WHO: Sam Winchester and Parker
WHAT: Crowley locked Sam up for his own good. Parker is busting him out.
WHEN: Not long after this.
WHERE: Crowley's casino.
RATING: TBD
STATUS: In Progress

Despite the way she sometimes acted, and the fact that she didn't understand most social situations very well, or how to blend in with normal society unless someone wrote out a script for her beforehand, Parker was not actually an idiot. There was no way on this planet, or any other she might be on, that she had any intention of busting Sam out of his improvised jail cell without Crowley's permission. Not only would the demon know she was there the second she even tried it but, well, to be quite honest Parker liked Crowley. He was nice to her, in his own way, and he looked out for her. That saying about not biting the hand that feeds you? Yeah, Parker believed it.

That wasn't to say Sam was a bad guy. He seemed nice enough. But Parker's loyalties weren't easy to obtain and, so far, he didn't have them. Crowley did and so she waited for word from him before heading out for the jailbreak. It wasn't as much of a challenge when the guy (demon, whatever) that was responsible knew what was happening but Parker knew that wasn't going to last. Crowley would make things interesting for her, she was sure of it.

As she dropped through the airduct into the hallway outside the room in question, she was proven right.

Lasers lined every section of the corridor, zigzagging back and forth in a seemingly chaotic rotation. There was the low hum from power source - a panel on the wall about halfway down the hallway and protected by even more lasers that formed a veritable grid in front of it - and the sound of Parker's heartbeat is it began to increase with excitement. Slowly the thief smiled, her grin a pleased one with just a touch of mischief. Cracking her neck in one direction, then the other, she stretched her arms over her head. Then she launched into a series of handsprings, flips, kicks, and somersaults that ended when she reached the other side and, more importantly, the locked door.

Crouching in front of the lock, Parker studied it for a split second. The lock wasn't very complicated. No, the hard part was going to come with getting both herself and Sam past those lasers again. Or at least getting close enough to the control box to disable them for a few seconds. Mind already considering the challenge, the blonde unlocked the door with a simple twist of a hairpin. She rose to her feet and pushed it open. A quick glance around and she spotted Sam.

"The building's going to explode in thirty seconds!" she all but yelled, a sudden expression of pure terror washing over her. A split second later she broke into a grin, snorted, and shook her head. "Ha!" she exclaimed as she turned on her heel and motioned for him to come on. "That never gets old!"

Sam had been locked in a panic room before. Bobby's reinforced capsule of a room was way more elaborate than Crowley's set up, but then Crowley's room served a different purpose. After the demon trapped him inside, Sam spent the first hour or so screaming and beating on the walls, looking for any weakness that might let him escape. He finally settled and sent messages out to Cas and Claire.

Cas hadn't replied, and that raised red flags in Sam's mind. What if he couldn't reply? What if he was hurt? He had tried to reassure Sam that zombies couldn't hurt him, but Sam knew other things could. His conversation with Claire helped keep his mind off the various scenarios that might keep Cas from replying.

And then there was the new girl, the pregnant girl whose name he didn't even know, who managed to hole up in the coffee shop after the soldiers at the library kicked her out. Talking to her and coordinating her rescue with Eames helped too. But the underlying fact that he hadn't heard from Cas worried him.

He had just sent another message out when the door burst open, and Parker was there. Crowley had ordered her to kill him at one point, and now she was saving him from Crowley's panic room. Sam pushed all those thoughts right out of his mind, for the moment, to focus on the petite blonde in front of him.

"Hey, I've been in buildings that were about to explode," he replied, trying to be casual. She'd startled him, he'd jumped when she came in yelling her warning.

"If you say so," Parker replied with a grin over her shoulder at him. Pausing as they neared the lasers, she held up her hand. "Hang on. Let me take care of this." Looking back down the hallway, she turned so she was facing the panel on the wall ten feet or so into the maze of lasers. Yanking on her ponytail to tighten it firmly, she dove headfirst through the first section of criss-crosses and did a tumble under the second section. Sliding on her back against the floor, she stopped when her feet touched the wall then slowly contorted her body until she was able to stand up right in front of the control panel.

