Who: Sirius Black/Padfoot, Lily Evans - Open to others.
What: A run.
Where: The Park.
When: Lunchtime
Rating: TBD.
Status: In progress.

Sirius was lounging on a park bench, legs stretched over the path, a lock of dark hair dangling down over one eye. Paper littered the remainder of the bench, stirring in the wind and weighed down by a mixture of pebbles and Sirius’ arse. A book was propped in his lap, and Sirius' bottom lip was snagged between his teeth as he skipped over the text, quickly, in case anyone saw him. Although it was lunchtime on a week day, and most of the occupants of the park were either under ten or over eighty, and none of them seemed that interested in a lone, handsome boy in his early twenties taking up an entire seat.

Sirius’ head rolled on his shoulders, stretching out the tendons before he turned his hand, using a biro with a bitten end to jot a note on the pale, unmarked skin on the inside of his arm. The scratch of the pen wasn’t helping, and he squirmed uncomfortably on the hard, wooden bench.

Oh, bugger it.

Sirius’ body twisted in on itself, shifting, rearranging, and then a dog jumped down from the seat to shake itself out, finally settling on its haunches on the edge of the path. Itching. A whine curling in the back of his throat. Padfoot’s teeth were big and white. His tongue was long and pink and warm with blood as it lolled out of his mouth, letting the cold air touch it. The biting breeze cooled for a moment as Sirius' mind floated to the surface, scrabbling for purchase in the dog's body. Then he twisted again, forcing a cold nose through thick, black fur. Biting irritably at the burning, itching skin beneath.

Buggering fleas.

She had to get out before she gave in and apologised to James. He should apologise first and until he did, she wasn't going to undo the charm. Even if she did start it he should know not to mess with a girls hair; his however was fair game. Was about time he stopped being so in love with it, making himself try and look cool. So she shoved on joggings and a running top, pulling her hair up into a pony tail and shoving a hat over it. It was such a muggle thing, in a way, to go running to get away from things but she didn't care.

Soon she was jogging into the park, stopping for a moment to take a drink from her water and fixing her iPod. The music was blaring in her ears making it easier for her to forget. Merlin, a few months ago she hated James and now she was finding it hard to stay mad at him. This place really had messed with her. Once she was sorted, she started to jog once more.

Padfoot froze in his biting, ears pricked. Body frozen. There was something on the air, filling his nose and making his tail twitch eagerly. It smelt like red, a concept built from Sirius' experiences rather than Padfoots, who knew green and red as some murky inbetween shade. Padfoot scrambled to his feet, paws large and clumsy against cold floor, tail lifting dust from the ground. Body frozen, ears pricked.

And then he saw her. Different but the same and distracting from the itch on his spine. Pounding along the floor, the noise of her feet loud, and Padfoot heard the earth shift beneath her. Instinctively, he ran to join in, itching to run as well. Padfoot's body was long and heavy and hot, full of strong, coiled muscle, and he reached her quickly, with a joyful bark bursting from his throat. Sirius forced himself to pull back, not to knock her over completely, but Padfoot bounded around her ankles, and suddenly they were both in an awkward tangle on the grassy floor.

Padfoot ended up sprawled over Lily's legs, tongue lolling out of his mouth. A canine grin. A human glint in his eyes. Chest rising and falling rapidly under fur as an affectionate sound rolled up from his throat.

Before Lily knew what was happening she was being tackled to the ground. Her immediate thought was to lash out, kick and do what she could to get away from her attacker. But the heavy weight certainly wasn't human and neither was that noise, after all she was sure she had heard a bark. Sighing softly, she laughed and pulled her ear phones out.

"Thanks for that, Black," she said as she reached out on automatic, running her fingers over his sleek coat. "You could have acted like a normal dog and pounced on me rather than shoving me over."

She was meant to be in a mood with him. He was James' best mate anyway and he probably supported what he did to her even if it was only revenege for what she did.

Sirius liked being a dog. It was so easy. Dogs don't understand angry or guilty or grudges. If he wanted, he could let his annoying, endless human mind sink down underneath canine instinct. Burying it under the need to run and scratch and howl.

Cool, delicate fingers brushed over his fur, probing, relaxing, and Padfoots jaw stretched. Yawned. Hot tongue cooling in the air. Lean body stretching out over legs. Nose full of smells and ears full of sounds. He moved off the body beneath him, stretching out on the itching grass beside Lily. Green strands tickled exposed belly. A bark from another animal somewhere far away. His ears pricked up again.

