Who: The Doctor and Idris.
What: The Doctor meets the TARDIS face to face. Expect biting.
Where: Outside the library.
When: Backdated to after this.
Rating: Who knows. Idris is unpredictable.
Status: In progress.

The TARDIS was here! Well, no, that wasn't really any big news. The TARDIS had been here for months. Two of her, in fact. But the TARDIS was here in a human body, calling herself Idris, and that was definitely new. The TARDIS in a human body. A woman's body. A TARDIS who was also a woman. A woman, who happened to be the TARDIS. It was fascinating. And not in the way Amy and Rory kept implying. And River. And the Master. Really, everyone was implying things and it wasn't like that. Much. Christmas come early, indeed. As if he bothered thinking about things like that.

All right...maybe a bit.

He checked the scanners in the TARDIS - the blue police box TARDIS, not the person TARDIS - and managed to locate his wayward police-box-in-human-form near the library. Really, he could have just gone to the library and not wasted the time looking. It made sense that she would be there, having just arrived. Flicking a few levers and twisting some knobs, he headed toward the library with minimal fuss. It appeared the TARDIS was much more likely to behave when it concerned herself. Understandable, he supposed. He arrived on the steps of the library and stepped out of the box, spotting Idris immediately. It wasn't that she stood out in any way that made her seem anything other than human, but he just knew it was her.

"Hello," he said with a grin, making his way over to her. He walked in circles around her, peering curiously at her as he moved. "Aren't you just...this is brilliant! I had meant to ask where you were, but I was in a bit of a rush and didn't think. But no matter...I used you to find you. Er...that is to say I used blue boxy you to find fleshy girl you. This is confusing. Have I mentioned that this is brilliant? Because I really ought to have done."

The sound of the breaks echoed in front of the library, right beside her. Idris looked down at herself to make sure it wasn't her making the noises. Which, of course it wasn't. How silly of her to even think that. Then she turned and watched as she materialized in front of the library. Of course. How else would her Doctor ever reveal himself? He was quite the show off.

Her eyebrows jumped up in a smile at him. His eleventh self. Admittedly, Idris would of been pleased with either self of the Doctor. He was her Doctor, no matter the face. One version didn't receive more affection than the other. Though, true, it was his eleventh life that she had seen with human eyes. It didn't change how she felt about either of his lives present in the odd tipsy city.

Idris jerked her head back as he began to walk around her in circles. This was nothing new to her. She had done this already, he would do it. Her head tilted to the side as she let him ramble on.

"You like confusing." Idris said. "And you never ask."

He would ask though. He was supposed to. After he finished rebuilding the firewall around her Matrix. That was in the future for him.

"You've mentioned brilliant several times." She said as she turned, trying to make it so she was always facing him. It was leading to many circles and possible dizziness. "While it is brilliant it is terrifying. And sad."

It really wasn't about showing off. Much. All right, it was a bit about showing off. But only a bit. Mostly it had been about getting to Idris as quickly as possible, or rather to get to her before his other self. As much as he and his tenth incarnation could respect one another and get along, there was still an element of jealousy there. And Eleven didn't want Ten getting to Idris before he did. After all, she'd been made from his incarnation of the TARDIS, as he saw it, so she was his. All right. Maybe not his. But definitely not Ten's.

He couldn't help grinning at the sight of her. She really was quite lovely, and there was something utterly thrilling about a beautiful woman who was also his TARDIS. His TARDIS. As a woman. No, that would never get old. In a fit of exuberance, he threw his arms around her, hugging her, then just as quickly pulled back and resumed his idle wandering. "Absolutely brilliant!" he exclaimed. She knew him, in a way nobody else did, and it was terribly exciting.

"You're right," he said cheerfully. "Of course you're right. I do like confusing. I love confusing. And I really don't ask, do I?" He could apologise for that, but he wouldn't. That wasn't him. "Maybe I'll give asking a shot next time."

"Brilliant's a good word," he said with a shrug and a bark of laughter. Oh, this was just too wonderful. "A great word. And it suits you. Because you are. Brilliant and mad and impossible and...you! You're just so very you and I love it!"

