WHO: The Doctor and Rose
WHAT: Explorations and preventing a bored alien from being stupid
WHEN: Just after his post
WHERE: Wherever the Doctor ends up.
RATING: TBD
STATUS: Incomplete

Things were on edge at times when it came to the Doctor, purely because he wasn't good in one place. He needed to be about and doing things; constantly moving. This place didn't let him do that so she had to forgive any moments when he made her feel stupid or unwanted. He didn't really mean it, purely because she knew that he was grumpy and that really just meant him saying things he didn't want to say. She made sure her trainers were tightly secured before locking up the house and walking into the TARDIS.

"Okay the tortoise has food and will survive for as long as we're away. We're exactly are we off too?" she asked as she stepped up to the console, ready to press the few things she knew how to press. She didn't know where they were going, after all, so it was hard to do anything. If she knew a lot of things that was.

She just hoped it would be fun. Give the Doctor whatever it was he needed.

It wasn't that he wanted to be bored and grumpy and rude. Most of the time he didn't realise he was being bored and grumpy and rude until he'd already been it, and even then sometimes he wasn't sure. But there were times when this place just got to him. The Doctor didn't know what triggered it or why it happened, but sometimes the idea of not being able to up and leave, of being tethered made him want to run and run and never look back again. Normally when this mood hit him he liked to hide in the bottom of the TARDIS until he felt better, but today... well, it wasn't happening.

He looked up from the main console as Rose entered, glasses perched on the end of his sharp nose, lips pressed tight together. Then he took a deep breath and pressed down on a lever. The console lit up and something high above their heads went 'whooosh'.

"I don't mind," he replied. "I have the co-ordinates River sent over for the flesh-eating worms. Or... did you want the beach? We could go to the beach if you wanted the beach?"

She had noticed the change in howhe looked as she entered and she kept her eyes down for a moment. She wanted to help him be a little more content here and even though she hated being stuck here she was use to it. She could live not too badly in the one place. Of course, that was what made her go with the Doctor in the first place. Her boredom.

"Running from worms, or going somewhere we've been a dozen times? What do you think?" she asked him with a grin before giving his cheek a kiss and nudging him. "Come on then. You're the one that knows where to go."

Rose's elbow nudged into his ribs, and the Doctor turned to give her a faint smile that was only partially genuine. He'd spent the last thousand years travelling. He couldn't be in one place for two long - he just didn't know how to do it any more. And he was very aware that at times it made him very difficult company. Rose, bless her, had always beeen so kind and patient and he felt bad for being so old and grumpy. But he couldn't help it. And like people had said before, when this version of the Doctor got bored, things tended to go from bad to worse very quickly.

"Okay!" he forced himself to grin down on her, before spinning off the fire up the TARDIS. The machine whined and lit up, the floor shook and things bleeped and they were moving, the Doctor clinging to one edge of the console, Rose at the other. It lasted about three minutes, then there was the familiar pulsing noise and they settled down. The Doctor released a breath, straightening up before glancing over at Rose. She was used to this now, of course, but he liked to make sure she'd hadn't knocked herself out on a railing or something. That was never good.

She knew him well enough to know a feigned smile and she quickly looked away. As much as it killed her she would rather he could just get out again. Be able to travel and see more things, do what he liked, even if it meant leaving her behind. Just so he could be happy again. Genuinely happy.

Grabbing onto the railing as the TARDIS shook, she kept her eyes on the pulsing part of the console. Once everything was settled she glanced over at the Doctor and smiled a little. She would try her best but until he was really enjoying himself she would find it difficult to really show excitement.

"Come on then," she said after a moment before jogging to the door.

The Doctor followed Rose to the door, letting her fling it open to reveal... Nothing like what he'd expected.

They were in a forest. Not just any forest. A rainforest. That wasn't right. They shouldn't be in a rainforest, should they? He was sure that hadn't been part of the plan. Of course, The Doctor wasn't known for his accuracy when it came to driving the TARDIS. He could arrive here or there, yesterday or tomorrow or ten minutes ago. At least here there was only space to get lost in. And not even that much of that.

"Huh," he commented conversationally, before turning to look a little apologetically at Rose. They were still stood in the doorway, peering out at a maze of green leaves and branches and hot, humid air. For the first time, a huge, genuine grin split his face. Because it was so unexpected.

"Overshot a bit," he explained, trying to sound apologetic but not really succeeding.

She sneaked in to look out the door from behind him, tilting her head as she took in the scene in front of them. It didn't look like what she had imagined, and not anywhere she had been here yet, but that was what made it better. This was new, and for a moment she could pretend they weren't being kept on the one planet. Imagine that they were still travelling to different planets and times, and just enjoy the moment.

And it was really worth it when she saw a grin she hadn't seen for a while, his eyes so alive with excitement.

"Maybe we should go back? Don't know what's out there," she said as serious as she could, though he would know the tone. She wanted to go out there as much as he did.
