WHO: Juno & Sam [info]fireinthesoul
WHAT: bored!Teenager is bored.
WHEN: Thursday afternoonish?
WHERE: The Roadhouse

It had only been a couple of days since she'd gotten there, but a couple of days was a long time for a teenager, with or without a baby on board. She'd been the center of attention for a minute, which was cool, but she'd kind of been relieved when the novelty had worn off and they let her fend for herself without someone hovering over her. After all, she was pregnant, not made of eggshells.

Sam had had his thing, whatever it was. Relationships weren't exactly her forte, so she'd tried to stay out of it, but she'd been a little worried. And then things seemed to mellow out again, so she'd let it go as one of those things that she'd understand when she was older and more mature. Or not. It was all good.

But she was bored. She might have resorted to playing with the jukebox, but there was something about treading on the sanctity of other people's tune-age that just didn't always fly. She wound up wandering after Sam again, thinking out loud. "Dude. Have you ever heard The Moldy Peaches?" Hooray for conversation starters, right?

Sam had finished an inventory of the bottled water, and sat at the bar with a bottle of coke in hand. He sipped the drink before looking at Juno. She looked nothing like Jess, but she reminded him of her in personality. He smiled a little smile and shook his head.

"Unless you mean letting peaches rot on the counter, I have no idea what you're talking about." His tone carried a lilt of amusement. The Moldy Peaches. Well, he supposed all the good names were taken, and bands these days had to be creative.

"You can actually hear peaches molding?" Juno parried, raising her eyebrows at him, "That's quite the talent. Do you have x-ray vision too?" She grinned.

"No, really, it's a band--which you've probably guessed. They're kind of anti-folk slash indie. Not super well known or anything, but kind of fun, in a whimsical sort of way. I have weird taste, I know. What sort of music are you into?"

"Anything that isn't classic rock, mostly." And it wasn't even that Sam didn't like classic rock. He did, as long as it wasn't the crap Dean listened to, which wasn't all crap but Sam was so sick if it he couldn't stand it any more. "Except I can't say I've listened to anti-folk slash indie," he added with a little smile. "But it sounds interesting. And with a name like Moldy Peaches..." He waved a hand, letting the gesture finish his sentence.

"You have to at least listen to it once, for curiosity's sake," Juno supplied, looking triumphant. "I wish I had my guitar here, I could play some for you."

"I'll have to remember to look them up, next time I'm at the CD store." Sam nodded. "There might be a guitar around somewhere. I'll ask Ellen. I think Bill plays a little. They might keep some strings in the back room." Sam pushed a hand through his hair. He thought of Cas, and was grateful to Juno for the distraction.

"That would be sweet," she said, ginning at him. She didn't have any older siblings of her own, but if she had, she imagined that they'd be as cool as Sam. Even if he did get a little overprotective if she got too close to the windows, or he hadn't seen her stuffing her face in a couple of hours.

"It's kind of weird, not having to go to school every day," she mused, sipping water through a straw from the giant plastic cup she had been carrying around with her since the coffee shop. "But I guess there not much of a school to go to until things go back to normal."

He could easily forget she was school aged, still. The pregnancy kind of over shadowed that, and she'd handled the situation so gracefully, it was easy to think she was older. "Yeah. I guess it's a decent enough school. What grade are you in?"

Sam scanned the main bar room. Ellen wasn't in sight, but Bill was sitting at the bar. Sam could just as easily ask him about a guitar. He'd do that, if there was a lull in the conversation, if he needed an excuse to get up and stretch his legs.

"I'm a junior," she said, "So, eleventh grade, I guess. I think I read somewhere that it's the most common year for students to drop out of high school, right when they're about to hit the downward slope."

She shrugged her shoulders, as if she were somehow exempt from the dropout category. It wasn't really in her nature to quit. "Not sure what I'm gonna do now, if I end up taking care of a kid, but I guess there's always daycare. Formula. Breast pumps." She shuddered exaggeratedly. "Of course, that's the least of my worries when there's a real, live zombie apocalypse going on out there."

