Who: Ron Weasley and Isabel Evans
What: 'Hello roomie! ....What did you do to your kitchen?'
When: Today, a little while after Isabel arrives.

The flat was still a little bit of a disaster area. Ron's bedroom was, and always would be, a complete tip, and it was beginning to spread into the sitting room. The kitchen still hadn't recovered from the overflowing kettle/exploding toaster/curtain fire fiasco that Ron had called 'making breakfast', and was more or less unusable (he'd been eating all his meals at Harry's.). The whole place, in fact, needed a bit of TLC.

Ron himself was lay sprawled over the sofa, his lanky, six-foot-something frame taking up all the spaces, an electric muggle game in his hands. It was something he and Lily had found while they were kicking around the shops. Basically, there was a chess board on the little screen and you were white, and then... something... inside played as black. It was alright, but it was very predictable and Ron had taken to beating it in less than a dozen moves. Perhaps he should give Remus a text and see if he fancied a real game...

Ron was happily taking out the computer's queen when, weirdly, there was the sound of someone at the door. The redhead froze, before propping himself up on his elbows and peering over the back of the couch to where someone seemed to be turning the doorhandle... and then the door opened. The door opened and someone walked in. A girl, blonde and pretty but definitely not anyone Ron knew. For a moment, the (ex-)wizard stared at her, doing a rather accurate impression of a confused, freckled goldfish, before he managed to voice his current thought.

"Who the bloody hell are you?"

Isabel hated the idea of going to find her apartment. It felt like giving up, like accepting the fact that she was stuck in this city. And she didn't---she couldn't. She wouldn't give up on her friends and family, not after everything that they had just been through. But she did have to accept that getting out might take time, obviously more than a day or two, and that meant she needed a place to stay.

She took a deep breath and opened the door to #203C.

And found a complete and utter mess.

No, this couldn't be right. She had been assigned to this apartment, but it was clearly being lived in by someone. By the looks of it, a few someones. Possibly a pack of rabid dogs.

"Who the bloody hell are you?"

Isabel's eyes widened as she turned her head to look at who was speaking to her---a lanky red-haired guy around her age. And, judging by the accent, British. "Sorry, I thought I was supposed to be staying in this apartment. Looks like it's already full..."

Ron frowned, then stood up on the sofa and clambered easily (if a little clumsily) over the back, tugging anxiously on the sleeve of his jumper as he looked across at her. "There's another room..." he offered, pointlessly, before waving one hand at the door, striding over the piles of 'stuff' to join her. "Is your name on the plaque?"

Ron stuck his brightly coloured head out into the hallway, craning his neck to examine the polished plaque set outside the door. Sure enough, there was his name 'Ronald Weasley', and beneath it, new this morning; 'Isabel Evans'. Oh well, wasn't that bloody brilliant. And with his newly destroyed kitchen as well. Pissing perfect. Ron's head retreated from the hall and he turned to face the blonde.

"You Isabel?" He checked, and then shrugged awkwardly. One hand lifted to rub nervously at the back of his neck, which had suddenly flared a deep red, along with the tips of his ears. "I guess you're supposed to stay here... I'm Ron. Weasley."

"Plaque?" Isabel echoed. She hadn't noticed a plaque, but then, with everything going on in her head, she probably wouldn't have. She watched as the boy quickly looked out in the hallway and then turned back to face her, a sheepish look on his face.

"You Isabel?"

She nodded, "Yeah, I'm Isabel. You're stuck here, too?" She continued to look him over, to try to figure out if he was a threat. He didn't seem to be, but she knew that didn't mean anything. She had thought Nicholas was safe, and look where that got her. In fact, maybe that's what this whole thing was---a Skin game. It wasn't like they didn't have the power. They emptied all of Roswell, leaving just her, Max, Michael, Tess, and their friends. And even their friends had started to disappear. Maybe this time they were singling just her out. Vilandra.

Isabel shook her head, as if to dispel the thought. She couldn't think about that now. She had to stay focused.

"Yeah," Ron admitted. "About four months now. D'you.." he hesitated, wishing Hermione or Harry was here. He'd never been much good in these kind of situations. "Do you want a cup of tea or something? I mean... there as this thing with the kitchen, but I can still boil water and... things."

