Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:arthur pendragon, gwaine, lancelot, leon, merlin, morgana

Who: Gwaine, Lancelot, Leon and Morgana, Merlin, Arthur
What: Three knights of the round table get roped into taking care of children
When: Today
Where: Starts at Gwaine and Leon's apartment, from there we shall see
Rating/Warnings: Probably low, possible child sass
Status: In progress/closed

Three children didn't sound like a large and unmanageable number. There were, after all, only three of them, and maybe each a bit taller than waist high. The three knights were grown mean, broad shouldered and full of logic and reason to out maneuver any fearsome creature that would dare cross their paths. Unfortunately, the three knights of Camelot had never confronted a creature so fierce, so unpredictable, so manipulative as these three children, innocent seeming in their bright faces blinking at them as to render the men subdued and under their control instantly. The odds were presented as even, but it became quickly apparent everything was in the children's favor.

Gwaine and Morgana

Gwaine, sat on the couch, looked at the purple and green ribbons in his hands, so delicate and fine and then looked at the girl standing before him as if she were a princess bestowing him with an impossible task upon which rested the survival of a kingdom.

"You want these," he asked raising a brow, and the hand containing the colorful ribbons, "in your hair?" He wondered how Leon and Lancelot were handling their charges, and was sure his was the greater load.

It was an impossible task, it was her hair, and while the fate of a kingdom might not rest on it but the fate of his ears certainly. Did from the lecture he would surely get for allowing Morgana's hair get to a state of such tanglement. It all started with mud. Which led to a thoroughly dirty eight year old and lucky-it-hadn't-gotten-knotted-hair. While Morgana could certainly dress herself (a fact that she was very proud of and liked to lord over some spoiled prince who didn't even know how to tie his own shoes), she had much too much hair to handle on her own. Especially, without her arms getting tired and more hair than necessary ending up on the ground from little eight year olds who didn't know how to quit. That was where Gwaine stepped in - gallant as a knight as ever - and offered his services. Morgana - taking one look at his hair - agreed.

Forty minutes later Morgana wasn't so sure that she wasn't better off letting her hair do what it desired. After all, it was just hair. At age eight she straddled the line between indifference over the stuff and letting it be her singular physical vanity.

"Yes." Morgana bit back a sigh and said with more patience than she should have at her age (then again, a child her age shouldn't be attempting to speak with studied patience in the first place - but Gwaine was a special case and the Pendragons gave her a LOT of practice) "I do. It helps to keep my hair out of my face." She explained. Sensibly.

Lancelot and Merlin

Lancelot was not one to brag, and it was a good thing that he wasn't too or given the scenario he might be crowing, but he was certain that he had the most well behaved of the three. Lancelot cared a lot about Arthur, the man was after all his prince, and Morgana - was different. Gwaine and Merlin were right. Here she was much more the Lady he had spied during his first stay at the citadel than the cruel Queen he'd the misfortune of going up against. Those facts, however, didn't stop Arthur from being a ... interesting young prince. One who certainly took pleasure of reminding all of them - except for Leon - of his title. And Morgana, while of a much ... no, no sweeter wasn't the word .. kinder! While Morgana was of a much kinder disposition, she some how managed to be more intimidating, demanding, at age eight than she was as a young woman in her twenties. He had to say, even if just to himself, he felt for Gwaine. A lot. Arthur, at least, seemed to worship the ground Leon walked on. The younger Morgana didn't seem to be anywhere near as easily amused by Gwaine as her older self. In fact, if he was a betting man and it came down to a battle of wills, he would put his money on the adorable little girl.

Lancelot turned his attention back to Merlin who was coloring quietly. Yes, he had definitely lucked out in being chosen by Merlin. Then again that was nothing new.

He looked over at what Merlin was doing and asked, "May I have the red?" Merlin had asked for them to color together and Lancelot had said yes almost immediately. It was both the oddest and the simplest task he'd ever been given by the young sorcerer.

