Entry tags:eames, sirius black

Who: Sirius and Eames
What: Eames has a confession. It's a bit awkward.
When: Just after this.
Where: Eames' flat
Rating/Warnings: Sirius' temper and a vampire. So swearing and violence, probably.
Status: Complete, closed

Sirius was nervous. He'd been nervous from the moment he'd opened that first ominious text from Eames, although he'd tried to hide it behind a joke and a flippant remark. After all, it didn't take a genius to put two and two together, but he didn't want to believe it. Much the same way he hadn't wanted to believe Pete would hurt their friends like he had, despite the overwhelming evidence making it impossible to deny. But there was no evidence yet, he reminded himself, and Lily wasn't dead. Thankfully. Although who knew what could have...

Willing his anger and suspicion down - at least until he knew anything for sure - Sirius shook his head and bounded up the last few stairs to Eames and Finn's floor, striding down the corridor to knock sharply on the door. He was tired. Exhausted, actually. It hadn't exactly been an easy night for him, with Lily and Regulus both needing attention and between them keeping his nerves stretched almost to breaking point, and it had actually been a while since he'd pulled an all-nighter. Sirius smothered a yawn and, patience failing, tried to door handle, finding it open and sticking his dark head into the flat.

"Helloooo?" he trilled, before stepping a little further inside, stretching as he did so. He tried to push down that nervous feeling in the pit of his gut, to ignore the way his stomach curled or how his muscles across his shoulders were tight and stressed. He shouldn't be worrying. Sirius liked to claim he never worried, and here he was getting worked up over nothing. "Eames?" he tried again. "Panic over! I'm here!"

"Come in," he called back, standing out on the balcony and watching everyone down below while he drank some tea. He had a bruise at his temple, his balls still felt more than a touch tender, and there were teethmarks in his hand, but really, that was more than fair enough given what he'd done. He winced as he took his sunglasses off, and then went back inside to meet Sirius.

"You look like shit. Speak to Ariadne, she'll help you sleep," he said instead of a normal greeting, and then shifted awkwardly. Part of it was because his nuts were sore, but mostly, he had no idea how to tell Sirius what he needed to tell him. So he decided to start from the start. "You remember last night, when I left early? I bumped into Lily and offered to walk her home."

"I don't want..." Sirius started, about to argue that he didn't want to sleep, really, and anyway he and Ariadne weren't yet back at the point where he could ask her for favors. If anyway, he got really desperate he'd ask Lily or someone to brew him up a sleeping draught.

But Eames' next sentence made the words die in his throat. His stomach sank, and he found didn't need to hear anything else. He wasn't stupid. He wasn't even surprised.

"It was you?" He hadn't meant it to come out as a question, but for some reason that was what had happened. Sirius' voice was low and dangerous, something twisting in his face to make it ugly and distorted with barely contained anger. Eames was his friend, but in a situation like this - with one of his family from home on one side and the Colligo crowd on the other - Sirius would side with his original friends every time. Much the same way he would always side with James when his best mate argued with Regulus.

Sirius swallowed around the way his throat was suddenly closing, his eyes narrowing somewhere between confusion and anger. "You bit her?" he confirmed, quietly. And he didn't understand why Eames had done that. But then once again the image of Lily, alone and terrified on some dark street, flashed into his mind, and he found that suddenly he didn't much care what the other man's reasons were.

Eames watched as Sirius worked things out. He found it fascinating, how Sirius's emotions showed so vividly on his face, but this was neither the time nor the place to reflect on his friend's apparent lack of a pokerface. "It was, and I did. I have... little to no control over this. It's why I left, and then Lily was there and..." He trailed off and reached for his poker chip just to have something to do with his fingers.

He couldn't even look at Sirius. He was thirsty yet again, as if it had ever really gone away, and if he looked at his friend, he'd be staring at the pulse in Sirius's very lovely neck and working out how best to feed from him and how the fuck had Mitchell put up with this for nearly a century? Fucking hell.

Sirius' fist was making contact with Eames' jaw before he was even aware of making a decision, pushing him back against the wall. Sirius had seen Eames fight before, knew the man was quick and strong - very possibly more so than Sirius himself - and he was a vampire these days and so very likely even quicker and stronger than he had been before. But Sirius matched him in height and his blood was roaring through his ears like thunder, boiling just under his skin to cause spots of colour high on his cheekbones and up the back of his neck.

"You fucking wanker," he hissed, his face close to Eames' as the words were spat out. "She's fucking sixteen. What the fuck, Eames?" He couldn't get that image of Lily and Eames out of his head, saw it more clearly than he saw the room around him. Sirius couldn't ignore the wave of hurt and betrayal that was mixing with the overprotective anger surging like fire through him. Eames was his friend, or so he thought, and he must know how much Lily and her family meant to Sirius. Back at home, they were all he had. And if Lily hadn't got away... Sirius' upper lip curled unpleasantly, and he jarred Eames back against the wall again, glad of the knock the back of the man's head made against the plaster.

"What the fuck!?" he repeated, the volume of his voice lifting.

Eames couldn't help but stare at those spots of colour on Sirius' face, his eyes turning black as he realised what that meant and the thirst became all he could think about. He licked at his lips as Sirius got in close, and he heard the words, he really did but all he was aware of was that if he tilted his head just so, he could have perfect access to all sorts of lovely arteries and veins and he was at home so he could get cleaned up easily and...

his head smacked off the wall again and his mind cleared a bit as he groaned in pain. Only a bit, mind. "Is anything I say going to matter right now? Or are you just going to kick my shit in?"

