WHO: Hermione and Sirius
WHAT: Drinks and introductions!
WHEN: BACKDATED to just after Hermione's arrival
WHERE: A pub
RATING: PG for language, knowing Sirius and his filthy mouth
STATUS: In progress

Hermione wasn't the most spontaneous of creatures. In years of friendship with Harry and Ron she'd learned to unbend and to go with things, to think on the fly, but she would never really enjoy changing her plans. Finding herself transported to another planet was entirely not on. While the new apartment she'd been given was all right, it wasn't her cosy little flat in London. And things just didn't seem to fit right. At least she had her wand. And if the device and its messages hadn't tricked her, she had at least one friend in this place.

Of course, the friend had been dead the last she'd known about him. Not just dead but vanished. And now he was claiming to be younger and not know her. Time travel was possible, she knew that, and so was traveling over space. So it wasn't impossible for him to be here, or for her to be there. It was just... bizarre. And unexpected.

All in all, she was rather glad this meeting was happening over drinks.

Sirius, for what may have been the first time since he'd arrived in Colligo, the first time since he'd brought the damn thing, had ventured out without his bike. He loped along the street, dressed in what was fast becoming his uniform of white t-shirt and dark, thin jeans, hands shoved fast in his pockets.

He was supposed to be meeting this Granger girl for a drink. She said she knew him, him and Harry. Which meant she knew him after... everything happened. Was it wrong that that made him a little uncomfortable?

Sirius frowned, shaking dark hair from his face as he approached the pub. He was getting used to meeting people from all over the place, but this was the first time someone claimed to have met him before he had any idea who they were. If that made sense. If any of it made sense. If he was completely sirius serious, the whole thing was giving him a headache.

Approaching the door, Sirius paused, peering into the dimly lit pub curiously. Finally, his dark stare settled on a head of thick, curly hair. Was that her? There was only one way to find out... Sirius strode into the room, coming up behind her. One arched eyebrow rose, and a faint smirk suddenly curled playfully at the corner of his mouth.

"Hermione Granger?"

Hermione turned and found herself torn between several emotions. It wasn't the Sirius she knew; his face was almost unlined, hair missing the grey of Azkaban and eyes lacking that haunted depth that never left them. It was, instead, a rather ridiculously good-looking young man. But that smirk, really the entire expression, spoke volumes about the troublemaker he'd been and that was still visible in glimpses when she'd gotten to know the former Marauder.

"Sirius Black?" she asked in return, unable to resist a small smile back. "It's good to see you, though I'm sure you must have any number of questions for me." She gestured vaguely at the rest of the room. "Shall we find a table somewhere?"

Sirius' smile quickly morphed into a wide, confident grin. "The one and only," he announced proudly, quickly giving his new companion a quick look over. She was pretty, in her way, with a head of dark hair and an open, serious face that was draped in shadows in the badly lit room. Hermione turned back to him, and he nodded, pushing long hair back over his forehead. "Course."

Looking around, Sirius quickly located a table tucked away by a window, and strode towards it. He liked to sit in the sun these days. Ever since Moony had told him about Azkaban, he'd suffered from a little claustrophobia. Once there, the Marauder casually pulled out a chair for Hermione, then turned back to face her.

"I'll grab drinks. What you having?" He hesitated, the continued. He was a bit nervous suddenly, though he didn't know why, and his brain seemed to have lost control of his mouth. "Although you can't get Butterbeer here for love or money, before you ask. Believe me, I have tried offering both. They just look at you like you crawled out of the sea..."

How very gentlemanly. Hermione took the offered chair and looked back up at Sirius, thinking it over. "Well, it doesn't exactly seem like it's run by our kind, does it?" One didn't want to toss around terms like Muggle in an unknown environment, but you could usually tell pretty quickly by looking. "Do they have... the more standard run of things? I'll have a vodka and lemonade, I suppose." Because nonalcoholic did not seem appropriate for whatever sort of conversation they were going to have.

Her eyes followed Sirius as he headed to the bar, and she gave him another friendly smile as he came back and sat down across from her. "I'm sorry if I confused you with our conversation before," she said. "This is all a bit strange. Which I'm sure you're aware of."

Sirius nodded and loped off towards the bar, his hand momentarily floating to his back pocket to check his wand. Moody hated people who carried their wands in their back pocket, and Sirius had developed the habit mainly to annoy him. There had been one particular incident where James and Sirius had faked the loss of a buttock using a chunk of ham and a lot of screaming, which stuck out particularly in his mind...

