She nodded, seeing no reason to try to conceal the truth from him. He would more than likely observe her interactions with the rest of the community, and realize how much time she had been spending with humans in general, even if she could manage to avoid that one in particular. So far, she hadn't done a very good job of keeping her rash vow to swear off the living.
"He nearly died in a car accident, several years ago, and then later--after he'd recovered--he actually saved my life once. That's not something you forget. I know I don't have any excuse, but this place leaves me all tied up in knots sometimes. Inside." She tapped her temple, and then pointed to her heart. "So I think maybe I should stay away from people for a while. Remember my place."
