Who: Emily and OPEN
What: Taking part in one of her favourite hobbies
When: Early Afternoon/Backdated to just before Dorian's text
Where: Park
Rating/Warnings: TBA
Status: In progress

Emily was feeling slightly bored, and if she was honest, worried. Everything with Dorian had been extremely difficult since she got here, since he seemed unable to do one of the things he really wanted to do. And it had made her feel worse. She couldn't help but think that it was her fault, that there was something about her he no longer wanted. What if she was doing everything wrong, and he thought it useless to give her a hint. After all, if he did not find her attractive, then what was the point in trying anymore? Sighing softly, she looked down at her feet.

She shouldn't let herself be so controlled by her feelings for a man. And yet she was.

Pulling herself from her thoughts, she kneeled down on the grass and readied her camera. She had so many new things to take photographs of, various places to take advantage of. Since her father had given her a camera she had certainly been fond of the hobby. Had even managed to turn it into work since she came here. After taking a few photographs of the pond, she sat back on her legs and checked them over. They seemed perfect, and she smiled happily.

As it happened, Yvaine was also bored. No longer yoked to a stranger, she found herself with an excess of free time. Much of that time was spent either visiting Aziraphale's bookshop, as she had struck up an odd little friendship with the gentleman, or in Colligo's parks. It had occurred to her that she should perhaps get a job and no longer live off Obi-Wan's kindness. But a star didn't exactly have many talents or skills that lent themselves to paid employment. And a former star had even fewer talents.

One that still remained to her, however, was her keen observation of all that went on around her. Centuries upon centuries of watching the earth meant that she still fell into the habit of simply watching her newer and more limited surroundings. And the girl kneeling on the grass near Yvaine's perch on a bench was certainly worth the time. Especially with that strange contraption in her hands. What could it possibly be doing?

"Is it magic?" she asked, almost before she'd realized she meant to ask the question. "That thing you're holding. What is it?"

Emily hadn't noticed the other woman whilst she was here and was slightly startled to hear her speak. Shifting to look behind her, she smiled softly and shook her head. She knew some people were from a time before her, the same as some were after, and although it's wasn't a new thing this form of camera was. Kneeling up a little, she switched the camera away from the viewing and back onto the setting to take pictures.

"No, it's not magic. It's a camera, it takes pictures of things."

She should probably move and show her, but she didn't want to overstep. Especially since they had not met before and there were boundaries you could not overstep when it came to a stranger.

"I'm Emily."

Yvaine leaned forward, hair falling over her shoulders. "Takes pictures? How? Is there some sort of imp in there with an easel? It looks far too small for that." Photography had not yet made it to the lands of Stormhold and the rest of Faerie, and while she had learned a great deal about the advances in crafting and technology, she did not understand every nuance. It wasn't as if Obi-Wan was taking snapshots of their every moment together.

"Yvaine," she added belatedly, with a faint smile. See, she could learn to interact like a human. As a human.

"No nothing like that." Emily had to try her best not to laugh at how ridiculous that would be, but she wanted to remain polite. She had to remind herself that such a thing might be possible for the other woman, given the various places that people came from. "It's difficult to explain, really. With this type, which are a lot more advanced than the ones at home. These use some sort of computer chip, quite amazing technology, and they just store the picture you take. It sounds strange, and I'm not really the best explaining it sorry."

Emily smiled at the introduction before passing the camera the other woman's way, making sure to put it onto the right setting first. Once Emily was settled next to Yvaine, she tried to show her how to hold it and where the button was for the picture.

"You just...point it at the image you want to take."

Yvaine could tell when she was being mocked. But Emily didn't seem to be laughing maliciously, and she might have come from a world without imps. Or easels, for that matter. One could never tell here. "A computer chip. Well, that's terribly informative." Perhaps Aziraphale would have a book on these cameras. She was beginning to treat his store like a library, as he was rather more personable than the staff at the local library and far more amenable to her inquiries.

She took the contraption in her hands and hefted it, intrigued in spite of herself. "It's lighter than I thought." Point it at what she wanted to capture? Yvaine aimed it towards the pond and clicked the button carefully, then blinked when the little panel on the back changed to a miniature version of the scene she'd pointed to. "Good heavens. It's so small. How do you ever see anything?"

"Sorry," Emily responded with an apologetic smile. "These ones are a lot different to what I'm use to and I'm not entirely such of the mechanics of how it works. But I am going to read up on it."

She watched as Yvaine looked it over, ready to jump in if it looked like she was about to drop it. And then she experimented with the camera and soon she had a picture.

"When it's developed it will be a lot bigger. Though I believe it's done a little differently with this form of camera."