Reaching the bar, it didn't take long for the young man to have a quick flirt with the barmaid, get the drinks (one vodka lemonade, one pint), and carry them back to the table. He slid his long frame into the seat opposite Hermione, pushing hers towards her as she spoke. Sunlight spilled through the window, lighting them both on one side.

"Oh, I'm getting used to it." He grinned widely to her, curling his fingers around his drink. "Although you may have to fill me in on a few things... You said you know Harry? What's he like?" He actually leaned forward a little bit, suddenly eager to listen to whatever she had to say. "Merlin, don't say he's crap at Quidditch. Prongs'll cry if he is. If he's rubbish, just lie. It would be kinder."

Ah. So not only was he handsome, he knew exactly how handsome he was. That sort was easy enough to deal with, you just had to treat them like they had a hideous boil on their nose. Hermione smiled brightly and thanked Sirius for her drink, taking a sip.

Prongs was - "James? You mean James Potter's here as well?" She knew very well what had happened to the Potters and how their absence had affected her best friend his whole life, and the thought that Harry's dad was here but Harry wasn't felt somehow unfair. "He should be proud, though, Harry's brilliant at Quidditch. Youngest Seeker in a generation, I believe, and he won us the Cup more years than not. And I'm not lying, I promise." Not that he was likely to have Veritaserum on him. "Harry's... I don't even know where to start. He's incredibly stubborn, and brave, and he can be so, so kind. He's seen things nobody should but it just made him that much more determined to do what he could to help others." How could she sum up the life of a walking hero to someone who'd last seen him as an infant?

"Oh, yeah... James is here, with Lily. Remus and my cousin are around. And Snape." The last name was more or less spat out, and for a moment Sirius' face distorted nastily. Then it was gone, and he was smiling as Hermione described his godson. It was remarkable, how much he could love a boy that wasn't even his. But perhaps not. After all, he'd spent many evenings sitting with James on the floor, reading the Quidditch scores to Lily's bump, finally getting into an argument about beaters and smacking his best friend around the head with the paper.

"He sounds like them," Sirius agreed happily, settling back in his chair. "You'll have to meet them. They'd love to hear that." There was a heavy pause, while Sirius took a gulp of his drink, finally running a long finger over the condensation on the glass and lifting his gaze back to his companion

"And... you know me? Knew me?" He stared at her, as if trying to find some clue in her expression. "I know what happens. Moony told me."

And Lily - and then Hermione felt her heart leap up into her throat. Professor Lupin was alive? And Tonks! Oh, it was like some kind of dream. She just hoped it wasn't one of those dreams that ended when she woke up and found tears on her pillow. Snape she could deal with later - he may have been redeemed posthumously but she wasn't going to try and explain that now.

"Everyone said he looked just like James, but with Lily's eyes," she said, mouth curving into a crooked grin. "Actually, I think he got rather sick of hearing it. I'd love to meet them, though. Maybe Harry will turn up here someday too." She traced a circle around her glass and tried to decide how to answer his last question, then looked up sharply at the very last bit.

"Well, that saves me some explanation," she said. "I did. You... well, I suppose you know that you escaped from Azkaban. We - Harry and I saved your life, and I got to know you a little after that." She paused. Would he laugh at this? "You loved each other dearly, and I know it meant a great deal to him that he got to know you, even if it was far shorter than the time you should have had."

It was strange, talking about Harry like this. Like he was a real person. Of course, Sirius knew he was a real person. Technically. But it was hard to change the baby with his shock of dark hair into a man, who fought and joked and was friends with the girl sat opposite him. Sirius smiled softly, uncharacteristically quiet as she spoke. A strange pang went through his chest, a loss that he had yet to experience.

"You did?" He grinned at her, widely. Well, that was good. "Cheers! How do you save me? I hope it's suitably dramatic and exciting." Was he supposed to know things like this? He supposed it couldn't make much difference now. He knew about Wormtail. If he remembered that once he got home, everything would pan out very differently anyway.

He stared at her for a long moment after the final statement, the table suddenly quiet. How long did Harry know him for? It couldn't have been long. A shiver of guilt went through him, and he dropped Hermione's gaze. He'd promised James and Lily he'd take care of him, if he had to... Look what he'd done instead. Suddenly feeling awkward, Sirius took a deep breath and did what he normally did when he felt tension building. He made a joke. "He's Prongs' kid. I would have forced him to like me. By force if necessary."

He lifted his face and his gaze, settling his attention once again on the girl opposite him, casting around for a change of subject. "And what about you? You just finished Hogwarts?"

