WHO: Sherlock Holmes & Jade
WHAT: Investigations! And a date. Sorta.
WHEN: Monday, December 20th; Evening
WHERE: Jade's flat and a fancy local cafe
RATING: PG
STATUS: In Progress

Picking her up hadn't been necessary. There were no observations to be made at her flat, nor in the hallway of the building, nor on the way to the cafe. Picking her up had been pointless to furthering of his understanding of the situation. And yet, it had seemed wrong to say he would meet her there. Not because he was attempting to create the proper atmosphere to influence their behavior. Or maybe? He didn't know why. It was eluding him, and that was making him even more anxious about his decision. But if he could make it too the cafe without letting on that there was something amiss, perhaps he could put it aside and allow his mind to focus on the investigation.

At least, until the problem was determined, and he could return to his own flat in order to demand an explanation from John. He'd understand. Sherlock had a very keen feeling that whatever was going on was something that John would understand far better than him.

Pausing in front of Jade's door, Sherlock straightened his posture, adjusted his suit jacket, took a deep breath (Why? It was just Jade. It wasn't as though he were marching into battle.), and knocked. Maybe if they hurried, they could make it to the cafe before his heart decided to explode out of his chest cavity.

In the time that Jade had spent with Sherlock thus far, she had learned several important things about the man. Number one was to always be prepared for intelligent conversation. Number two was to find a way to ignore the attention Sherlock often received when he was in his element. And number three, perhaps the most important one of all, was to never allude to something that would send the man spiraling out of his comfort zone and into situations where he was at a loss for what to do. Which was precisely why Jade was currently refusing to think of their outing as a date. She figured, if she didn't think of it as one, she wouldn't slip up and refer to it as one, and then she wouldn't have to worry about sending the man she was going to dinner with into a full blown panic.

Of course, not thinking of it as a date when it was meant to be just that (if only as a cover, as Sherlock insisted) was much easier said than done. It had been in the back of her mind as she'd gotten ready and had moved rather firmly to the forefront of her mind the moment the knock had sounded at the front door. Her stomach dropped a bit as she absently smoothed down her hair and made her way to the foyer. She hadn't been exactly sure what to wear and had opted for a dress that, while certainly not meant for a gala event, was a bit dressier than she normally wore. Her heels clicked softly on the hardwood floor as she moved to the front door.

Jade had one last, fleeting worry that she was going to somehow screw this up. Either she'd misread the situation and would assume something that wasn't true or she'd say something that would turn the mood awkward with little chance of reprieve. Pushing the concern out of her mind, she opened the door and gave Sherlock a smile.

"You're right on time," she greeted him before arching one eyebrow slightly. "You are going to tell me what this is all about before we get there, aren't you?" She hadn't really asked specifics over text earlier. If nothing else, she figured his explanation would keep conversation flowing until they'd reached their destination.

Sherlock had not be expecting her to wear a dress. He didn't know what his mind had expected, considering the place that they were going to was rather nice, and...well, he hadn't actually told he that, but he alluded to it being a date type place. She had obviously taken the initiative to prepare herself accordingly. Sherlock's thoughts were wavering between surprised, appreciative, and something that he didn't even want to attempt to grasp more completely at the moment as he cleared his throat and offered her a tentative smile.

"Of course. No sense in you going into a situation unprepared," Sherlock said, extending his arm to her in a gentlemanly fashion. His gasp moved briefly down to her selected footwear and realized that walking to the cafe was pretty much out of the question now. But he could likely manage to flag down a cab. He was rather practiced at it, after all.

"There's a rash of odd poisonings going around. Food poisoning from the appearance of things, but oddly scattered for a place this size. I intend to see if I can spot anything out of ordinary in one of the nicer places that a case cropped up. This place seemed the least likely to simply be a result of poor hygiene or improper food maintenance."

If Sherlock had asked, Jade would have assured him that she could walk to the cafe in heels. She had certainly learned how to travel distances while dressed up in Purgatory. Hookers didn't wear flats, after all. Still, had she been given a choice, she might have opted for the taxi anyway. That was mostly because of the snow that was slowly falling from the sky though. It wouldn't be bad to walk in, peaceful even, if she were dressed for that kind of an outing. She wasn't.

She took his arm and listened as he explained the situation, locking the door behind them as he finished. A thoughtful gleam shone in her eyes as she looked up at him. "Could be the food delivery service," she pointed out as they headed toward the stairs. Not that she wasn't sure Sherlock hadn't thought of that possibility, but it made the most outright sense to her. If one place was delivering to several locations, and the product was bad, it was entirely possible.

"And you really should warn me ahead of time that the food I'm going to eat tonight might be poison," she pointed out, her tone teasing more than chiding. She flashed him a bemused smile. "Unless you've already worked out what meals are likely safe?"

"Unfortunately, it wasn't all delivered," Sherlock said. It was one of the things he'd checked when following up on Molly's info, and while some of the meals had been sent to the dorms, there was a share of them that were simply eaten in. The staggering of the dates, meals, and cafes had struck him, however, as having an underlaying pattern to it, but he couldn't put his finger on exactly how yet. But there was something familiar in the flow. "That's why were eating in. Best to cut out all possibility of a middle man in this circumstance," He said, glancing sideways at her as they walked down the stairs and out into the night.

"And I could have warned you," Sherlock said, a vaguely amused tone in his voice. "But then again, would you have agreed to come if I had told you right off that you could get horribly, horribly ill?" He asked before settling a hand over hers. "I don't intend on eating, anyway," He said before raising his hand to hail a cab.
