Freya often dreamed in nightmares. Terrifying images of body's torn and bloody strewn madly across a forest or village. She heard cries of pain and hungry, terrified children and was powerless to make it better. But tonight she couldn't sleep. The screams and cries weren't only in her head but real.

She remembered the last round of death clearly. All the grief and mourning in a city this small and connected made it hard to ignore. Her PDA flashed with each new posting as people called out for their friends and family. She knew she just had to go back a week or so to find happier news, but it wasn't the happy news she wanted. It was the awful news that she dreaded.

Instead of going to work, she stayed huddled in her room, afraid to even go out into the hall or make a noise, or check to make sure those she cared about were as safe as she last saw them.

And that was when Morgana mistakenly sent text messages to everyone. Freya's stomach clenched and rolled as she scanned the rapidly coming messages, one after another and she knew, even if no one responded to everyone that Merlin would go with her. For Gwaine, of course Merlin would go. She expected no differently and she rather liked Gwaine and didn't want him hurt either, but unlike Merlin and Morgana, she was defenseless, so the best she could do was wish the two of them good luck and a safe return back home.

Dizzily, she reread Merlin's two brief messages to her, relief and panic coursing through her in turns. Merlin would be safe, because Morgana wouldn't let him be hurt, but Merlin wouldn't let harm come to Morgana either and it was a paradox and if something bad happened to one, it would happen to both she just knew it.

This almost made her wish she had less brave friends.

Lorne only knew of the Camelot crew through Freya. He had spoken to Gwaine and Morgana a few times, to Merlin a little less than that - he wouldn't go so far as to say he knew them. However, he did know the hero types. And the over-protective ones: the ones who would do about anything for family. While he wouldn't place Morgana in the first, he could glean enough from her text and the times that he had met her that she was very much the second. And since this was involving Gwaine, and anyone with eyes could see that Merlin was definitely the first with a strong bit of the second, he knew he wasn't wrong in assuming that the young warlock would be accompanying his seer friend to save the knight. Oh yeah, he knew just how odd that sounded (and to think his mother had been adamant that he wouldn't be around anything worth seeing if he'd taken on music as a way of life).

He also knew that Freya would be worrying herself sick over all of them, Merlin especially. He might not know her family but he did know her. He and his roommate got on splendidly for all of her mousy ways (ha! .. no pun intended) and all of his more over-the-top-singing-show tunes-in-the-shower. Which was why he was gently knocking on her door, "Freya? Sweetie?" He called, letting that be his announcement before pushing into his room. "Now if this isn't just a perfect picture of Girl Worrying Herself Sick, then I don't know what is."
