WHO: Ianto Jones and Jenny
WHAT: Killing Toclafane.
WHEN: [Backdated] Not long before this.
WHERE: The streets of Colligo.
RATING: TBD
STATUS: In Progress

Running on adrenaline and a virtually unending supply of Time Lord energy, Jenny hadn't stopped, hadn't even slowed down, in days. She was covered in dirt and ash - doing her best not to think about what the ashes had once been - and her clothing was ripped to virtual tatters. To say that she was in a good mood would be lying. To say that her mood had improved since learning of the death of one of her fathers would, also, be lying. However the desire to obliterate the Toclafane, to not at least attempt to reason with them even if such efforts continued to fall on deaf ears, had finally passed. Somewhere around the sixth or seventh hour she had felt the anger switch to sorrow and had realized that her dad was right. Killing the Toclafane wasn't going to undo any of the damage they'd done thus far. It wasn't going to make things better and it certainly wasn't going to bring anyone back to life again. Not to mention, Jenny knew that the version of her dad who had been killed wouldn't approve of a violent reaction anymore than the one still living did.

Of course, that didn't mean Jenny had stopped fighting. As mentioned, she hadn't even slowed down. She had simply switched her strategy. She'd gone from a vengeance seeking soldier to, well, her father's daughter. And this time she had vowed to stay that way.

So for the past few days, Jenny had been saving people. Anyone she came across, anyone who was hiding or injured or overwhelmed by insurmountable odds in what felt like a no-win situation, she did her best to help them all. Before, when she'd first met her dad, Jenny had wondered why people were so willing to follow along after him through all sorts of situations. Now, though, she thought she understood it a bit better. People, above all else, wanted to live. They would listen to just about anyone who was able to make that happen and, she discovered relatively quickly, they would even follow along with only minimal stupid questions being asked if the person trying to save them had already proved themselves capable of doing so. In short, Jenny had managed to gather, however inadvertently, a relative following of locals who owed her their very lives. A nice thing to have, she supposed, when this was all said and done but it made helping others a bit difficult when she had people who wanted to stay close out of some belief her very proximity was keeping the Toclafane at bay.

Fortunately, she had managed to get the latest ragtag group she'd gathered to the clinic. She was making her way back down the street toward a large cluster of spheres she'd spotted earlier when she noticed someone else up ahead. Hefting up the gun created by none other than the Nikola Tesla - or, at least, one of the ones he'd made that she'd tweaked a bit - Jenny took aim at a Toclaphane that had appeared behind the man while three more came at him from in front. "Oi!" she called out, "no cheating!" Then she fired, barely waiting for the electricity to reach the sneaky sphere before jogging closer to the rest of the action. Recognizing the man under attack at Ianto Jones, she stopped when she was close enough to help if needed but not so close she'd be in his way.

"Fancy meeting you here," she greeted the man and, for the first time in days, Jenny managed a smile that didn't feel entirely forced.

Ianto wasn't wearing a suit for a change, then again there was no point in wearing a good suit just to go out and ruin it helping people and killing Toclafane. It felt good to be doing something again, helping people and fighting the good fight. It was what he'd done for most of his life, the years that counted anyway, and it felt right to do it again here. He wasn't reckless of course, because he knew he could easily be killed, but he did what he could. And he had one of those guns Tesla had made. The thing was certainly handy, and it gave him a fair shot at helping people, so he couldn't help being a fan of the scientist. Of course he would have been anyway, if only because Tosh might have slapped him otherwise.

He'd helped some people get to a safe building before he'd been cornered. He could take out Toclafane but there were three. And then he heard a girl's voice and the Toclafane's focus shifted a bit just as he heard the noise of one going down behind him. Damn, it had been closer than he thought. He raised his own gun and shot one of the Toclafane before giving Jenny a small smile in return. "A lovely day full of destruction and danger and likely running?" he said, pausing as if considering it. "Sounds about right for running into you. Where are you headed?" All in all it was oddly normal conversation considering the circumstances.

Where was she headed? It was a good question and one that Jenny really didn't know how to answer just yet. She'd never had a location in mind, really, unless it was to get someone who was injured to the clinic. She'd always simply gone in whatever direction her feet had wanted to carry her - or that the Toclafane seemed to be flying - and the rest sorted itself out.

Of course, explaining all of that amidst a fight for their lives...well, it actually wasn't very difficult for her to manage but she wasn't sure Ianto would appreciate a ten minute answer to a rather simple question. So she settled for a casual shrug and, "Hadn't decided yet, really. There was a good sized gathering up the street a ways that looked like it might be worth checking on." Turning casually, she pointed her weapon at one of the Toclafane and fired. The sphere crashed to the ground. Two more promptly appeared in its place.

