Who: Faith Lehane and John Winchester
Where: Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cathedral
When: After this network exchange
What: Tears and Confrontations
Rating: High for angst probably

Faith had fled to the church after walking in on John and her mother. She couldn't believe that he had done such a thing - after telling her so many times how much he loved her, and taking care of her when she needed it. He had brought her orchids while she had been in the hospital because he knew she didn't like roses, and he had been with her almost every night at dinner, telling her about his day. Now she knew where he went when he left her because she wouldn't allow him to sleep over (it wasn't right because they weren't married), and the truth hurt. After the short accusation she had left on the network, she told herself she didn't want to see him. But she did. She couldn't help it - despite his betrayal, she loved him too much.

She sat in a pew at the church, near the front, gazing at the statue of Mary. Faith was doing her best to draw strength from it and to tell herself she should forgive him...but it was difficult. After letting him know where she was, she raised a hand to the small gold cross she wore around her neck - a gift from John - and closed her eyes to pray in silence. She wished desperately that she knew what she had done wrong, why he had turned to her mother in such a way. It couldn't be because she wouldn't make love with him, because he had told her that he understood her beliefs, and he was willing to wait as long as she wanted...so what could it be? What could she have done?

John had second thoughts about meeting Faith at the church. He shouldn't go there. He had no business walking on holy ground. And yet, he felt compelled to go to her, to try to explain something that couldn't be explained.

"Faith?" He called out to her, stepping inside. He glanced around, taking in the splendor of the church. It seemed wrong for something bad to happen in such a beautiful place.

Hearing his voice caused her shoulders to jerk slightly, before she bowed her head and opened her eyes. She took a shaky breath, then called out quietly. "I'm here, John." She felt like a coward for wanting him to not hear her, but she was certain he would.

"Hey," John tried for normal, though the quiver that affected his voice betrayed him. He had so much going through his mind. Mary, Faith, Faith's mother, even his boys played a part, because he knew Sam was going through a hard time, and he hadn't seen Dean or Adam for weeks.

He stopped moving as he approached Faith, standing a few feet from her. he wanted to go to her, take her in his arms, and hold her. He was afraid he'd never be able to hold her again, and that was his fault, his doing, his stupidity.

"How are you?" Stupid question, he knew. And he more or less knew the answer, but still, it seemed like he needed to ask.
