a slightly different light. "Hi." He finally got out as he moved so she could shut the door, "Y...you look nice." Ok, so maybe he'd spoken too soon on the whole, he wasn't acting completely stupid thing. "And it was good. School. The Stables. The usual. How was your day?" As he often thought when he was around Melinda, he was glad Ed wasn't there to tease him.

When she saw him standing at the door all she could do was look at him. It was as if she couldn't move to let him but she finally stepped out of the way. "Thank you, you look pretty great too." Hoping to not sound too forward. "Well, that's good. I hope that you enjoyed your birthday with a little fun today." She laughed as she shut the door behind them. "It was good. Did some stuff in the pie shop and went to the library and studied for a little bit. Then just came home and started cooking." She giggled.

"Yes, I did. Ed and I hung out at the stables after school. After tending to the horses we took two of them out for awhile. Jennsen also left me a cake, which was quite nice of her." Peter said, which were the most words he'd said so far tonight, "How is running the pie shop working for you?" Despite it only being about two weeks, Peter knew what it was like to suddenly find ourselve the soul owner of a business at such a young age. He was still adjusting to being the owner of the stables and was grateful to Ed and Jennsen for their help. Soon he planned on advertising on the Network for more employees.

"That does sound like a lot of fun. I had a blast with my riding lesson, I would come down there when I'm feeling stressed to ride a horse." she started laughing. "Well, you'll get two cause I made one as well for dessert." She looked at him. Going over into the kitchen she tried to find something to drink for the two of them. "Its going alright. Busy but a good busy. Its just balancing that with my college courses, but I'll learn to deal." She smiled over at him. "Do you want something to drink? I have soda, juice, water, milk."

Peter couldn't help but smile when she mentioned another cake as he followed her into the kitchen, "You didn't have to make me a cake too. Dinner would have been enough." Despite Ed having been at the stables the day they'd gone out riding, Peter and Melinda had been alone once they'd hit the trails, but this was the first time they were really completely alone with no locals passing by like when they'd gone ice skating. It was just the two of them. "Water is fine. Thank you."

"What is it that you're studying?" He asked, leaning against one of the counters as he returned her smile.

"Now what would be a birthday dinner without a cake?" She put her hand on her hips and smiled as she looked at him. It was nice for them to actually be alone together. She had a feeling that this night was going to be great, she was with a guy that she liked enjoying a nice birthday dinner. Oh and she had to remember to surprise him with his gift later as well. Looking in the fridge she got out a bottle of water and handed it to him. "I hope that your hungry. I made your favorite meatloaf and mashed potatoes and then microwaved some peas." She laughed.

"I'm studying Psychology. I want to have my own practice and want to become a family/child psychologist." She said taking a drink from her bottle of water.

"The last time I had this much cake in one day I was still living in Narnia." Peter said, smiling as he accepted the bottle of water, "Thank you. And I am hungry. I only ate lunch today." He took a drink of water as he listened to her talk about her future plans, "That's impressive. I'm sure if you work hard you'll succeed." He didn't remember anything about their future together from when he'd aged, so he didn't know if she ended up doing as she hoped, but he was sure that Melinda would wind up doing something she enjoyed in the future, "And until then, you're going to make pies?"
