Entry tags:!closed, marian of locksley, robin hood

Who: Marian and Robin
What: Proving he isn't going mad. Well attempting to
When: Just after his post
Where: Library
Rating: TBD

Marian didn't waste time in pulling her boots over her jeans and throwing her jacket on over her shirt and tying the belt on it tight. Grabbing her PDA and her purse, just in case, she shoved both in her pocket before taking her keys and leaving, locking the door behind her. She took off at a run after then. Something wasn't right with her husband and she wasn't about to leave him at the library on his own for too long. She was lucky that she was fit enough to run fast without having to stop. She dodged people and cars as she made her way there and when she was just down the street she just about fell over.

What was he wearing? That...wasn't the clothing he had taken to wearing here. And his hair was shorter. As well as there being a distinct feeling of something...different about him. But she didn't stop running until she was in front of him. Giving him a smile, she took a moment to get her breath back.

"You okay?"

He did not know where he was, or what was happening. Was it possible that this was all a dream? It did not feel like a dream. He was well versed in what dreams, and nightmares, felt like. If not that, he had been certain it was someone's cruel trickery. Until she had spoken. He knew Marian's voice better than anyone's. Had heard it in his sleep every night since the day he had lost her. How could it be her? How could anyone recreate it so perfectly? His head was swimming with too many unanswered questions.

He sat upon the steps outside the library, waiting in anxious anticipation for whoever, or whatever, would find him here. His bow lay across his lap, his head bowed forward. Until he heard the sound of footsteps hastily approaching. He was on his feet in an instant, ready for an attack. And then he saw who it was racing toward him, and he stumbled backward up several steps in surprise. His bow clattered to the stone at his feet, unnoticed by him.

"Marian..."

She watched as his bow clattered to the floor and he moved back a few steps. Frowning, she reached out to touch his arm and took another step toward him. His wedding ring was gone, was one of the main things she noticed. That wasn't right, he would never part with that. Reaching up, she brushed her fingers through his short fringe and tilted her head.

"Robin, what's happened?"

But then it clicked. He looked different. He must have been sent home, and game back with no memory of being here before. Well that was slightly annoying.

"This is your first time here, isn't it?"

He couldn't react as she moved closer, he felt as though his feet were made of stone. All he could do was stare. It was Marian. She was alive. Wearing strange clothing he had never seen before, but...alive. He could not even begin to comprehend it. And then she touched him, and he flinched, startled from the spell that had frozen him in place.

"This is a dream." He said it mostly to himself, closing his eyes before slowly opening them again. Nothing had changed. "This is a dream," he repeated the words slowly. "And soon I will wake."

And yet, he didn't. The Marian of his dreams continued to speak, and he was powerless to stop himself responding. "What do you mean, my first time here? Where is here? What is..." He trailed off again, lost in simply looking at her. She was so beautiful. She was alive. His mind would not stop repeating those three words, over and over. He reached out a hand, fingers brushing hesitantly against her sleeve.

"It's no dream Robin."

She kept watching him, worry clear in her eyes. His questioned came quick before he trailed off, touching her sleeve softly. On instinct, she wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him in close. She didn't like to see him like this, even if she would rather he let her see than hide it all from her.

"You were a different you last night. Some people go home and get brought back, that must have happened with you." Pulling back a little, she looked up at him before brushing her thumb over his cheek. "If you don't remember here you don't remember..."

He didn't remember the marriage, or the time they've spent together.

He could barely react when she pulled him in to her arms, at first completely still. But there was no denying that this was real, any more. Not with the feel of her arms around him, the warmth of her body against his, the smell of her, something so distinctly Marian that he had never been able to name. Bringing his arms up, he wrapped them around her, pulling her even closer in a sudden and overwhelming feeling of hope, or joy, or something he couldn't quite name, his face buried in the space where her neck met her shoulder.

He lifted his head when she pulled back, but kept his hands holding her arms. Now that he had felt her, he did not think he could let go. What she said solidified it in his mind. She had no memory of her own death. What then did she remember? What had happened to her? "What do you remember, Marian? How long have you been here?" With another me? He felt cheated somehow, for having no memory of time spent with her.

"I've been here quite a while. Feels like years, but less than that."

She tilted her head, watching him. Something was odd in his eyes and she didn't like it. They weren't sparkling like they should and she suddenly felt overwhelmed by the determination to have them shining once more. After a moment she considered his first question.

"If you mean in general about you and this place, I remember going to bed with my husband and waking with him gone. If you mean before I came here after you proposed, when we were up in the tree. What about you?"

She just wanted to know what had changed him.