"Jackpot," she said under her breath as she pulled out the same hairpin she'd used to lock the door. Twisting it some more until it was perfectly straight, she watched the grid of flashing, buzzing lasers for a second then slid the point of the pin through one of the small gaps and pressed the button on the panel.

As the lasers disappeared she turned back to Sam. "We've got forty-five seconds to get off the floor while it reboots," she told him. "This time I'm not joking." Already she was moving toward the stairs in lieu of the air duct. It might be a bit slower but trying to crawl through ductwork with someone Sam's size really just wasn't feasible.

Sam stood in the doorway. He couldn't have moved for a moment, even if he wanted to. He had no idea really what Parker did, what she could do. What she did just then, well. Sam was more than impressed. He would have told her so, if he could find the words.

But then she was talking, and telling him they had 45 seconds to get gone, before the lasers were reactivated. He had no idea how she'd done what she did, but he wasn't going to waste time just then trying to figure it out. He didn't know Crowley was aware of the break out, or that he's set the lasers up because he knew Parker would appreciate the challenge (and the practice). As far as Sam knew, this was a good old fashioned break out. After all, Parker had refused to carry out the hit on Sam when Crowley ordered it.

Sam propelled himself forward, following Parker. His mind was still reeling from what he'd seen her do. She was amazing. Sam had a new found respect for Parker. He just hoped she hadn't busted him out to lead him somewhere else; he would have followed her right into the path of zombies right then.

The casino was zombie free, but of course Sam had no way of knowing that. Parker only knew it because she worked there and had hung around after the outbreak. Sure, Crowley had entertained himself with the undead for a bit but he'd got bored after a while. There hadn't been a zombie in the place since.

The elevator door slid open and Parker ushered Sam inside, pressing the button to close the doors then the one for the lobby. As it began to move downward, she slid her hands into the pockets of her jacket and gave Sam the once over. "Castiel better not come after Crowley for this," she said suddenly. "I know you two are all..." She got an uncomfortable look on her face and gave a little wriggle. "But Crowley said he locked you up for your own good so no getting your angel boyfriend to come after him."

The fact that Castiel was going to most likely be the one using the Colt to shoot Azazel was the only real reason for the warning. She knew Sam probably wouldn't understand but that wasn't her problem. He'd figure it out or he wouldn't.

"Cas won't." Sam shook his head. He wasn't really thinking about Cas or Crowley right then. "How did you...I mean. I knew you were good, but that?" A lock of hair fell over his forehead, he reached up to push it away. He just sort of looked at Parker, not quite staring mindlessly, but pretty close. He finally managed to formulate a thought and say, "That was amazing."

He felt like a schoolboy. He could have a crush on Parker. Nothing like his feelings for Cas, it wasn't like he was thinking about kissing her or anything like that. But he had a new respect for her, and he really was impressed by her acrobatic moves to avoid the lasers.

"I guess this is twice you've saved me." She hadn't so much saved him the first time as refused to kill him, but it amounted to the same thing, more or less.

Her brow furrowed in mild confusion as Sam spoke. It took her a second to figure out what he was talking about. Not when it came to saving his life twice. She knew what he meant then, but the stuff before. She shifted a little at the look he was giving her and stuffed her hands into the pockets of her jacket to keep from fidgeting too much.

"Oh!" she suddenly exclaimed as realization dawned on her. The stuff with the lasers. Normal people weren't used to seeing things like that. Right. Duh. She shrugged slightly and tossed an impish grin his way.

"It wasn't hard," she answered. She wasn't trying to play cool, although it might seem that way. It honestly just wasn't hard for her to do those sorts of things. "You just have to determine the trajectory of the lasers, analyse the angles when the lasers reach their target, then coordinate your movements accordingly." Parker spoke as though it was the easiest thing in the world. Which, for her, it was. She couldn't explain how she instinctively knew how to do those things. She could just do them, so she did. Yes she'd honed them over time but even as a girl she'd been a natural at it.

Glancing at the display of floor numbers that illuminated as the elevator passed by each one, Parker suddenly questioned, "You want to take our chances with the zombies or gravity?" Because if they were going to leave the elevator before reaching the main area of the casino, they needed to do it now.

