Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:azazel, john winchester

Who: Azazel and John Winchester
What: A showdown
Where: Parking lot outside an abandoned building
When: Tonight
Warnings: Probably NWS. Violence, language, and character death.

The proposal had seemed impossible, and yet he had barely taken time to read through to the end. He didn't need time to think it over. He wouldn't second guess himself. He knew what had to be done, and he would do it. That he might find his way to heaven, to Mary's arms, was bonus. He would have done it if only to protect his boys, to offer them some measure of peace. He knew life would continue to test them, especially in this place called Colligo, and it pained him to know he would not be there to see them through another day. He would not see Sam married, he would not see any of the babies born. And yet, he did not question his decision, he only asked Elaine where he could find the bastard, the demon called Azazel, but known to him as Yellow Eyes.

His only hesitation was contacting his friends and loved ones. He thought better of it, and then did it anyway. He had abandoned his boys without a word for the last time. They deserved a good bye, even if it wasn't exactly proper. Or advisable. But they wouldn't stop him, he was on a mission, he accepted his fate, and most of all, he was doing it for them and the babies yet to be born.

"You have tormented my family for the last time," John's voice called out as soon as he had the demon in his sight. Azazel would see him as cocky, without a care for God's word, or the promise of the Almighty. Like Cas before him, he was willing to risk it all for the chance to take Azazel out of the picture. He sauntered in to full view, hands in his pockets. He carried a gun, but not the Colt. He carried a flask of holy water and a bit of salt, but in truth he didn't expect to get close enough to use any of it. He was on a kamikaze mission and he really just wanted to get it over with as soon as possible.

You didn't live several thousand years and end up an idiot. And Azazel was no idiot. He had a feeling that this confrontation, this particular night, was somehow going to go differently from how the last one had. While he didn't claim to have a direct line to God, he had spoken to Elaine a few times, and managed to also pick on to the emotions of the not-quite-general populace. He had known this wouldn't, couldn't, last, but he had made sure he made an impression while he was there. His one regret was that he wouldn't be able to continue his tutelage of the boy, Mordred, and watch him grow.

This could go one of two ways. He could feign ignorance, pretend he didn't know what was coming, and do as God, Elaine, wished. Or he could simply ignore the entire situation, and stick around - and force her hand. However, since his true Father wasn't exactly there and things had gone as planned back on Earth, there wasn't really a reason for him to stick around. Unlike the demon Crowley who wasn't from his world, he didn't care whether or not he lived to enjoy human material items.

And, in truth, he had a certain amount of fondness for Elaine...so he would let things go as she wished.

Thus, he pretended as though he didn't know what was happening, why this was occurring, as he stood with his hands in his pockets, a pleasant smile on his face while his bright yellow eyes watched the man approach. "On the contrary, John, I'm just getting started."

"No. It ends now." John took a step toward the demon. He could feel his heart beating, his pulse throbbed at every point. He was taking his last breaths, saying the last words he would ever say. He hated that Azazel was going to be the one to end him, again, but in a way it was poetic justice. The yellow eyed demon had shattered John's world so many times, the real poetry was in the fact he was going to send John back to Mary once and for all.

"I'm not going to stand by and watch you torment my grandchildren." John held his head up high and proud. "And we both know the only way you're going to leave them alone is if you're not here to see them at all." John had learned quite a lot about Hell's interest in his family while he was in the pit. He'd spent the equivalent of more than a hundred years on the racks. He'd seen, and heard, more than he should have. And he knew his blood line would never be safe, but destroying Azazel would at least give them a false sense of security.

Azazel was amused, for the most part. Honestly, did John think that he could kill him by…what, talking him to death? He held his hands out to either side, showing the eldest Winchester that he wasn’t holding any weapons, and took a step forward. He could appreciate this all coming full circle, but a part of him was almost disappointed that the reason for his being killed wasn’t a different Winchester, the one whom he had shaped and molded to become a vessel for his Father. Ah, well.

“If you think my death is going to stop my influence…you’re sadly mistaken. In fact, it may only affect them more, in ways you can’t begin to imagine at this time.” He smirked, then gave a shrug and tilted his head as he studied John. “Go ahead. I know you haven’t got the Colt, so…take your best shot so we can get this over with. I’ve got a few things to do before the night is over.”

"Way I see it, once you're back in the pit where you belong, my boys will move on. Ten to one they don't waste a single thought on your pathetic existence." John raised his hands out in the open. "But you're right, about the colt." He didn't have the gun that might kill Azazel, but he had a bigger weapon. He had the word of God backing him up. He just had to get Azazel to kill him to put it in motion.

He took a step forward, gaze steady and intense. He felt an odd sort of calm. He knew he was going to die, and in dying he would protect his children and his grandchildren, and he would return to Mary at last. He could feel nothing less than peace about his decision.

"I could have gotten it, but I'd rather finish you off with my bare hands. So much more satisfying to do it myself."