Ron shoved his hands deep into his pockets with a awkward shrug. "I don't... Sorry. You know, that you were brought here. Is anyone you know about?" Because when Ron had arrived Harry and Hermione had both been here for a few months, which had definitely made it easier. Even if Hermione had somehow managed to get shacked up with a man that, at lesat as far as Ron was convinced, was the most boring muggle on the planet. But he didn't want to think about that because it made him want to hit something.

Four months. Isabel felt a lump form in her throat. Four months without Max or Michael, without her parents. Four months alone in a strange place. Four months... It was too much to think about, and she was past the point of overwhelmed. So when Ron offered her a cup of tea, she silently nodded, a vacant expression on her face.

"...Is anyone you know about?"

She swallowed hard, forcing herself to speak, "Thank you. I mean, it's not your fault, but... And no, not that I can tell; it's just me here." Isabel felt tears start to well up in her eyes for the second time that day, and she blinked rapidly, doing her best to hold them at bay. "What about you? Are you alone here? ...Are there a lot of people here?"

Isabel's eyes were bright, like she was holding back tears, and Ron resisted his wild urge to leg it as far away from the crying girl as possible. He wasn't good with things like that. Hermione had often berated him for it but he just didn't have a bloody clue what to do most of the time. He'd grown up with five older brothers, and Gin was hardly the most girly girl there was. His sister was more likely to punch him than cry.

"Erm..." Ron moved to the sofa and picked up his jumper from where it had been chucked carelessly to the side. He motioned for her to sit. "No. My best mates are here. And my sister. And... a load of others," he shrugged, still holding the jumper in his hands like a shield. "They're all mental ages, though. They've been brought from the future and stuff... People's kids are here, and people who are dead back home. But there's people here from all over the shop. Other realities and stuff."

And that explanation was really very weird, Ron realized. And he felt bad because he had a crowd of people here that he knew and she didn't have anyone. He supposed she'd be welcome to hang around with his crowd, and a part of him thought it'd be good to have someone his own age around. Of course, Harry was still Harry, but he was middle-aged and had kids and a wife (in the shape of his sister.) to worry over. And then Hermione was a bit closer to his age, but Ron felt a bit like she was putting up with him whenever he was around. Like he was a kid with a crush who she just tolerated. He'd felt that way at school, sometimes. But it was worse here, with their increased age difference.

"Your friends might still turn up," he offered, in a way he hoped was reassuring. "I mean, not many people seem to be here on their own..." He moved over to the kitchen, filling up a pan with water so it could be heated, leaving the door open so he could still talk.

Isabel sat down on the couch and listened as Ron listed the number of people he knew in the city from back home. Then he explained that some of them were from different parts of his timeline, and her heart skipped a beat.

Alex.

Alex could come back. He could be here with her. She knew it was an incredibly selfish thing to think of, to wish for, but she couldn't help it. How many dreams did she have of him? How many times had she wished she had told him everything---how she had pushed him away, how she loved him? They could have a chance here.

But that wasn't fair. If he did end up in Colligo, he would be living on borrowed time. And he would know...he would know what he was going back to. How could she condemn him to that?

"...I mean, not many people seem to be here on their own..."

Ron's words forced herself out of her thoughts, and she followed him into the kitchen. "I'm not sure it's fair for me to want that... To want them to be kidnapped, and brought into this..." It was at that moment that Isabel got a better look at the kitchen. "...Did something blow up in here?"

"Oh," Ron looked a little guiltily around the disaster area that was currently working as his kitchen. "I... uh. Tried to make breakfast." He waved a hand in the direction of the completely useless, blackened toaster. "I'm a wizard," he added, a little uselessly. "I mean... usually. This place took my magic away and gave it to... some girl. And I'm not very good with electricy."

Or whatever it was called.

Ron shrugged and swung himself up to sit on a sideboard, looking across at Isabel. "This place likes to mess with people," he told the blonde, his tone suddenly dejected.

Isabel knew that certain things existed that other people simply refused to believe in. She was living proof of that fact. But the man she had spoken to on the PDA---the one who said he was a knight from Camelot---and now this? A wizard. A wizard who couldn't make breakfast because the city gave his powers away to someone else. A wizard who couldn't even pronounce 'electricity'. It was too much.

She raised an eyebrow at him before simply saying, "Right." She then added, "I'm pretty good in the kitchen. I can handle the cooking if you want." For now. "...And I can make the tea if you're worried about keeping the explosions to a minimum."
