Characters: Jenna Sommers and Alaric Saltzman
Date: Tuesday Morning
Location: Ric and Damon's apartment
Summary: Talking and acclimating Jenna to Colligo
Rating: Low, likely.
Status: In Progress

Jenna had sat behind the library, where Molly had directed her, for just long enough to get nice and cold before Molly's friend, a young man who introduced himself as Adam, got her out of there. The whole operation was fuzzy, Jenna's attention on being quiet, being quick, and being in a fairly intense amount of pain. Running through the night to avoid flying giggly-balls intent on her death and destruction was something that she thought probably fell under the whole "exerting herself" thing that she was supposed to be avoiding.

Once she was delivered safely to Ric's apartment, she passed out, hard, curled up on the sofa with her head on one of the arms. She didn't recall being moved, but at some point during the night, Ric (she presumed) had carried her into a bedroom. When she woke, she was tucked into the bed, comfortable, warm and safe. Ric had pulled a chair up beside her and was slumped in it, asleep but looking terribly uncomfortable.

"Hey," she said softly, reaching out to take his hand. "I don't bite, you know. You could have crawled in here with me.

Jenna's voice pulled Ric from an uneasy sleep, causing him to jolt awake in his chair. His back protested that sleeping there had been a phenomenally bad idea, and he was inclined to agree. Still, he hadn't been sure how bad Jenna's injuries were and he hadn't wanted to chance things. He made a mental note to ask Damon if he would give her some blood to heal her once Ric had gotten a chance to explain things. If she even wants to stick around after that, a large part of his mind argued. He knew there was every chance Jenna would want nothing to do with him, or any of them really, once she knew the truth, he just hoped that wouldn't be the case.

Looking at her now, he gave her a tired smile and squeezed her hand gently. "I wasn't sure how bad your knife...thing was," he explained with a yawn. "I didn't want to risk reopening your stitches or anything." He released her hand and made his way around the bed, toeing off his shoes and slipping under the covers behind her. Wrapping his arm around her and taking hold of her hand again, he pressed a kiss to her shoulder. "Better?"

Jenna smiled and closed her eyes again, easily pretending that they were curled up in her bed. It was always her bed they curled up in, partially because he had a "bachelor pad", but mostly because she had two teenagers. "This is always better," she said quietly, relaxing into his embrace.

"And the knife thing isn't great... But it could be a lot worse. I'm glad it's not." Jenna shifted a bit, wincing as the new position pulled her stitches, so she adjusted again, snuggling closer into Ric. "Nothing important was hit, so it's pretty much just annoying."

"I'm glad to hear it." It was a little strange knowing that they were from different points in their relationship, that she was from a time when things had progressed further and they had overcome their baggage and grown closer. But Ric knew he cared about Jenna, and he had missed her when he'd been here without her. To him, their feelings for each other were what mattered in the end, not the obstacles.

"And I'm even more glad to hear that," he said at her assessment of her injuries. "How are you feeling? Still loopy? Do you need more painkillers? Water? Anything?" He knew he should tell her the truth and not stall, but he couldn't even begin to work out how to do that. It was so much, and he wanted to savor this moment while he could.
