WHO: Arthur and Morgana
WHEN: Now.
WHAT: Morgana coughs and Arthur has a heartattack (not literally).
WHERE: Morgana's flat.
STATUS: Closed/Incomplete.
Ratings: PG/PG-13ish

Morgana had felt it tingling in the back of her head since late night Saturday but when by Monday the feeling hadn't worsened she had believed that perhaps luck would be on her side. She should have know better. By Tuesday afternoon, amid all the laughing and shopping excursions, the tingling had migrated it's way to a slight scratching burn on the back of her throat. Nothing major. She had taken her medication. She had the necessary vaccinations of this time -- for the most part. She had gone to sleep early, taken it as slow as she could yesterday, and drunk a lot of water to help the feeling pass. It had seemed to momentarily, only to attack her with a warm, suppressing feeling that very morning.

Morgana had taken her temperature. Not high enough for what was the designated temperature for a fever - she had looked it up that time Merlin had a sore throat - but higher than was normal body temperature. She had gotten her way to the store - very adapted to her new independence ... not that it was unusual for her to take care of herself as much as she could, she never made a big fuss when she was sick. Everyone else did - gotten the appropriate medication. Warmed up a can of Pregresso and plopped herself amid tissues (wicker basket near-by) and her sleeping attire. No one had been told. Merlin was out having coffee. Gwen was pregnant. And Arthur was a complete and utter nightmare whenever someone he cared for was sick, recovering from kidnapping/near-death/or in Gwen's case actual death. It was best to avoid for people who didn't have Gwen's patience.

Morgana could tolerate staying in bed and she could tolerate being fussed on. However, Gwen clucked and Arthur was bordering on unbearable. Besides, it was just a sore throat and a cold. Nothing to worry them about and so long as she kept updated on the network, no one would be the wiser.

Or so she thought.

See, the trouble with Morgana's line of thinking was that Arthur would be too busy looking after Gwen to not get bored. Merlin wasn't home, which no longer surprised Arthur when he went to knock on his door so the next target was Morgana.

Arthur rocked back on his heels and knocked soundly on her door, waiting. He hadn't seen Morgana in days. This wasn't to say that was an unusual span of time for them to be ignoring one another but Arthur was terribly, mind-numbingly bored and Morgana was, at the very least, always willing to insult his attention span and get into a sniping contest with him.

He was beginning to look forward to it.

Morgana muttered a curse under her breath. Pushing off the bed she blew her nose one last time and went to look at herself in the mirror. She fixed up her hair and did the necessary things to make herself look not sick. One would think that it would be easier to just give in to Arthur and Gwen's clucking. However, it wasn't. Morgana had years of experience with it and always ended up with her rolling her eyes more than was humanly possible, and in Arthur's case her head hurting more than it had to start with. Gwen at least gave her soup. It was so much easier to pretend to be alright, until she shuffled whoever it was away. Morgana suspected that they would be worse now that Gwen was pregnant. Since Gwen had become so much more stubborn about things and Arthur - more clingy.

"Who is it?" She called out. Perhaps she could send them away without having to open the door.

Perhaps she could explain why her voice sounded nasally. Arthur paused on the verge of knocking a second time when Morgana called out.

"You're going to let me in," he told her, suddenly agitated for a whole new reason. As distant as her voice had been, it had not been the crystal cutting tone he was used to. He hadn't heard her sound that soft and frankly unwell since Camelot. It was enough to make him wonder.

It was enough to make him worry.

"I will do no such thing." Morgana stated, her voice rising just a little to match the rolling of her eyes. "I've just finished bathing Arthur and I need to get dressed. What do you possibly need that's so important? Can't it wait?"

"No." Arthur could wait her out. He could stand guard by her door until curiosity and paranoia drove her to check and open it, letting him in whether she appreciated his concern or not. Or he could wait for Merlin to get home and have him magically open the door. Arthur had his options and a very stubborn attitude and surely if Morgana had been bathing he would have been able to hear the pipes rattling in the walls.

"Clearly it can since you aren't shouting out whatever is so important in your urgency." Morgana frowned slightly at herself. Unsure if that sentence even made a bit of sense. She cursed softly at herself. Her headached something awful. She considered just for a second just letting Arthur in to deal with it. However, she pushed that thought aside. It had long become a matter of stubborn pride against stubborn pride. She was far more stubborn than he was and he could wait outside as long as it took for her to feel better. She was not letting him in and there was no other way that she could currently think of - which wasn't very hard at the moment - for him to get it. Like hell Merlin would let him in. Merlin wouldn't risk her wrath. No matter how pouty he was with her over making him buy that dress.

"Would you like me to shout?" Arthur asked, leaning against the wall beside the door. Merlin would open that door because Arthur was strategic and knew Merlin wouldn't hurt him unless there were few options and Morgana's sickly wrath wasn't going to be enough of a deterrent.

"Don't make me get Gwen, Morgana. You know she fusses worse than I."

"You would really disturb Gwen, Arthur, just to get what you wanted?" She would have snorted at the last part but her nose was far too stuffy to do so. Not in her opinion. Though she really was a close second to Arthur.

"For this, yes." Arthur swore if Morgana did not open the door in the next few minutes he would go and fetch his wife to berate sense into Morgana whether she cared for it or not. All he would have to do is sound depressed and mention Morgana was ill.

It wouldn't even be a lie.

"Morgana, I can hear you're not doing well. Why are you being so stubborn about this?"

"Why are you being so stubborn about this?" Morgana demanded. He was being so stupid. "I can take care of myself, Arthur. It's just a bloody cold. I don't need you making a big thing out of nothing."

He would do it, wouldn't he? He was such an arse. A very well-meaning one but one nevertheless.

"Because you're ill, Morgana." It stunned him she even managed to admit it. They were far too similar when it came to sickness for that level of truth to be overlooked, and now that he got his confirmation, very little would remove him from her doorway.

"When someone you care for becomes ill, you look in on them. Don't pretend you wouldn't do the same."

"Accept I'm not as annoying about it as you are!" And yes, Morgana very nearly gave into stomping her feet. "Go away, Arthur." Damn him though for using that last card. That was very nearly an 'I love you' from Arthur and while Morgana would normally tease him about it she was just much too tired. He didn't say things like that often and Morgana tended to go soft when Arthur was unexpectedly sweet, especially when her defenses were already low.

"No, but I am as stubborn as you are. I'm not leaving. Not until I see you for myself."

And preferably make certain she wasn't going to leave herself in a worse state.

"I'll open the door but you're not coming in. And don't think that I won't take precautions to ensure that you don't barge in." Morgana takes a very quick moment to look at the mirror to make sure that she didn't look too horrid. As soon as she is satisfied, she the puts on the latch chain, and opens the door as wide as the chain will allow, he can see her face and she is blocking the view to her apartment. "Satisfied? Good. I will see you tomorrow Arthur."

Arthur slammed his palm into the door to stop her from shutting it. He was sure she hadn't meant for him to get as good a look at her as he had, but what he saw was enough to kick in some not often used paternal instincts, amongst others and it wasn't that he enjoyed fussing, more so than Morgana currently just needed it.

And if she refused to have Gwen, by God she could put up with him making her more comfortable.

"Morgana, let me in."

Morgana just clenched her jaw stubbornly, staring at him. She was about to refuse him again when a series of coughs shook her frame. And then she sneezed. "Fine!" She said removing the chain and opening the door, before trekking back to her bedroom and bed. "However, the minute you start irritating me, you will leave. Understood?"