"What the fuck can you possibly have to say? You're so pissing lucky I don't have my wand," Sirius growled. He'd have done anything for his magic right about now. He could have turned Eames into a slug. Or maybe not. He wasn't up to James' standard when it came to transfiguration. Perhaps he'd just smack him in a body bind and leave him under some stairs.

Sirius hadn't missed ther change that had come over Eames' face and eyes as he'd got closer. He knew, in the back of his mind, that he should back off and get away before he joined Lily on Eames' snacking list. But that scrap of logic was lost in the red mist of Sirius' temper, and rather than get out of there Sirius drove his free fist into Eames' gut.

"You could have killed her!"

All the breath went out of him as Sirius punched him in the stomach and he folded over a little bit, only to be stopped when he smacked his head against Sirius' chest. "You think... I don't know... that?" he wheezed, shutting his eyes as if that could stop him hearing the sound of what had to be Sirius's heart beating, only a few inches from him, there were only a few ribs and some muscle and a layer of skin to get through, and... He pushed himself back up, glaring at Sirius and licked at his fangs as he deliberately didn't fight back. Yet.

"I am doing all I can to fight this, but it isn't enough. I don't want this, I hate it, I hate that I'm working out right now if it's worth the mess to go for your carotid or if I'd be better off just biting through your wrist instead, but I am, and I. Can't. Stop. It."

He got his hands up between the two of them and shoved Sirius back, not bothering to pull back on his strength, and then stepped away from the wall, rolling his shoulders. "I know what I could have done to Lily. I know what I did. This is why I asked you to help keep me away from the children. I can't fight this Thirst. Not all the time."

Sirius didn't like fighting people who didn't fight back. He had had enough of doing that at school and with Regulus, and he didn't expect it from Eames. He just found it frustrating. Then Eames was talking and pushing him away, sending Sirius stumbling back across the room, only just managing to catch himself before he fell. Sirius glared from across the room, his hand itching for his wand, his knuckles aching.

"Then you shouldn't have been near her!" He bellowed furiously., his voice bouncing off the walls. "If you can't fight it, you shouldn't have offered to walk my best friend home!" Sirius took an angry stride forwards, closing some of the space Eames had put between them. He knew he was being stupid, was putting himself in danger. For a moment he imagined those sharp teeth of Eames' ripping through him, and had to hide a shiver. Then he remembered Lily's bandaged wrist, her pale face, and it was gone again.

"Don't made excuses. Don't fucking act like this isn't your fault. You knew exactly what you were doing!"

"I thought I could, and I was wrong," he said quietly, and then Sirius was being a fucking idiot and coming at him again. Well, then. If Sirius was so determined to get in his face... Eames stepped forward to close the gap as Sirius was snapping at him, and then grabbed the front of his jumper to pull him in close once more.

"I am not making excuses, I am trying to explain," he snarled, his voice low and raspy as he started to walk Sirius back towards the wall. "I have not denied that this is my fault, not once, because I am completely at fault here and I know that. I didn't have to tell you anything. And of course I knew what I was doing. You have no idea who I am or what I'm capable of."

Sirius's back was pressed against the wall by this point and Eames was nose-to-nose with him. He reached up with his free hand and grabbed Sirius' hair, pulling his head over to the side and exposing his neck perfectly. Eames licked his lips and leant in closer, and then stopped. What the fuck was he doing? Jesus fucking Christ, this was Sirius!

Jumping back from Sirius like he'd been burned, he pinched at the bridge of his nose and turned away from him. "Shit. Fucking hell. Fuck," he muttered, followed by "You... you should... Get out. Go."

Sirius felt a flare of something weirdly close to triumph as Eames moved to meet him, only to have it replaced by a brief flaring of panic as Eames’ fingers clenched in the wool of his jumper. Sirius’ eyes widened momentarily, considering for the first time that Eames might really hurt him. But he’d already hurt Lily, what was there to keep him from hurting Sirius? Sirius’ shoulder blades scraped against the wall as he was pressed against it, and his teeth jarred together painfully. For a moment, he had a flash of déjà vu, a memory of his childhood rearing its head.

Sirius glowered into Eames’ black eyes as the man pressed his face close to his own. He was just opening his mouth to argue back when Eames was tugging at his hair, wrenching his head to one side. Sirius was suddenly very aware of the long, pale curve of his throat, with his blood pounding vulnerably beneath his skin. Oh fuck. This was fucking brilliant.

Then, amazingly, he was released, and Sirius’ hand flew to his neck, half expecting to feel hot, wet blood beneath his palm as he stared disbelievingly across at the other man, trying to wrap his head around what had just happened. He’d known Eames had hurt Lily, but the idea had seemed so foreign to him up until now it was as if he hadn’t really believed it. But he did now. He couldn’t trust him. Sirius stood away from the wall, dropping the protective hand from his throat as a dangerous glare worked its way back across the ex-wizards features.

“Stay away from them,” he told Eames in a low voice. “Lily, James… Harry, Reg, Remus. All of them. Stay the fuck away, alright?” And then he turned and strode out into the hall, letting the door slam closed behind him.