And Jenny felt a very strong urge to say words she shouldn't.

"What about you?" she asked instead, glancing briefly at Ianto then taking aim at another Toclafane. "I doubt you're out here hoping to sightsee so are you searching and destroying or working on rescue with the rest just an added bonus?"

Of course she was going to go check out the large gathering of Toclafane. She was the Doctor's daughter, which meant she was more than slightly mental. But with them, that was practically a compliment. He shrugged at her question, not really having a destination in mind. He was helping people where he found them, and killing Toclafane when he could. It gave him something to do, and made him feel a little less useless in the face of this mess. He couldn't even imagine how Martha had made it through a year of these things.

"Hadn't really decided," he said, taking a shot at one of the remaining Toclafane. "It's been a bit of both really. Helping people. Taking down these things. Doing what I can really." He looked around as he spoke, because idle conversation was dangerous when there were killing machines about.

"Want a bit of company?" he asked.

Jenny flashed him a grin before dropping into a split as a Toclafane appeared in front of her, its knives whirling in her direction. Raising her weapon so she was aiming up at the attacking sphere, she fired then leapt back to her feet. "Sure!" she agreed, seeing no reason why she shouldn't have company. Ianto seemed more than capable of taking care of herself. Provided he could keep up, which she had no doubt he could, he was more than welcome to join her.

Shooting the second to last Toclafane, leaving the final one for him, she paused and tipped her head ever so slightly. "Right," she announced rather suddenly after a second of silence. "This way!"

And with that, Jenny took off at a jog up the street. Yes, it was the middle of an invasion and yes, running headfirst into a large group of Toclafane wasn't the best way to stay alive. However, it was true. She was the Doctor's daughter and therefore was more than slightly mental. Particularly in situations like this one.

Ianto couldn't help but be impressed with Jenny's skill. She was good in a way the others at Torchwood never had been, and he supposed it came from being the daughter of the Doctor. After all, he'd seen the Timelord accomplish things that should have been impossible more than once in his life.

There was one Toclafane left and he shot it before making his way after her. It was exhilerating, fighting beside her, in a way it had only ever been with Jack. He put it down to people not quite from his world and left it at that, just enjoying the experience. It really was about time he started socialising, instead of pining for Jack. And it had been pining, however pathetic that made him.

He had to be just as mental as her to be going along into the middle of a group of Toclafane, but then Torchwood seemed as good an excuse as Doctor's daughter, especially when you considered he'd been part of the organisation twice. He could have left after Torchwood One and the Battle of Canary Wharf and had a normal life, but instead he'd chosen to go to Cardiff and Torchwood Three. He supposed that made him just as insane as her, if not moreso.

"So," he said as they went on their way, "how do you like it here?"

Grinning over at him as they made their way down the street, she gave a slight shrug of her slim shoulders. "It's not so bad, I suppose," she answered honestly. "Thought it was brilliant at first, of course, until all of this started to happen. Now..." She turned, not missing a beat as she shot a Toclafane that had appeared in front of them. When it crashed on the ground at her feet, she swiftly kicked it so that it soared into the air and managed to knock two others off course before crashing through an abandoned shop window.

"Ha! Did you see that? Complete accident. Oh, I am good," she exclaimed before realizing she'd been mid-conversation before being interrupted. Sobering a bit, without even so much as a pause, she finished with, "I still find it brilliant, actually, just decidedly more dangerous. Wonderful for me, considering I was made for this sort of thing, but it certainly isn't for everyone."

She fell silent for a second, head tilted as she used her ridiculously good hearing to listen for any Toclafane up ahead. Not hearing any of them close enough to be a threat, she looked back to Ianto and questioned, "What about you? Is the city living up to the memories of your last visit?"

Ianto raised an eyebrow at the display, barely resisting the urge to clap. "That was certainly impressive," he said with a small smile. "Just imagine if you had been trying." He lifted his gun and shot a Toclafane that approached, then returned his attention to their conversation. It really was surprisingly easy to multitask if you just paid attention on your surroundings. And that was one thing Ianto had always been very good at, observing and dividing his attention.

"If it weren't for the death," Ianto said, "I would be enjoying it...or at least feeling comfortable with it. After all, this is the sort of problems we faced at Torchwood. It's almost nice to have a bit of familiarity. As it is? I guess dying before I came here has put me off it."

He shrugged at her question. "Last time I was here," he explained, "we all got messed about into alternate versions of ourselves, I ended up getting kidnapped by the Master to mess with Jack and there were multiple near death experiences...so you could definitely say it's living up to expectations. Whether that's a good thing or not...it's hard to say."
