WHO: Gellert Grindelwald & Albus Dumbledore
WHAT: Honesty screwed Albus over, and now Gellert's going to do it, too.
WHERE: Apartment #210D
WHEN: After this
RATING: PG-13
STATUS: In Progress

It was an opportunity that Gellert hadn't been expecting but one that had presented itself at the worst of times. This whole honesty thing was a thorn in his side and had the potential to absolutely ruin whatever attachment and influence that he had with Albus. He had quickly silenced the other man as far as continuing their discussion over that text thing lest it devolve quickly into Gellert admitting the most delicate part of his game to win Albus to his side. But even as he'd silenced him, Gellert knew that he had to place this dance carefully if it was going to succeed.

Returning from the market with the necessary provisions (milk, bread, and assorted nothing muchs), Gellert had paused in front of the door, taking a deep breath and steeling himself up. This would take near perfect timing. He had to get it done before Albus could even say a word or before he could give him a chance to edge in otherwise. If he didn't, it might all go to hell very quickly.

Taking a step forward and opening the door, Gellert glanced left and right before stepping inside and closing the door behind him, "Albus! I'm back!"

Albus had been fretting, there was really no other word for it, ever since his conversation with Gellert had ended. He was so worried about what answer Gellert would give him. Maybe he planned to leave, and find another place to stay. After all, it was on thing to share a room with a friend. It was quite another to do so with one who had admitted to a feelings of a more than friendly nature. He would hardly blame Gellert for feeling uncomfortable with him. It was his own fault for not telling him the truth sooner. Of course, he had planned for Gellert to never find out about his feelings. It would have been better for everyone involved if that had been the case. Stupid honesty. He much preferred keeping his feelings to himself.

And there was no way that Gellert could possibly return those feelings. Gellert was handsome and charming and flirted with every woman he'd met. Albus, meanwhile, had always been terribly awkward about such things. Romantic attachments were something he had avoided in favour of his studies. Faced with the reality of his feelings for Gellert, and Gellert's knowledge of those feelings, he'd worked himself up into such a state of nerves that he very nearly disapparated when he heard Gellert come in.

But he didn't, and he hesitantly stepped out of the kitchen. "Let me help you put those things away," he said, wanting to avoid this conversation for as long as possible.

Gellert had smiled at Albus's appearance even more so at the fact that he appeared to be in avoidance mode. That made it simpler to ease into this as he grabbed a few things to put them into the cabinets, "Thanks," Gellert said simply as he worked to put things away, lingering for a moment next to Albus each time that they reached each other's side. As soon as everything was put away, Gellert stood next to Albus in front of the kitchen counter, sparing a sideways glance at him for a moment as he reached out, grasping Albus's hand.

Slowly, carefully, not to eager and not too timid. He had a reputation, after all, as a smooth operator that Albus was well aware of, and him being too reserved about this would tip his friend off that there was something less than sincere about his actions. Which... Well, there was, honestly. Gellert might like Albus, but he certainly wasn't in love with him. He did think that Albus was definitely attractive, and while boys were something that he only indulged in occasional, he definitely wouldn't mind the distraction. Especially if it gave him a more solid footing and a firmer grasp on Albus's heartstrings.

"Now, I think I owe you an answer," Gellert said, a lilt of teasing in his voice as he leaned over and pressed a light kiss to Albus's cheek. "I think that might be close to an answer."

As long as he didn't ask a question.

"It's not trouble." If nothing else, it would give him some time to pull himself together. Or it would have if Gellert hadn't kept stepping so close to him. It was maddening. If it had been anyone else, he might have thought they were doing it on purpose. But Gellert was just Gellert. He didn't even think about things like that, they were just natural to him. Albus just had a habit of looking too much into it, and he couldn't do that any more now that Gellert knew his rather shameful secret. He couldn't even imagine what Gellert must think of him. Except Gellert had just taken his hand and suddenly his heart was racing and he could barely think.

He wasn't sure what Gellert was going to do, but when he kissed him on the cheek like that, his thoughts abruptly ground to a halt. He looked up at his friend, surprised and nervous, eyes wide with astonishment. "I..." he trailed off, trying to remember what he even wanted to say. "I'm not even sure I remember the question," he admitted. He was a little overwhelmed by everything and part of him still really wanted to leave.

"What...I mean...why..." he tried to form any sort of coherent question, but his brain wasn't quite cooperating.

Half formed questions earned a half formed answer, and the word, "Because," tripped off of Gellert's lips as he turned towards Albus, reaching down and taking his friend's other hand, playing their fingers together for awhile before slowly running his hands up his friend's arms. Albus's mind was rebelling against the situation. Gellert could see it in his friend's blue eyes, deep set with confusion at his actions, and that had been exactly what Gellert had been hoping to see. At least, for the moment. If he didn't calm that torrent, he might end up with far more questions than he bargained for because Albus was nothing if not inquisitive when it came to clearing up situations that he didn't fully comprehend. Especially as they happened so rarely.

"Because I already knew, Albus," Gellert said, his voice as silky and charming as it ever was with any woman that he might attempt to win to his side. "For a secret that you wished to hold so close, my friend, you rather constantly betrayed yourself."

Because nothing was more revealing than an unprovoked blush to someone who so often attempted to elicit them from others. Leaning forward, Gellert kissed him again, more directly and soundly this time than he had before, pressing their lips together to make sure that there was no question of his sincerity. However nonexistent whatever feelings Albus might assume were there would be.

He already knew. He'd known, all this time, and he'd said nothing. Albus felt like an utter idiot for ever letting himself believe that he'd been clever or subtle in keeping it to himself. Clearly it had been as obvious as anything to Gellert. And he didn't know how to handle the reality that his greatest secret wasn't so much a secret as he'd thought. He couldn't quite cope with it, and he could feel panic and dread building in his stomach. If Gellert left, if he rejected him because of his, he didn't know what he would do.

"I'm sorry," Albus said quietly. "I shouldn't...I know it's wrong but..." He felt his cheeks burning with shame, and he very nearly left, except that Gellert chose that moment to kiss him. Oh! Well, that was very nice, even if his nerves were a complete mess with all the emotional confusion. He kissed back, not quite sure what he was doing, but not caring too much. This was something he had wanted and, while he had no illusions that Gellert was in love with him, he could enjoy this. Even if Gellert was just being kind, he was still acting out of care and that was enough. Besides, it was nice to finally have something he wanted in his life.

When the kiss ended, he looked down at the floor, still red but in a different way. "I...I've never," he paused to compose himself. "I've never done that before. It was..." He smiled shyly. "It was nice."