"End up?" Sam repeated her phrase in reference to raising her kid. He hadn't considered that she might not even want to keep the child she carried. "The zombies will be dealt with, sooner or later, they'll be gone and life will go on." He left out the bit about Colligo messing with the transplanted residents. One thing after another, really, with very little, if any, down time between incidents.

"And then you'll have school and the baby to keep you busy." His eyes glanced at her stomach. Had she told him how far along she was? He didn't remember, but the size of her belly said she was a couple months, at least.

"Yeah. Four months down, five to go." Juno put a hand over her stomach, noticing his glance, but not at all self-conscious. She was starting to show, all right, but not quite far enough for anyone else to feel the kicking.

"I wasn't really planning on keeping it. I had this neat couple all picked out and everything." She shrugged. "The best laid plans, huh?"

Sam wondered where the father was, at least back home. He figured the guy wasn't in Colligo. Juno hadn't asked about him, so maybe he was in town. There was no way to know without asking, and Sam didn't know Juno well enough to dive in to potentially personal questions like that.

"Yeah, I know all about those best laid plans that just never really happen the way you thought. Do you want to keep the baby? I mean, I know you're young, but you could do it, if you wanted to. Or you could..." Sam let his voice trail off. He didn't even know her, and Colligo wasn't the kind of place to give someone what they wanted. Just because he and Cas had more or less hit a road block trying to figure out a way to have a child together didn't mean the first pregnant girl to show up showed up so they could raise her baby. Sam shook his head.

Juno just shrugged, her cheeks puffing out as she gave a pensive sigh. "I don't know, Sam," she said, "I mean, I'm really good friends with the dad, and all, but he's not here, and we're not even really together and..."

She gestured vaguely and turning her big brown eyes at the tall, dark haired hunter. "I'm in high school, man. We only ever did it one time, and ready or not, I'm a mom."

"You've still got some time to think about it." Sam reached for her hand, and gave a gentle but supportive squeeze. "My partner and I, we talked about adopting. We can't have kids together, mostly because he's a man, too. But both my brothers are having babies, and I guess I'm feeling the biological clock ticking, or whatever. Adoption is still on the table, but you know. Not a local." Sam shook his head. "Most of them are zombies right now, but even when they're not really zombies, they're zombies."

She smiled at Sam, her petite hand virtually swallowed by his. There were still a lot of things that didn't make sense about Colligo, but at least she knew she would have people looking out for her, whether she decided to keep the baby or not.

"So, tell me about Cas. What's he like?"

"Cas is pretty awesome. He's an angel, so there's that." Sam smiled, just thinking about Cas. He was so glad he'd talked to Cas, that he hadn't left things tense and unsaid between them. "But it's more than that. He's just an amazing individual. He's very simple in his wants, and he tends to put the needs of others before himself." Like right then, the reason Cas wasn't at the Roadhouse with Sam was because he was on a mission to kill Azazel, as much for Sam as for the whole thing with the zombies.

He left out the part about how forgiving Cas was, how understanding, even when Sam screwed up like he often did. Truth was he could go on and on about Castiel's virtues, and how much he loved Cas. "You'll like him, and he'll like you."

Juno nodded, squeezing his hand. She could tell that Sam really did love Cas, the way he spoke, the look that crossed his face. It reminded her of the way she sometimes felt about Bleeker, and it kind of hurt to think that she might never see him again.

"He sounds like a great guy," she said. She was just this side of suggesting they adopt her baby, but she really wanted to meet both halves of the equation. "I hope you're right. I know I can be kind of weird sometimes."

"Weird is good. Cas is kind of weird. So'm I, depending on who you ask." Sam grinned a little. He was just shy of suggesting she consider letting him and Cas adopt the baby, but that was such a bold thing to say, and ultimately he feared rejection. Besides, he had to deal with his addiction issues, and he really didn't want to take on a helpless child while Yellow Eyes was still out there.

"Let me guess," Juno said, "Your brothers? I think it's kind of a prerequisite for siblings to find each other weird. I don't have any brothers of my own--unless you count my bio-mom's replacement kids, but I never see them anyway. I do have a half sister though. She's five."