Padfoots cold nose pressed against Lily's hand, nudging, nuzzling. Fidgeting until her human fingers rested at the point behind his twitching ears. Moony was good at this. Even in human form, Sirius quite liked someone rubbing the spot behind his ear, playing with his hair. Dark eyes rolled up to look at the girl sat beside him, puppy-dog look firmly in place.

Lily watched him as he got comfortable, dropping one of her arms behind her head as a sort of pillow. But soon she felt a nuzzle and she laughed, lifting her hand to place it where he wanted her to, scratching at his ears in a way she had found worked the last time he had become Padfoot.

''You really are more agreeable like this.''

Sirius remembered, somewhere in the midst of resisting the urge to eat a bug, that he was supposed to be mad at Lily Evans. But, as previously noted, dogs aren't very good at holding grudges. (There was another dog in the park. Padfoot's tail twitced. A curious, eager growl rising from deep in his chest.)

But still, he had thought he'd escaped the part of his life when every other sentence out of James' mouth started with the word 'Lily', up until the point where Sirius was forced to beat him to death with a stick. Or every time Sirius suggested anything vaguely fun, James would look nervous and uncomfortable. Or whenever James did remember how to have fun, Lily would kick off like some mad, redheaded lunatic and James would come over all love-sick and pathetic and Sirius would, once again, have to beat him to death with a stick.

Yes, he had thought that was finished.

And now it was happening. Again. And just because he'd been to their wedding and was their son's Godfather and was an adult, it didn't make it any less frustrating. Or annoying. Or stupid.

And it was also very hard to be mad at Lily when she was scratching at that point behind his ear. It was different when a girl did it. Whenever Remus pulled on his fur it almost hurt. But in a good way. Padfoot yawned, shook himself out. Legs and tail all stretched out over tickley grass. He squirmed out from under her fingers, rolled onto his back, and suddenly Sirius was back, long dark hair fanned over the grass, one eyebrow quirked and a grin that was still suspiciously canine cracking his features.

"Do you give all the boys head-rubs, Evans? Or am I special case?"

She moved her hand out the way when he hinted at it, pushing herself up to sit as she watched him transform back into his human shape. She never really noticed how much he looked like a dog at times when he was himself. Especially that grin of his. Brushing a bit of air that had come loose from her hair tie, she pushed it back behind her ear as she rolled her eyes.

"A special case for animals. Though to be honest, aren't you a bit of an animal normally?"

He could take that as a compliment or an insult, and Lily had an overwhelming feeling that he would take it as a rather disgusting compliment.

Sirius propped himself up on his elbows, rubbing at the tip of his nose, which suddenly felt very clean and empty, although still a bit above his normal, 'human' sense. It'd fade eventually. He shook his head, scratched at a point just above his ear (God, he was suddenly deaf. How did he know anything was going all most of the time??) where something had bitten him. At Lily's words, he just gave another wicked grin and a lewd wink.

"Wouldn't you love to know, Evans?"

Then his gaze suddenly fell into a wince, and the animagus arched his spine gracefully, lifting himself off the cool grass a fraction. Long fingers reached around to scratch the small of his back. "Bloody fleas," he swore. "You're going to have to brew me something, you know. There's only so long I can allow my body to be used in this way. They didn't even buy me dinner."

"No thanks. I've heard enough stories."

She really had. He had done his fair share with a lot of her friends, practically all the girls in her dorm talked about him at some point or other. She had also seen a lot of fighting because of him. She once had to break up a fight that had gotten into hair pulling rather than spell throwing because it turned out Sirius had kissed them both in the same night.

"I'll get you something, don't worry. I'll do it when I get back, you'll have it by morning."

So she wasn't happy with them both but she didn't want Sirius suffering something like this.

"Thanks Evans!" Sirius responded perkily. Then, before she could react and move away, he leaned in towards her and quickly licked her cheek. He'd have liked to say it was just some leftover instinct from Padfoot, but actually he was just a bit disgusting. He was just recoiling quickly enough to avoid a slap when he noticed the note he'd scrawled on his arm not five minutes ago. Something forgotten clicked back into place.

"Shit," Sirius swore. "My book!" And he scrambled back onto his feet and bounded over the grass to the bench he'd been sat at previously. Most of the paper had blown away by now, without the benefit of Sirius' rear end to weigh them down, but the books was still there. Sirius grabbed it, tucking it casually under his arm.

"It's fi...Sirius! Merlin, you're disgusting!"

He was out of hitting reach so a glare would have to suffice. For now. She'd slap him when she got a chance, after all. But then he was running after paper and she stood up quickly and grabbed a few sheets herself, passing them over. But she could see paper further away.

"What's all that?"