"I don't have a weapon to put the bastards down," Sam said. He'd be willing to take his chances, but he wasn't willing to bargain for Parker's life. "How did you get to me, anyway?" Lasers not withstanding. He'd seen how she evaded them, and her description of it made it sound as easy as playing pool.

Sam had been raised to fight. He'd held his first loaded gun at age three. He hadn't taken to it quite as well, or as enthusiastically, as Dean, but the drills he was forced to practice made him a decent shot. He could fight, both with weapons and without. But tumbling through a battlefield of lasers? Sam knew it wasn't as easy as Parker made it seem.

Parker gave a faint shrug at his answer and stopped the elevator. She next pressed the button to take them to the top floor and, as the lift began moving upward instead of down to the lobby, she crossed to the back of the eleavtor. Pushing in one of the panels on the far wall, she hauled out a duffel bag filled with some of her supplies. She actually had one hidden on every elevator in the casino, just in case. After all when your job was to rob people who had just pulled a quick con, you never knew what you might need, and carrying around a giant black bag made it tough to blend in when following someone.

Unzipping it, she began answering his question as she double-checked she had everything they'd need. "I was already in the building," she answered honestly enough. Peering up at him from her crouched position in front of the bag, she pulled a harness out and stood up. She stepped directly up to Sam, fitting him in the harness as she kept speaking.

"If I'm not here, I'm at Cas'." She paused. "My Cas, not yours. I'm not having sex with your Cas. That would be weird."

Once sure the harness would fit him, she pulled it off and threw it back into the bag. Just as she picked up the bag, the elevator doors slid open and she grinned over her shoulder at Sam. "We'll head to the roof," she explained. "The zombies might be getting smarter but they haven't learned how to fly yet."

"You're not...you're not serious." Sam hadn't said much in the elevation, because he'd been listening to her. His mind hadn't exactly processed what she was planning. But after her laser display, he shouldn't have been surprised at the idea of her repelling down the side of a building. it was the idea of himself repelling down the side of the building that caused his palms to start sweating.

"You and...I thought you were with that other guy. Eliot." Sam figured he'd focus on something else, and try not to think about the task ahead. He was a hunter, not a mountain climber. He didn't even like being up so high, and the thought of going gown made him feel half sick.

Why did people always say that? Of course she was serious. Parker didn't think she sounded like she was joking. Not to mention she rarely joked about things like repelling down sides of buildings. It wasn't very funny most of the time and it was something she took seriously. Or at least as serious as Parker tended to take things.

She didn't understand why he was changing the subject but she didn't see much point in not going with it. So as she led him to the stairwell that would put them on the roof, she focused on what he'd said about Eliot and simply went over the mental checklist she had to make sure they had what they needed for a quick escape.

"I said I'm having sex with Cas. We're not together. And Eliot and I are..." She struggled for a word to describe something she wasn't sure she quite understood herself. "Complicated." Yes, that worked. They were complicated. Because there were feelings involved, feelings that Parker tried her best not to pay attention to simply because she had no real idea of how to deal with them. Sighing as she shoved open the door to the stairs and began climbing up them, she continued almost without realizing she was still speaking.

"We're part of a team that's more like family and he asked me for a date and I said yes but I don't even know how to date. And I have weird thoughts and feelings and just... bleh." She shivered at the aforementioned thoughts and feelings, even if a small part of her was grinning at the thought of Eliot despite how much possibly being with him took her out of her element.

Opening the door to the roof, she looked back to Sam and held out the harness for him to put on. "Keep your elbows tucked in when we jump unless you want to shatter your arm if it hits a ledge." She grinned at the thought, snorting softly as though finding it funny in a way that only Parker would.

"I get that." Sam nodded. He understood complicated. He also understood the sense of family that came with working closely with someone. Ellen and Jo were like family, and Bobby. Sam felt a pang of homesickness, for missing Bobby, but he swallowed it back down. He had other things to think about at the moment.

He considered asking about the date, but bit his tongue. He could tell the subject was awkward for her, and he wasn't exactly the best person to discuss the virtues of dating.

He took the harness, and after debating which way to put it on, he pulled it over one leg then the other and hoped he had it configured right. He'd hate to have to ask Parker for help getting it on.

