To say she was nervous would be an understatement. In fact, Dawn was not only nervous, but she thought she was more scared than she had been facing dozens of ubervamps back in Sunnydale just before she arrived in Colligo. As she stood outside Adam's door, staring at it in silence for a long moment, she didn't yet knock. She had no idea how this was going to go. From the texts, she couldn't tell if he was happy or sad or angry, or if he wanted nothing more to do with her. The thing was, she didn't really know what she wanted, either. Wait, that wasn't right - she wanted Adam, because she really did care about him, even if she had flirted with other guys...and cheated on him. She also was sure that she wanted the baby - even if he didn't. It was a piece of him she could hold onto, and...well, she couldn't even consider the alternative.

Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes for a moment, then reopened them and lifted her hand, knocking softly on the door.

"Adam? It's me. Dawn."

Truth be told, Adam wasn't sure how he felt. On one hand he was shocked, to put it lightly. On another, he was a bit... happy, really, was the only way to describe it. Freaked out, confused, a little angry, but also happy. If Dawn was telling the truth, and she was about to have a baby, and that baby was going to be his? Yeah. He was happy.

True it was a lot sooner than he'd planned on such a thing. And as much as he loved Dawn, he wasn't sure that she was the woman he wanted as a mother to his children. However, it looked like the choice might be out of his hands. Which wasn't something he was okay with, really, but he had no say-so in the matter. He hadn't used protection and, as a result, Dawn was apparently pregnant. And the alternative to having the child wasn't even a possibility in his mind.

Pacing back and forth, he went still at the knock on the door. For a second he considered not answering it. However he knew that wasn't being very mature. He needed to deal with this, one way or another. He could only hope Dawn wasn't just playing him as some sort of ploy to get him alone.

Upon opening the door, however, he knew that wasn't the case. One look at her and it was obvious, to him at least. So rather than stay as aloof as he'd been via text, he offered her a soft smile and stepped aside. "Come on in," he stated as he gave her room to enter. He was still angry, of course, but he could put it aside for now. There was a baby to consider, after all.

Her eyes had fallen after she knocked, and for a moment she thought he wouldn't answer. Before she could decide if she should knock again or turn and walk away, the door opened and her eyes slowly rose to meet his. When he smiled, she hesitated, then gave a slow, wary smile in return - she was still a little worried he was going to be angry, but he didn't seem to be, so maybe this would go okay?

Dawn stepped in slowly, one hand pushing a few brunette strands behind her ear as she glanced around his apartment. It was the same as always, of course, which shouldn't have surprised her because it had only been a couple weeks since she'd been in there. She walked over to the couch and sank down slowly, before looking over at him again. "How are you?"

How was he? Adam didn't have an answer for that. However, he wasn't likely to tell Dawn as much. No, she would probably take his nonchalant response as meaning he was upset about the pregnancy. He couldn't blame her for thinking that, of course, but it wasn't how he felt. So rather than answer, he simply gave a slight shrug as he shut the door and made his way to the couch as well.

"I'm... a little shocked," he answered honestly, ducking his gaze for a second before forcing himself to look at her. He swallowed, hard, then worked up the nerve to speak again. Even if it was just a basic question, at least it was something, right?

"How are you?"

He was shocked? Her first time having sex, she ended up pregnant. She knew that that was a risk, of course, but at the time...well, the tequila had pretty much taken the choice away from them. She absently twisted the bottom hem of her shirt, as her shrug mirrored his.

"Shocked. Kinda weirded out....and in a way, happy." Her gaze flickered to him, then away. "Not that this was my plan or anything, because it wasn't, but...Adam, I'm not really upset about this. I mean...it's a good thing, right? A baby?" She looked to him again, really hoping he was okay with this.

"If you're not....I mean, if you don't want to...I can go." Dawn didn't want to leave, not in the slightest, but she would if that's what he wanted her to do.

"What? No!" Adam exclaimed. Realizing how that sounded, he amended quickly with, "I mean, I don't want you to go, Dawn. I'm just..." He sighed softly and dropped his gaze to the ground. Knees bent, arms hanging between his spread legs, he looked very much like the teenager he still technically was. As far as how he felt... shocked, really, was all he could think to say. Overwhelmed, he supposed, was a better fit, but still didn't quite cover it. Peering back over at Dawn, brow furrowed, Adam did his best to explain a little better than that.

"This morning I pretty much figured we weren't together anymore and now I find out that I'm going to be a father, Dawn. A baby is a good thing but there's a lot to think about." School. A job. Money. Raising a child. It was too much, too quick. He swallowed hard.

"I love you."

The words were spoken softly, so soft he wasn't sure he'd even said them out loud. Meeting her gaze, he repeated himself. "I love you, Dawn, and I want to be with you. I want to do this the right way. I grew up without my dad around. I won't make the same mistakes he did." Licking his lips, he offered her a touch of a smile. "So no, I don't want you to leave. I'm just... not really sure what to say, right now. That's all." Not that he'd ever been very good with words in the first place, but right now it was doubly worse. He could only hope Dawn would understand.

His 'no!' caused her to jump a little and almost get up, but she eased back down when he said he didn't want her to go. She watched him worriedly for a moment, until he started to speak again. She wrapped her arms around herself and nodded her in agreement. "There is a lot to think about. A whole lot."

When he said he loved her, she kept her eyes on his, her own widening slowly. Even after what she had done - and he didn't know the worst part, but she wasn't planning on telling him ever if she could help it - he loved her.

"I love you too." The words weren't quite automatic, because it was something she had to think about first, to be sure, but she was and so they were sincere. She slowly smiled in return and stood, moving over to him. "I want to be with you, too. I want that even if I wasn't pregnant...when we were...not together...it hurt." One hand rose and rested over her heart - it might've been corny but it was true. "Right here. I hated being apart from you." As she reached him, she slid her arms around him slowly. "You don't have to say anything...not right now. I just want to be with you, okay?" She gave him another small, shaky smile, then kissed him softly.