What she said was confusing. First, she spoke of him as her husband, suggesting she remembered their marriage, which was either when they were strung up and left to die, or as she lay dying. But then, she was telling him that the last thing she remembered before coming here, where ever here was, was when they had been in the tree, the day she had decided to go back to the castle. So much had happened since then, it felt an age ago.

Did that mean that they, she and this other version of him, had been married here? What sort of place was this, if they were free to do that? He frowned at her question, not sure where to begin. He looked down for a moment before once more meeting her gaze.

"A lot...has happened since that day." He couldn't even begin to think how best to explain it.

"I assumed as much given your reaction to me."

He said she was dead and all she wanted to know was what happened and when it happened. She could tell that it was a recent occurence in some way and the look in his eyes made her change her attitude and she just pulled him into another hug. Pressing a kiss to his cheek, in the most comforting way she could manage, she rubbed his back softly.

"Come on. I'll take you back to where we live."

He could not help but respond to her hold, holding her close for as long as he was able. Mere minutes ago, Marian had been dead. And now she was in his arms. It was almost more than his tired mind could comprehend.

"Where we live?" He questioned. "This place...where are we?" How could they have gone from being outlawed, or him, at any rate, to being able to live together? Regardless of her answer, he was hardly going to refuse going somewhere, anywhere, with Marian. He was however reluctant to relinquish any form of contact with her, and reached for her hand as they began walking.

"It's called Colligo. I don't understand much about it, but it brings people from various points in time."

She smiled as he took her hand, squeezing it gently. She wasn't complaining, didn't mind holding his hand as they walked. Glancing around, she tried her hardest not to question him. Just not yet, he needed some time to take all this in before she asked him to talk.

"You'll be more comfortable than at camp, proper bed for once."

"Colligo..." he mused aloud. "Do you, or anyone know where it is?" He had never heard of it before, and he considered himself well enough versed in geography.

"I haven't been to..." He cut himself off again, realising she would have no concept of what he was going to say. She didn't know that he hadn't been back to camp for months. That he had been sleeping, or Much would likely say passed out, on a boat, on and off, for months. Until he had found himself here.

"How did we get here? What do people do?"

"No, no one seems to have any sort of idea."

She raised her eyebrow as he once again trailed off. He was keeping more than usual from her but she was still determined to wait. She had considered letting him walk through the park together but she really just wanted to get him somewhere they could talk.

"I'm not sure. And most people work. I work in a stable, and...well you were working in a store that sells weapons."

How could that be? The thought that people could be content to live in a place and not even know where it was was a strange one. Though he supposed, if he, or some version of him, at least, had been here with Marian, that would be reason enough to be content.

He thought that maybe he should be paying some kind of attention to their surroundings as they walked, but he couldn't take his eyes off her. She was so perfect. She always had been, but now...well, the fact that she was actually here seemed miracle enough.

"No," he answered when she mentioned jobs. "I meant, have people tried to leave yet. Though you must enjoy working in a stable."

"A lot of people have, but no one has managed it."

She smiled when he agreed with the idea of the stables before leading him into the building. Fishing in the pocket of her jacket, she pulled out her keys and opened the door. Smiling at him, she signalled for him to walk in before she followed him and closed the door behind him.

"So, where to start?"

"And so they are content to remain here?"

At her gesture he preceded her in to the room she had opened the door of, walking in several steps, glancing around before turning back to face her. He set his bow down, leaning it against the wall adjacent to the door. He wasn't entirely sure what she meant by that, though she likely had a lot of questions. As many as he did, if not more.

"What time did I come from...when I was was here before?" It was a strange sentence, but that was how he had taken her meaning of what happened.

"Not everyone. Some of us just deal with it."

She felt slightly like a cornered animal when he only moved a few steps before facing her. Giving him a slight smile, she only moved once he questioned her. Her instinct was to take him to the couch to sit with her, but she didn't want to make him do anything he didn't want to. Besides, it felt strange in a way. He was Robin, her husband, but at the same time he wasn't. Sitting down, she tucked her feet under her before looking back to him.

"Just after the Sheriff pretended he had been arrested by King Richard. When I nearly..."

When she nearly married Guy. She hadn't even thought about that in the time she had been here.

"When you nearly married Gisborne," he finished. "That was so long ago." It was an almost ironic thought. He had nearly left at that time, nearly walked away from everything, over her marrying Gisborne. And now, back where he came from, he had lost her. He would take her being married to someone else over her being dead in a heartbeat.