"It involved a Patronus charm, a hippogriff, and some highly unorthodox use of a Time-Turner." Hermione grinned back. "And it was very dramatic." And exciting - and scary as hell, but that probably went along with the rest of it.

The joke fell a bit flat, and Hermione reached across the table, touching Sirius's hand lightly just to reassure him. "Force wasn't necessary, I promise." But if he didn't want to go through a cathartic moment with a near-stranger in a public place, she certainly wasn't going to press him. "I've been out for a while now, working for the Ministry." She gave him a searching look, trying to decide whether he'd be scornful of her job or not. "In the Regulation of Magical Creatures department."

A bark of excited, slightly stunned laughter escaped Sirius as Hermione grinned across at him, causing a few heads to turn. "A hippogriff?! Really?" He shook his head, forcing dark hair from his eyes with an easy smile. "I always knew that boy would make me proud. I knew from the first time he threw up on Moony. It sounds brilliant. I am very nearly looking forward to it now."

He started as she touched his hand, keeping his smile firmly in place even as the emotion behind it died a little. Clearing his throat, Sirius glanced to his drink, watching the minuscule bubbles float lazily to the top of the amber liquid. He was glad when the subject changed, because it distracted him from the morbid thoughts he was conjuring in his own head. Sirius knew how quickly his own mood could change, knew the dramatic swings he was often subject to.

"Magical Creatures?" He asked, lifting a brow thoughtfully. "Like what? House Elves? Werewolves?" He didn't really have much idea what went on in the Ministry - where he came from it was easiest avoided. Voldermort had people all over the place. He knew there had been some kind of anti-werewolf act put up at one point, but not which department it had been imposed by. Sirius entertained a brief memory of himself and Prongs trying to march down to the Ministry to shout at someone, but Remus had stopped them. He had still penned a very angry, obscene letter.

She grinned. "Really. It was terrifying - I've never been much for flying, I'm afraid. But Harry... he wasn't quite as legendary a troublemaker as you and your friends were, but he certainly got into his fair share of scrapes at school." To say nothing of battling dark wizards starting at the age of eleven. "And I got dragged along, more often than not. Just to make sure he didn't get into too much trouble, of course."

Hermione took another sip of her drink and nodded. "Like both of those, yes. I believe there's important work to be done in advancing the rights of non-human sentients. But I'll stop before I go off on a tirade, most people find it rather tiresome." Yes, she had learned to shut up about her pet causes on occasion.

"Troublemakers? We were just high spirited!" Sirius grinned wickedly, lifting his drink to take several long gulps, appreciating the way the liquid trickled down his throat. When he'd finished, it was just in time to lean in a fraction over the table and tell Hermione, in a completely serious voice. "You mean you are his Remus? How very dull for you."

Then he snorted. "You should meet my parents elf. Kreacher. He's a fucking mental. Luckily he's normally too far up my darling Mothers arse for anyone to understand what he's saying." Sirius didn't think he could even call Kreacher any more. Not since he'd been disowned four years ago. Not that he'd ever want to. Everything about that house, those people, made his skin crawl. It was still a little surprising to him how much he hated them. Merlin, it was almost enough to make him want to give Snape a little cuddle.

Sirius drained the last of his drink, before nodding to Hermione's. "You want another?"

"I think I'll take that as a compliment, if you don't mind," she replied, leaning in a little and raising one eyebrow. Being the voice of reason would never be a bad thing to her.

Hermione winced and shook her head, curls flying. "I did meet Kreacher. He... he was what he was made, I suppose. But he did turn out to be helpful in the end, once he was treated with kindness." Did Sirius know what had happened to Regulus? He certainly couldn't have known what had happened with the horcrux, or how Kreacher had helped them find it... but then the house-elf had also been indirectly responsible for Sirius's death. She abruptly finished the rest of her drink and nodded, eyes bright. "All right, why not?"

Sirius pulled a face. "That whole house was barmy. You have no fucking idea how glad I was to get out of there." He remembered that night - the shouting, swearing, his Mother's wand in his face and her face an interesting combination of red and white. A sudden flash of light and the feeling of blood on his face. Sirius resisted the urge to touch his temple, where a light scar was hidden by his hair. He'd arrived at James' house less than half an hour later, shaking on the doorstep.

"Coming right up."

In order to release some of the tension he was feeling, he did a bit of wild, impromptu disco inferno dancing on the way to the bar, nearly taking out an old man nursing a pint and a newspaper. Then there was just time for another quick flirt with the barmaid before he scooped up the glasses and was loping elegantly back to Hermione and their sunlit table.