He came to a sudden stop at her last words, staring at her and tilting his head to the side. "Why terrifying?" he asked. "And why sad? No, scratch the terrifying. I suppose it would be to suddenly be thrust into so much new and...yes...but why sad? What's sad about this. You're here and you're alive...not that you weren't before, but it's a different sort of alive...and we're talking. How is that anything but good?"

Oh, he'd never apologize and she knew he never needed to. It was the way their bond worked. They knew each other so well. He certainly never apologized for causing her to spark or blow some odd this or that, but she was never too cross about it. She was an out of date model, and he was a boy who stole her. And she stole him. There was no need to apologize.

She didn't have change to hug back, but that was alright, she'd hug him in a few minutes. She knew she would. It was almost unfair to the Doctor; considering she was a time machine.

The words caught in her throat when he asked. It was sad because everything came to an end. Eventually she would be tossed out of the city or she would manage to burn through Idris's body (again). It wasn't a good-bye, not properly, but the image of his future self in her console room stuck in her mind. Standing there, almost begging her not to go, with tears on his face. Her poor lonely old Time Lord. He was always so ready to say good-bye to everyone.

Idris raised her hands to his face, her fingers resting against his cheeks. It should have been a happy meeting. Not a sad one. She wasn't going to make him sad. Not yet, anyways.

"There is something I've always wanted to say to you," she said instead of answering his question.

He had stolen her, or borrowed her rather. But stolen was really a better word because, much as he tried to tidy up the image, why would he ever return something so utterly brilliant? But then, maybe she had stolen him too. Or perhaps they had stolen one another. He rather liked that possibility best, with its symmetry and synergy. Yes. That worked best really, now that he thought about it.

He was worried when she didn't answer his question, and he couldn't help but wonder what she was hiding from him. And why she was hiding it. She was his TARDIS. They knew each other in a way nobody else could possibly comprehend. She was his and he was hers and they were theirs. And that was how it worked. So why would a flesh body change that? Perhaps being in a human body had made her silly. He couldn't really say.

Still, she had something she wanted to say to him, and it was such a novel thing to have her speaking to him - actually speaking to him with words and a voice - that he couldn't bring himself to deny her. Even if the ache still sat like a millstone around his neck, threatening to choke him. He wasn't sure he'd felt such a simultaneous sensation of excitement and dread before. It was curious and not entirely pleasant.

"All right," he said, standing in front of her and looking into her eyes. She had eyes! Brilliant! "What is it you've always wanted to say to me?"

She would tell him when the time was right. Not right now. It was supposed to be a happy moment, not one that he would look back on and frown. He had quite a few of those already. A pile of good things and bad things, hadn't he said? Or maybe he would say it. She was have a difficult time judging when he was.

Her lips curled into a soft smile. Her hands remained where they were, brushing against his skin. Even though she had just said the words only a short time ago, it still made her eyes water. Were they supposed to do that?

"Hello, Doctor." Idris said. "It's so very nice to meet you."

The Doctor grinned at her words, a broad stretching of his mouth that left him looking terribly young despite his years. The expression faded into a softer smile, older somehow and tinged with sadness, as he saw the tears in her eyes. He hated the idea that she was hurting and that he didn't know how to help. He was always rubbish at these things.

Bringing up his hands, he brushed his thumbs gently under her eyes to wipe away the offending moisture. His hands slid down to cup her cheeks for just a moment before he dropped them back to his sides.

"Hello, Idris," he said softly, overwhelmed by the intensity of the moment. "It's so very nice to meet you too."

A smile crossed her face at the exchange. This was much better. Tears, was that what they were called? But, they were good tears. Oh, she was far from sad. She was so very, very happy to finally speak to her Time Lord. Even if it meant they would shout and argue, they could also smile and reminisce over their adventures they had. Over strays long gone, but still very dear to both of them.

And, finally, when he needed comforting, she was there for him. She always had been. She always would be. It was different, however, when one could touch the person they loved and hold them when they were sad or upset. That, to Idris, was perhaps the single best thing about having a flesh body. Being able to comfort her Doctor in the way she knew he needed.

Her eyebrows raised and she lowered her hands from his face. "Idris is the name of the woman whose body this belonged to before me." She paused for just a brief moment. "You said my name was Sexy."