Following her, he sat on the opposite end of the couch. He felt almost as if she was hesitant to be near him, which he hated. She was suddenly alive again, and all he wanted was to be close to her. "After the day in the tree," He knew she would understand, since they had discussed that was when she'd come from, "You went back to the castle. You discovered the Sheriff's plot to travel to the Holy Land to kill the King. You tried to kill him, but he stopped you."

He knew where this would lead, but knew she would want to know. All he could do was say the words without letting himself dwell on them. As though it was a story about someone he didn't know. "He and Gisborne took you with them. We followed, but..." He shook his head. There was too much detail, too much she didn't know. "You got in Gisborne's way. You saved the King. But I was too late to save you." He could scarcely meet her gaze as he said it.

The moment he sat next to her she turned so she was facing him on the couch. She didn't want to touch him, not yet. After all, he was starting to talk to her and the last thing she wanted to do was distract him. So she listened and she watched. And every single word that came from his mouth made her stomach drop further and further. And the moment he said he couldn't save her she felt her eyes well up. And it wasn't sadness over the thought of her losing her own life.

It was sadness at the thought of leaving him.

"Robin..." she said quietly before taking his hand. But that wasn't enough so she quickly closed the gap and hugged him close to her.

He returned her hold almost desperately, wrapping his arms around her and holding her as close as he dared. He closed his eyes against the pain of the memory of that time. "I have been over it in my head again and again," he told her quietly, now that he wasn't looking at her, or she at him. "If I had just gotten there sooner, if I had been faster.."

Pulling back he took her hands in his, looking at her once more. "We were married. Just before you died, we were married."

"You shouldn't focus on what if's. It happened, and I am really sorry that I had to leave you like that."

She kept his hands in hers, smiling a little when he said that. That sounded like something they would do, she couldn't like about that. Squeezing his hands, she then brought his left hand up to kiss right over where his ring would have been here.

"Like to leave things to the last minute, don't we?"

He understood what she was saying, and knew that she was right. But it was easier said than done, when you had actually lived through it. Watching her slip away from him was an image that would haunt him to the end of his days, he knew.

He continued to watch her as she kissed his hand, still amazed that he was even getting this chance. Even if this all did turn out to be a dream, he would take it while he had it. It beat the nightmares.

He laughed softly at what she said, nodding. That was something of an understatement. "It was your plan. Find Lardner, save the King, and then get married. It just didn't work out quite how we wanted it to."

"I stick to my plans," she said with a laugh.

Dropping her forehead to his, she smiled at him before hugging him once again. Sighing softly, she felt guilty for the first thought that entered her head. But that didn't mean she stopped herself saying it.

"How about we clean you up, and I'll make something to eat?"

"I have noticed that," he smiled.

Being in her arms felt so good. Being this close to her again was incredible. He could think it over and over, and it wouldn't change the fact that it was amazing.

At her suggestion, he smiled, somewhat amused, but understanding why she made the point. "I'm not particularly hungry, but it has been a while since I've had a bath."

"I can tell," she said with a laugh before pulling away and standing, tugging on his hand. "I'm use to a Robin who washes pretty much every day."

Once he was standing, she took him to the bathroom, ready to explain what he would have to do. After all, a shower would be easier and quicker for him and she always prefered one unless she was relaxing.

"They have these things called showers now. It's...like a warm waterfall, I suppose. But if you would rather a bath I can draw you one."

"I can take a hint," he laughed. It was easy to forget everything else when he had Marian right here with him.

"That sounds fine. A warm one will be a nice change." Once she had explained how it worked, he couldn't help but admire how convenient it was, and she had left, he took off his newer, and quite dirty, clothes, placing them in the corner of the small room with his boots on top. The shower was amazing, in particular how hot the water was able to be.

Once he was clean, and had spent a bit of time simply enjoying the heat of the water on his tired muscles he turned it off and stepped out, picking up the towel Marian had left for him to use, wrapping it around his waist. It would be pointless to put his dirty clothes back on now.

Leaving the bathroom he glanced down the hall, hearing sound coming from another room, and moved to the doorway. "Marian, do you have any...clothes," he paused with a bit of a laugh, seeing that was exactly what she was getting.

She left him to it once she had explained everything to him, leaving a soft towel before walking out the door. It wasn't until after she heard the water running that she realisd she hadn't left him any clothing. She wasn't sure if he would be comfortable in the new clothing straight away, but she had to give him something clean to wear.

Moving to their bedroom, she tidied up a little before searching for something he could wear. She had just added jeans to the pile when she heard his voice, looking over at him.

The clothes instantly fell to the ground.

He frowned in concern when she dropped the clothes, unable to resist glancing over his shoulder for a second before focusing on her again, taking a few steps closer. There didn't seem to be any change from before. Barely any time had passed.