"Ok. Do you have the blue?" He asked, offering Lancelot the red crayon, and looking down at his picture. Merlin wasn't the most artistic child, but you could make out the sleeping dragon at least. The blue would color the sky and finish his little scene.

Merlin wasn't used to being stuck inside so long. He had snuck out of the apartment most days to play outside because that's what he was used to. He would do his chores at home, and then play outside with Will until sunset when it was time for supper. They would build little toys for themselves, and chase each other around, or play with the other children. Some days he would play by himself, and that was fine too. Arthur and Morgana were a bit much for him to handle constantly anyways. He would play with them a little, but got anxious after a while.

"My mother used to tell me stories about dragons..." Merlin commented to Lancelot quietly.

Leon and Arthur

Leon didn't have much of a problem with the idea of baby sitting. He had been happy to offer Gwen the help. He had grown up looking after Arthur and Morgana after all, so he was used to their antics, just better equipped to deal with it now that he was older. It was easier with Gwaine and Lancelot to help though. He might have warned Gwaine about Morgana, but decided she would put him in his place soon enough. As for Lancelot and Merlin - They took a shine to each other quickly, which suited Leon. Despite the years in Camelot and the time here, he and Merlin still didn't know much about each other. He wouldn't have known what to say to the young boy.

"Arthur, what would you like to do?" It was always best to ask the little prince what he wanted rather then suggesting things. Arthur was more inclined to listen and behave if the activity was 'his idea.'

Arthur hung upside down from a tree branch and squinted at Leon's face. He'd demanded they go outside the moment Leon had arrived, but from there, Arthur hadn't been very forthcoming and apparently he'd have to be the one to make all the decisions today.

He gripped the branch he was hanging on and pushed himself up. "Can we swim?"

Leon sat comfortably beneath the tree, tilting his head back slightly to look up at his young prince swinging from the branches, only mildly worried that he'd fall and hurt himself. "Swim, hmm? I suppose. We could ask the others if they want to come too."

It would be a good way to get out of the apartment and keep them all occupied.

Arthur pouted, just for a moment, really a very small one and answered, "I suppose if we have to."

He didn't see why he and Leon could not spend time alone together. It wasn't like he disliked Merlin or Morgana, mostly because Morgana would kick him and Merlin might cry or something. It was nothing like that at all. Arthur only wanted to spend some time with Leon. He barely got to any more.

"We don't have to. The two of us can just go for a swim, if you like." He smiled and shrugged. Leon would prefer staying close to the others if they needed anything, but they could always text him if something came up. The lake wasn't that far away, after all.

"We could bring my wooden sword and practice too, if you want. We'd have to make you a sword of your own." Leon suggested.

"Leon?" Arthur said after a moment, swinging back down and dangling by his knees so his face was closer to Leon's. He'd been keeping something close to the chest for a while now, since he arrived, and he felt guilty for it, and not certain what to do about it. "Can you keep a secret?"

"Of course." He nodded solemnly, curious as to what secrets Arthur could have here. The little ones had been watched almost constantly, Morgana and Arthur, at least, since they're ages had changed. So it wasn't as if they had to sneak off and get themselves in trouble or anything. "Your secrets are always safe with me."

"I have a sword." Arthur swung and tumbled from the tree, landing in a crouch and staring up at Leon apprehensively. "I stole it."

"Oh?" His expression fell to something that was clearly disappointment when Arthur admitted to stealing. Even if he suspected that the blond had simply found and taken the sword belonging to his older self, Arthur couldn't have known it, and there were few circumstances that Leon would excuse theft.

"And?" He waited for an explanation. Why he'd stolen it, and from where. What he was going to do now, especially after having told Leon. The older knight's tone made it clear that there were certainly wrong answers to his question, and that Arthur should consider carefully how he continued. Not that Leon could or had ever disciplined the prince, but he had long since mastered the power of disappointment and guilt when it came to Arthur and Morgana.