The Doctor quickly realised the tears weren't the sort that led to weeping and awkward flailing and things catching on fire - don't ask, no really, just dont - and relaxed imperceptibly. Happy tears were fine. More than fine. Happy tears were wonderful and a bit confusing and contradictory but mostly brilliant. Particularly because it was his TARDIS who was experiencing these sensations.

Of course, then she had to go and talk, and the Doctor found himself flailing ever so slightly. Mostly on the inside but a little bit on the outside too. Okay, rather a lot on the outside, actually. "Ah! Ah! Ah!" he stammered. "No...that's a private name. For when we're alone. And we're not alone. We're on the steps of a library. And there are people about. And you can't just go calling yourself Sexy in public. Particularly not around...libraries. Because there are...rules. Yes. Rules. And...stuff. Well...I suppose you still could but...that's not the point."

Then he grinned, boyish and charming once more, and leaned forward. "But, oh what the hell," he said softly, close to her ear. "Hello, Sexy."

It seemed like she wasn't the only one who could read what the other was saying. Before she could even say 'We are alone', he had already dismissed it and pointed out they weren't technically alone. Idris looked from side to side, noting the people and the looming library. There were rules about names in front of libraries? That was just silly. But, from her point of view, most things things with humans and humanoid like creatures were silly.

She paused when he leaned forward. Then she herself smiled like a sort of school girl. "Hello." she said again, unsure exactly what to say in return. She supposed she could have kissed or even bit him in return, but, he didn't seem fond of either of those the last time she tried.

Her head tilted towards him. "And now, what do people normally do in a situation like this, Thief?"

"Hello," the Doctor said again, his own smile dopey and a bit besotted. He still hadn't quite gotten past how brilliant and amazing this all was. At least he'd skipped the angry, denial stage of the proceedings and had accepted her for what she was. Then again, he wasn't dealing with a Time Lord murdering planet using a bunch of distress signals to give him false hope. So, that was good. Still, he probably needed to stop saying hello before she decided he was simple, or somehow damaged in the head. She might do anyway, really. The TARDIS had always been cleverer than him in her own way. It was part of her charm really.

He considered her question. "They..." he began, then he paused. "I don't really know, honestly. I'm not entirely certain there is a 'normally' for a situation like this. I mean...this is a rather unique set of circumstances, isn't it? You being all fleshy. Me being able to see you...like this. Us being able to talk. It's all new. New and brilliant!" He grinned, the expression softening into a fond smile. "So...I suppose the real question is...what would you like to do?"

"What I meant, Doctor, was people who are like us." Idris paused, realizing that was not a proper way of putting it. "I mean, people that are in our position with one another."

The Doctor paused. "Hmm..." he said. "Well...there aren't really people like us, are there? I mean...there's other-me...but that's not the same. And..." He stopped as she clarify. "I really don't know," he admitted. "I guess it depends on the people. I guess when people get reunited, or united in this case...I suppose...well, sometimes there's hugging involved, but we've done that. Not that we can't again. Some people kiss. Other people...do you want to go for a walk?"

"You are not fond of kissing. Unless you've changed your mind. How do people change their minds? What is wrong with the one they have?" Idris babbled for a moment. "A walk! Brilliant. Let's go walking."

"There's nothing wrong with kissing," the Doctor said with a shrug. "It can be quite nice." Yes, he'd been terribly uncomfortable with kissing in the early days of this regeneration, but Reinette had cured him of that. Now, he was almost fond of it under the right circumstances. "It's not actually a physical change, or a change to the mind itself...but people are made up of their experiences. They're always growing and changing." He smiled and took her hand. "All right then. A walk it is."

Idris took his hand without a word, thinking about what he had said. Oh, he had grown so much since he was the young Time Lord who touched her console for the first time. He saved worlds, he saved lives--he saved children. Without him even knowing it, he had saved her; saved her from the fate of rotting away in a junkyard or possibly being outfitted to turn into a battle TARDIS to fight the Daleks in the last days of the Time War.

So many possibilities. So many choices he could have made.

With a timeless look in her eyes, Idris leaned forward and pressed a simple kiss to his lips.