What was he staring at? Well that didn't really matter. He was wet, half naked and...had a fair few more muscles. And was that..."A tattoo?"

She had not expected that, and she also thought she should have said something other thatn that. And she should really close her mouth because she was sure she was gaping and that droplet of water that just ran down his stomach.

He looked down at his arm for just a moment when she questioned him. The cross on his arm was new, to her at least, he realised. It was over the scar left from the time she had stitched his arm when he had been shot by the arrow. At the time of getting the tattoo, that had no doubt held some meaning in his drink addled mind.

"Yeah, it's...yes" he answered dumbly, not quite ready to explain that much to her. Gods, the way she was staring at him. He couldn't remember the last time he had seen Marian look at him that way, though perhaps it had been that wonderful day in the forest before everything had gone so badly.

Before Marian knew what she was doing, she was by his side and running her fingers over the dark cross. Part of her mind thought that she probably shouldn't, it was far too intimate and she was unsure how he would feel about it. And then there was the confusing aspect that they were married here, and he had married her in the Holy Land, but...did that mean they were married?

"It's...interesting."

She didn't disapprove, far from it.

"Interesting," he repeated, a smile lifting the corners of his mouth at her chosen word. Her fingers running over his skin felt fantastic, and he would have been fine with her continuing.

"Is it...do you dislike it?" That was an odd thought. "I never thought I'd be hearing your opinion on something again..." That wasn't where he'd wanted the conversation to go.

Well that sounded a bit too enthusiastic. Looking up at him, she licked her lips before quickly pulling back. No, she didn't know his thoughts on this and didn't know what she should do. Clearing her throat, she looked to the abandoned clothes.

Since when had they become awkward around one another? She was obviously used to a different version of him (he still had trouble getting his head around that thought), and so had trouble with his presence now. Or at least, felt unsure around him.

When she looked at the clothes on the floor he moved forward, picking them up. "I'll just go get dressed. Thank you for these." Given her reaction to him with a towel around his waist, he was not about to make her more unsure of her reactions.

Taking the clothing, he went back to the bathroom, putting them on before running a hand through his hair. They felt different, but were comfortable. He glanced at his boots before dismissing them for now, leaving the room again with still bare feet and moving back to the room. Whether she was having difficulty dealing with this or not, he needed to be with her.

She watched him walk away before dropping to the floor, sighing softly. What was she doing? She didn't know how to act around him purely because she was unsure what she was allowed to do about this. When Robin walked back in, she gave him a smile and reached out to take his hand. After a moment, she sighed again and looked up at him.

He walked over to stand in front of her where she sat as she held out her hand, taking hers before lowering himself down to sit beside her.

"What you're allowed to do with me? Whatever you're thinking about can't be too objectionable," he joked before turning somewhat more serious. "Well, he's me isn't he. I mean, it's still me. And I'm him. I've just, come from further on in time. I haven't changed." A small voice in his head argued that since losing Marian he certainly had changed, but he ignored it. "And I know I would never be bothered being kissed by you. And I know, back then, I certainly didn't."

He smiled when she squeezed his hand, returning the gesture. Reaching out with his free hand, he brushed the hair back from her face, fingers lingering by her cheek. "If this is strange for you, there's nothing you have to do. I just feel blessed to have you back."

She laughed softly, looking down when he mentioned that he certainly wouldn't have cared then about her kissing him. She knew that very well. When he squeezed her hand back, she looked back to him and smiled softly at his gentle touch. Reaching up, she placed her hand over it before lacing their fingers together and bringing his hand down to press a kiss to his knuckles.

He smiled, filled with an immeasurable joy simply at hearing her laugh. After months of grief, without her presence, it was the most perfect sound in the world.

He kept the hold on her hand as she leaned in to kiss him, more than happy to respond to it. He'd seen enough now to know this was no dream, but whatever it was, he hoped it didn't end any time soon. It would be too much to be sent back now.

Marian smiled into the kiss, leaning in a little closer so her lips pressed more insistently against his. Squeezing his hand, she let go and brought her hand up to his cheek before sliding it into his hair. Now that she had started kissing him she didn't mind or think about there being any difference between the Robin and the one who she had with her last night.

He was still her husband. It didn't matter when he came from in their life, it was still her Robin.

Eventually the kiss ended, but he stayed close, forehead resting gently against hers. He didn't know if there were two times that ran in parallel, if somewhere there was another version of him living his life, or if time had simply moved forward. He didn't understand how any of this worked, only that he never wanted to leave her again.
