Who: Lois Lane and Charlie Crews
What: Using their voices to speak to each other over coffee XD
Where: Coffee shop
When: This evening
Warnings: Rambling? Will update if necessary.

Charlie was a little bit nervous about meeting Lois, only because he knew his social skills weren't quite up to par. Dani had made a point of pointing that out to him, often enough. He wasn't exactly self conscious, he was what he was and he wasn't going to apologise for it, but he was nervous. He felt his pulse in his throat, his palms were sweaty, but it wasn't enough to stop him from going,a nd he certainly didn't regret asking her to meet him.

He wanted to hear her voice, after all the silence and after talking about it. So he made his way to the coffee shop, but held off ordering. He considered ordering something for her, but opted not to try and guess what she might like. He didn't want to be wrong and order something she didn't like, and he didn't want to seem rude, ordering for himself, and not for her, so he leaned against the iron fence surrounding the outside patio of the coffee shop, and waited for her.

It didn't take Lois very long to get there. After all, coffee was involved. Plus, she had long since memorized the shortest routes to the coffee shops nearest the apartment buildings as well as her work.

And the guy she was getting coffee with, she hadn't really met him before. Sure, they'd talked over the PDAs a few times, but that was it, and her roommate probably would have freaked out on her if she knew that she was meeting someone for coffee that she just discovered spent twelve years in prison, even if he was framed.

There was a grin on Lois's face as she neared the coffee shop, the thought of coffee always did that to her, and it didn't take long for her to spot him. At least they had the little pictures to go off of on the PDAs. "Charlie, right?" she said, smiling a little more as she pulled off her sunglasses. "I'm Lois."

"Charlie, yeah. That's me. I'm Charlie," Charlie answered. He tended to repeat himself, when he was nervous. Or, when talking to a beautiful woman. "And you're Lois. The reporter." He nodded, smiling a dorky smile.

He shifted, moving to step in front of her to open the door to the coffee shop. He'd hold it for her, let her go in ahead of him. He had manners, for the most part. He was just a bit random, with his words.

"Thanks," Lois said simply, grinning as she walked into the coffee place. She wasn't used to people doing things like opening doors for her, but that never really bothered her anyway. Lois Lane was no damsel when it came to doors. Or, when it came to much of anything else for that matter.

"I'm pretty sure I've been single-handedly keeping this place in business," she mused as she moved towards the counter.

"You'll forgive me, if I give you a run for the title," Charlie smiled. He felt like a teenager, and it felt good. He didn't even feel guilty. Okay, maybe a little, but neither Jenn nor Dani was here, in this place. And it wasn't like he was making out with Lois. They were just getting coffee.

Just getting coffee. Right. He would just keep telling himself that. He'd been in prison for twelve years. Just getting coffee meant just that, just getting coffee. There was no hidden message in it, no secret agenda. It was just coffee.

"You must come at all the times I'm not here, then. Because I haven't seen you around here before." She gave him a quick smile before turning to order her summertime usual, an iced mocha coffee. Biggest size they had. Because that was Lois for you, hopelessly addicted to caffeine.

"So. How are you liking being able to talk again?" Really, it was just the first thing that popped into Lois's mind. She didn't do silence very well, so she tended to spend a lot of time filling said silence with babbling.

"Being able to talk again is amazing." Charlie nodded. "When I first went to prison, you know I was a cop. And the only inmates lower than a cop, are the child abusers. The guards and the other inmates either beat me, or forced me to fight every day. And for a long time I wouldn't talk. Didn't make a sound. But even then, you know. It was voluntary. Not like this." He shook his head.

"Yeah, sorry. If it makes you uncomfortable, I'll try not to talk about prison. It wasn't a good time." It wasn't even something he wanted to talk about. He'd rather forget about it, but that wasn't going to happen.

He ordered himself the same thing she ordered, because he didn't know what else to order. He hadn't been to the coffee shop before, but Lois didn't need to know that.

"Can't say I've ever done that to myself, but self imposed silence is probably a hell of a lot less insanity inducing than just... worldwide silence." With a shrug, Lois took the coffee as it was handed to her and took a sip before turning back to look at Charlie.

"And hey, if you want to talk about it it doesn't bother me. Actually, it doesn't really bother me either way." She then turned to start looking around the small shop. "Want to go grab a seat?"

"Yeah, let's grab a seat," Charlie nodded. He switched hands, with his coffee, and took a tentative sip. He didn't want to admit he hadn't had anything but regular coffee before, and he usually drank hot tea, when Dani had coffee.

"Over there?" he suggested, pointing with his free hand. There was an unoccupied booth by the window. "Or we could sit outside." He liked outside. Inside sometimes made him feel trapped.

"Outside works better, I guess," Lois said with a shrug before turning to start walking slowly towards the door. "Sometimes it gets just a little too loud in here. And sometimes it's too loud, accompanied by really bad music." Now, that wasn't to say the music wasn't actually bad, but for the most part Lois listened to classic rock. Coffee shops rarely played any classic rock.

Charlie nodded. "Yeah. Outside is better, all around." He smiled and led the way, again rushing ahead to hold the door open for her. He let her lead the way to the table, and sat, thankfully under an umbrella. Though he preferred outside settings, he also burned easily and tried to avoid the direct heat of the sun.

"So what have you been keeping yourself busy with around here?" Lois asked him once she had gotten herself situated, then took another drink of her coffee. Really, she had no idea how people survived without the stuff, mocha or not. Or how people could just not like it. It was what kept her going during the day, like a battery she had to change out often.

But hey, at least she was somewhat thankful that there actually were things like coffee shops around here. This whole... other world thing, it could have taken a very different turn and it could have ended up being something like a cave in the middle of nowhere.

"Reading, mostly. Jogging." He shrugged. "I go on with the police department, though it's not exactly what I'm used to." He tilted his head. "Aside from the lack of beatings daily, it's not much different than prison." He shook his head. Why couldn't he just shut up about the whole thing? He really didn't want to talk about it, and yet he kept bringing it up.