"Okay." He threw himself down at the chair, passing her her drink before tipping his chair back, letting it balance precariously on its back legs as he examined her. A smirk curled effortlessly at the corners of his mouth. "I've asked loads of questions. You have a go. Just keep it clean, Granger. There are children about."

There weren't children about. He was talking rubbish. But never mind.

"Oh, I'm well aware." Hermione mimicked his face, remembering cleaning out the cobwebs and the feeling that the whole house was hunched in on itself. But then, it was rather unfair that she knew so much more about him than he would know about her.

She accepted her new glass with a nod of thanks, surveying him coolly. He really was terribly sure of himself, wasn't he? "Why a flying motorbike?" It wasn't the most obvious question, but she had to wonder. "Was a broom just not impressive enough?"

Sirius let his chair fall back onto it's recommended number of legs with a thud, reaching for his drink. "Never been the biggest fan. Prongs was always the broom type person." He shrugged, spinning the glass, with its beer, from one hand to the other while keeping his eyes locked on Hermione. Then a slow, playful grin unfurled over his features.

"I did Quidditch commentary at Hogwarts though. Or I tried to. Minnie banned me about five times a term.. Anyway," he cocked his head, in a way that was almost canine. "The bike's beautiful. Haven't you seen it?"

"Apparently it runs in the family," she observed, watching his hands and the glass rather than meeting his gaze. "Professor McGonagall was equally unimpressed by the commentator when we were students, Lee Jordan."

She shook her head again, pushing her hair away from her face. "No, I never did." And she was fine with that, because flying was not her favorite activity. It was rather near the bottom of the list.

"Why not?" Sirius gaped at her. What happened to his beautiful machine?! "I know there can't be many flying opportunities in Azkaban, but surely Harry inherited it? Or Moony?"

He loved that bike. It had held his attention for far longer than any female or job had managed. But it was, admittedly, a gorgeous piece of machinery, mixed with some clever charm work. He and James had had some good times on it, running away from Death Eaters. And muggle police. Even Moony, when he could be convinced to jump into the 'bitch seat', had struggled not to laugh as they'd hurtled through London.

"I didn't ride it here..." he sighed, glancing a little mournfully out of the window. Still, he had spent way too many mornings trekking around the pubs of Colligo, hoping to find whatever barman had locked the keys away. They all seemed to think a drunken Sirius would crash it into a lamppost. "Maybe another time. There's not a whole lot to do here, to be honest. Unless you like getting a job and sitting on your arse."

"Well, I think Harry has it now, but I only saw it for a moment when - well, that's a very long story." The escape from Privet Drive and all that followed weren't things she liked to dwell on. She sipped at her drink and watched his face. Hermione was still an observer at heart, always wanting to learn more.

"Another time," she echoed, thinking privately that it wasn't likely to happen anytime soon. "Some of us like having an occupation, though."

Sirius just looked at her. He hadn't had what people would call a 'proper' job since he'd graduated Hogwarts. There hadn't been any need to, once he'd inherited all that money from his uncle. And the fact that no sane employer would keep him for more than a couple of weeks. So he'd just worked for the Order, going off on missions for Dumbledore and winding up Mad-Eye...

"So... wait." He leaned in, narrowing dark eyes in a comically suspicious expression. "What year were you actually in? I mean, is it past from whenever Moony's from? I think he said 1998. He bloody looks old enough, anyway. Poor bloke." He grinned again, because that smile never left Sirius' face for too long, and scraped his chair in under the table so he could cross his arms on the surface.

Hermione didn't come from a moneyed family. Her parents had taught her the value of work and a job that you were good at, and she loved her work at the Ministry. But living off a family inheritance wasn't a possibility.

"It was 2001 when I left London," she said, toying with her glass. Several years out of Hogwarts. Her expression shuttered itself as Sirius asked about Remus. "My understanding is that being a werewolf is very hard on the body." And of course Remus didn't live very much past then. But she didn't want to dwell on that.

2001. That was five years after he died. Twenty years after Prongs. Sirius felt suddenly uncomfortable, and shifted in his chair, reaching for his already half-empty pint for something to do with his hands.

It didn't seem real, somehow. Even now, this whole thing - Wormtail, James, Harry - all seemed like a story told to frighten. He'd always assumed that he and his friends, James especially, would always be there. They had seemed like the constant. To think it could all be wiped away, and so quickly.... Sirius took a deep drink, trying to hide his expression.