"Arms tucked, got it." He managed to get the harness on all by himself, and felt a little smug and a bit proud of that fact. He pulled his arms in to his chest. He really didn't want to lose an arm, or a leg, or his head, or anything. "This thing have a parachute built in?"

Attaching two ropes to the hooks that were secured to the roof for whenever Parker wanted to go repelling, the blond threaded one through her own harness then turned to Sam with the other. She snorted at his question, grinning up at him.

"Pfft. That wouldn't be very fun," she replied as she attached the rope to his harness before giving a surprisingly strong tug to make sure it wouldn't come loose. Something told her if she got Sam killed during his breakout, people might get mad. Double-checking he'd strapped himself in properly, she had to admit she was a little impressed when she realized he had. Normally with beginners she had to help in some way but, so far, he seemed to have it well in hand.

"The average human free falls at an average of 53 miles per second," she explained as she began tightening the buckles on his harness to ensure they'd stay put. "The actual act of free falling lasts for about 3.5 seconds before air resistance becomes a factor and slows you down long enough for the rope to catch up." Once she was sure the harness was snug enough it wasn't going to slip, she began buckling her own.

"Someone your size is going to fall faster than someone my size and it's going to take at least three seconds for me to catch up. But I'm not positive you're going to jump and I need to be down there first so you don't break a leg when you land."

She paused and flashed Sam a wide grin. "That means you're going first, shortstack. And the ledge is that way."

"Yeah. it's not the fall that kills, it's the sudden stop." Sam shook his head. His palms were sweating, and his heart thudded in his chest. He could literally feel it in his throat. He didn't exactly like heights. He could handle being up this high, but looking over the ledge? Yeah. He wasn't too thrilled about the idea of jumping.

"We should have taken our chances with the zombies." Sam swallowed hard. He had a feeling Parker was going to push him if he didn't go on his own. He moved a step closer, and tried to keep his gaze focused outward. The rope would keep him safe, the rope would keep him safe...

"Here goes nothing," Sam closed his eyes and pushed off. The rush of the air as he broke through it was intoxicating. Sam opened his eyes, but the visual of the ground rushing toward him made him dizzy, and he closed them again. Keeping his arms tucked in proved difficult; he wanted to let his arms out and emulate the sensation of flying. he fought it, because he didn't want to lose an arm along the way.

He jumped. Parker was surprised. She was all but positive he was going to argue with her to the point that she was going to have to push him off the roof. However that clearly wasn't the case and she had to admit, she was impressed. Grinning, she peered down at him and counted backwards from three. Then she took a few steps back, picked up her duffel bag and secured it to her harness, and finally leapt headfirst off the roof.

The wind screamed in her ears as she soared toward the pavement below. Keeping an eye on Sam, she loosened her own rope just enough to increase her speed a bit more and when they were somewhere near halfway she caught up with him. A heartbeat later she was sailing past him thanks to a lifetime's worth of experience. Once she reached the bottom she immediately unclipped her harness and dropped the four or five feet fully to the earth.

Hearing a shuffling behind her, Parker yanked out the handgun tucked one of the pockets of her duffel bag, spun on her heel, and shot the zombie that was rushing toward her directly in the face. Another shot, grateful for the silencer so as not to attract more of the creatures, and then she was turning back in time to see Sam nearing the end of his drop.

"Fall with the harness or it'll snap your spine like a twig!" she called out, raising her voice enough so he could hopefully hear her. He was less than ten feet over her head but she knew how deafening the wind could be. And it was pretty important that he did hear her because Parker was pretty sure if Sam broke anything besides a sweat on this little trip, she was going to find herself dealing with a really pissed off angel. Which could be interesting, she had to admit, but something told her the smiting at the end would probably suck a little.

Sam had no idea what he was doing, but he somehow managed to land without killing himself. He didn't break or snap anything either, though it was probably a near thing. His ears were ringing, and his head felt like it might implode, but at the same time, he felt incredible.

"You do that for fun, don't you?" Sam asked, looking over at Parker. He wasn't referring to killing the zombie. But she had a weapon, so they could have faced the undead creatures from the ground floor. Sam sort of felt like he'd been duped, but at the same time the experience had been sort of amazing.
