WHO: Amy Pond-Williams & Rory Williams
WHAT: Amy's pregnant, and Rory is confused. Hilarity ensues.
WHERE: Amy & Rory's flat
WHEN: After this
RATING: PG
STATUS: In Progress

Rory was used to skimming the message boards during his break, but the last thing that he'd expected to see was Amy talking about having pregnancy brain and not knowing where she was. While confusion and panic had been his first reaction, a few responses and he'd almost grasped the situation that he'd stumbled into. Sending off a few quick texts in order to make sure that his shifts at the clinic would be covered and that the Doctor was aware of the current change, Rory had headed immediately back to the flat.

Well, immediately was a bit of an overstatement. He might have hurried back to the building, but Rory took a great deal of time getting to their flat. And even when he managed that, he paced back and forth, lingering in front of the door for a long moment, attempting to prepare himself for what he'd be faced within the flat. The last time he'd seen Amy in that situation, it had seemed perfectly normal to him. It was all the part of a five years down the road fantasy, and while she seemed to still believe that she was part of that...or actually was part of it in some reality where things had worked out that way, it was going to take him awhile to get used to this situation.

Taking a deep, steadying breath, Rory opened the door and stepped into the flat. "Amy?" He called, closing the door behind him. "Everything all right?"

What a stupid question. If everything was all right, she would have been tucked up in her kitchen, in their house in Upper Leadworth, waiting for Rory to come home from the surgery and counting the minutes till she went into labour. Every part of her felt swollen and ill used, and this flat - while nice enough - was definitely not their house. All the clothes in the drawers would have fit her when she was still skinny and running about the universe with the Doctor and Rory and having adventures. But she'd put that behind her. Hadn't she?

Amy levered herself slowly off the sofa, heading towards the door in a walk she refused to think of as a waddle. "Depends on how you look at things," she said, relaxing a little when she saw him. He didn't have the ponytail, but other than that he looked like the Rory she knew and loved.

"Oh, wow," The words were practically an automatic response to seeing Amy in the state that she was currently in and knowing all too well that this was no dream. Or maybe it was. That was impossible to say entirely, but as he stepped forward, eyes slightly wide as his gaze flickered between her and her swollen abdomen, it certainly didn't seem like a dream. "I mean... Just... Wow." The nervous laughter that kicked in as a reflex was hastily covered up with a cough as he looked up at her, offering her a sheepish smile.

How to explain this, exactly?

"Things are... Things are... Good. Good. Complicated. But good," And Mister Eloquent strikes again. "Did you wake you like this, or...?" Stupid questions, all very stupid questions, since he knew her answer was basically going to be along the lines of asking if he'd gone daft and telling him to spit it out already, but he still felt the need to ask.

All right, he definitely wasn't expecting to see her in this state, and the look on his face made that more than obvious. Amy huffed out a breath and stopped a couple of feet away from him, watching his face carefully.

"Right. Care to elaborate on that a bit, Rory?" She folded her arms, in the new posture which meant resting them on top of her very large belly, and eyed him. "I woke up like this, yeah. And the day before, and the day before that, and the day before that. But all of those days I was in Leadworth. Not -- whereever this is. Colligo, you said."

"Well. The basics?" Rory said, obviously hesitant to really explain as he recognized that look. That was a bad look. But of course, if he hemmed and hawed here for several minutes trying to figure out a way to break this gently, it would go from the bad look to the dangerous look. And dangerous look Amy was bad enough when she wasn't being fueled by raging gestation hormones.

"We're trapped. This city? It's some sort of pocket universe or parallel universe...or paradox...or something. Nobody's really sure. But we can't leave. People only come and go on the whims of the person in charge, and... Up until yesterday, you weren't..." He trailed off, waving his arms towards her swollen abdomen, his eyes practically bugging out of his heads.

"We only just got married."

Maybe it was because Amy had had a while longer traveling with the Doctor, or because she'd gotten to know River Song better than Rory had. But this wasn't nearly as confusing as it might have been. "Spoilers," she said, suddenly wanting to laugh. "Maybe we did. But I say we've been married for five years. And you can stop looking at me like that, I'm not going to explode." Except possibly metaphorically.

Amy thought back over what he'd said, sighing. "Really trapped? And the Doctor hasn't found a way out of it yet? Must be bad." Because despite everything they'd been through, she still had that almost childlike faith that the Doctor could solve every problem and get out of every tight spot.