She paused and sucked in a deep breath, as if she were about to plunge into another flight of ideas, but she didn't. Instead, she just asked, "Do you think I could meet the rest of your family sometime? I've been thinking it might be nice to have some, I don't know, expectant mother chick flick bondage. I mean bonding!"

Sam nodded. "Dean was here last night, but he wasn't in a social mood." He shrugged rolled his head back and forth on his neck, and drew his shoulders up until his neck popped. "He's older than me, and he's having twins. Well, Claire's having the babies. Adam's my other brother, he's younger. His girlfriend isn't much older than you." Sam thought it might be good for Dawn to have someone else around her own age, someone she could possibly relate to.

Juno grinned. It was kind of badass, when he did that, but at the same time, he was totally casual and down to earth. She liked him. "Yeah," she said, "I think I talked to Dawn, a little bit. She's with Adam, right? The suave doctor brother?"

She had to laugh, because Dawn had told her Adam had empathy mood swings as often as Dawn did.

"Suave?" Sam arched a brow, and his mouth curled up in an amused smile. He shook his head. "Yeah, that's the one. I don't know if I'd call him suave, though. He's really kind of geeky." Sam considered himself kind of geeky too, so it wasn't exactly an insult.

"I think you have to be kind of geeky, to become a doctor," Juno said, "But then, everybody has something they geek out about. Music, comic books, science. Guns & Ammo." She shrugged. "My dad's a total Heating & Air Conditioning buff."

"Computers is my thing. Are my thing?" Sam frowned, unsure which form of the verb would be correct. He shrugged it off. "I was a kid when computers really hit the market. We were always on the road, and I made my dad buy me one anyway. I lugged that thing across the country and back a hundred times." He smiled a little at the memory. That computer had been more important to him than clothes back then.

"And to think, they just keep getting smaller, and smaller, but all the while, you can fit more and more junk on 'em!" Juno grinned.

"I think half the world would probably be lost if we took away their iPhones, and their PDA. Sad, huh? Next we'll all get cybernetic implants like some weird anime. Or the Matrix."

Juno laughed with him. She laughed so hard her sides hurt, and she clutched at her ribs with one hand while grabbing onto Sam's arm with the other. It didn't even matter that she had no clue what was so funny about Busty Asian Beauties. Seeing Sam a little less broody, even for a minute, made her happy.

"I know, right?" Juno enthused, her cheeks pink from being all scrunched up and smiley. "Where have I been all your life?!" She was joking, of course. She was far from thinking she was God's gift to Colligo, but it never hurt to have a little fun. "Even zombie hunters have to chill out sometime."

"All work and no play..." Sam let the words trail off. His glaze drifted to the bar, where Bill had been sitting just a few minutes earlier. he was gone, but a silver flask stood where he'd been. Sam narrowed his eyes at it, thinking it looked very much like the one he'd found in the bathroom, the one that had demon blood in it.

"Hold that thought." He couldn't just leave it there, for someone else to find. If they realised what it was...Sam picked it up casually, noted his initials carved into the face of the flask just like the other one he'd found. Bill's glass was still there on the bar, Sam took it too, and turned away, as if he was just cleaning up the bar.

He disappeared into the kitchen, but found it too crowded to allow him to flush the blood down the sink. He slipped the flask in his pocket and approached Bill about his guitar. He carried the instrument out to Juno, and hoped his discomfort didn't show too obviously.

"I believe you were looking for one of these?" Sam smiled.

Juno was all smiles when Sam brought out the guitar, making gimme hands and shifting in her seat to accommodate the guitar and her modest but ever growing baby bump.

"You're the best, Sam," she said, proceeding to check and see that the instrument was in tune and tinkering around a little as she tried to refresh her memory of the Moldy Peach songs she'd been practicing. "I'm not gonna have room for it much longer, am I?"

Sam sat down on the floor next to her. "Doesn't mean you can't play, just means you'll have to be more creative." He dropped his hand to his side, fingers hitting the flask in his pocket. He closed his eyes, took a breath, then reset his focus on Juno. "So let's hear it, then." He grinned at her, trying to ignore the pull of the blood.