"Remus does well," he told Hermione, putting the cold glass down. "He's stronger than he looks. Than he thinks." He glanced up at her, not missing the sudden hardness that had taken over her features. "What's that look for?" he teased her gently, mistaking the reason for her sudden quiet. "Cheer up - It's not that bad here. I throw some excellent parties. I'll have James show you his moonwalk! You'll never look back."

"When he has you, he does," she said gently. "But he was alone for a very long time. I don't think that was good for him." Not only the physical transformations but the mental anguish. God, this was far more depressing than she'd expected it to be.

His teasing and another swallow of her drink brought back her smile, though her eyes were still lacking their sparkle. "I feel as though I should run in fear from the thought of a party thrown by Sirius Black." Fear of loss of honor and sanity, most likely.

God, was she trying to make him die of guilt? It wasn't as if he hadn't thought about Remus going through all that alone every month for twelve years. The idea of it made him feel sick, his stomach twisting anxiously in on himself. But Remus wouldn't talk about it, and he knew from a decade of friendship that there was no point pushing him. The man could be remarkably stubborn when the mood took him.

He feigned an offended look. "Is my reputation that bad?" he exclaimed, although a shining in his eyes told that he was really quite pleased by it. "You do need to come, though. Meet everyone. There's people here who... are from after your time. Harry's kids."

Did that count as breaking news gently? Probably not. Never mind. Sirius had never claimed to be particularly subtle about things. He peered curiously across at Hermione, pushing his hair from his face and chewing on the inside of his cheek for a moment to stop himself smirking.

"It is precisely that bad," she replied, propping her chin on her hand and grinning. And she was very glad that she wasn't drinking anything when he informed her about the apparent children of her best friend.

"Harry's children?" she exclaimed. Hermione sat up straight, more surprised than she perhaps should have been. "As in plural? I - if I ask who their mother is, will that cause some sort of paradox?" Probably not, if Sirius knew what happened to him. "How strange."

Sirius shrugged, grinning widely at her obvious surprise. He had always been a huge fan of the shock factor. It was that moment when they colour drained from a persons face. It really never got old. "I don't know her actual name... She's a Weasley? Potter's have a real thing for red hair, apparently. I think its because they lack backbone."

Good job Prongs wasn't here. Sirius would definitely have got a smack around the head for that. He lifted his drink, holding it a little before his face as he spoke. "There's three of them, anyway. James, Albus and Lily. Anyway," he quirked an eyebrow, that teasing grin suddenly firmly back in place before he took another drink. "Now you know how I feel."

"That'd be Ginny," she said, still feeling utterly gobsmacked. It made a great deal of sense, but hearing that it had happened - was going to happen - well, it was just a bit of a shock.

Hermione finished off her drink and shook her head a little, smiling at the names. "Very appropriate. And yes, I suppose I do." Something occurred to her that made her pull a face. "I don't have any future progeny wandering around here, do I? I'm not entirely sure I'd want to know if I did."

"James Sirius Potter!" Sirius elaborated, a note of pride definitely taking over his voice. "Harry obviously has fine taste when it comes to naming his first born. Unlike the actual James, who let me down immensely." He chuckled to himself, placing the drink down and letting his chair tilt backwards once again.

"I don't think so. None that I've met, anway. There's just Ted, Moony's kid. Some boy called Scorpius who I think's a Malfoy, and the Potters... Oh, and another Weasley. Victoire." He tipped a little further on his seat, reaching behind him to curl his fingers around the edge of the next table, supporting himself. Sirius offered Hermione a wide smile as the chair wobbled dangerously.

"Then me and the rest of the 'originals.' We're living the high life."

"Do you happen to know where James got the name Harry?" she asked, leaning in. Honoring his father and godfather would of course have been obvious enough.

The information about the others let her breathe easy, though she tried to resist the urge to roll her eyes at the mention of a miniature Malfoy. "I know Victoire, though she was just a baby when I saw her last. So was Teddy."

Sirius laughed, a sharp bark of laughter that echoed off the far wall and bounced back to their table. "All he told me was that 'Harry' was less uptight than 'Henry.'" He grinned widely, a warmth growing in his eyes. "I didn't ask any more, because then he threw a quaffle at my face."

"They're getting married," Sirius offered, glancing over his shoulder to gauge how far he could tilt back before he landed on his arse. "Teddy and Vic. I'm going to give him another bachelor party. He already had one, but I am very good at them. James' was a triumph. I might even throw Moony a belated one." He twisted his lip, chewing it for a moment as he considered, then there was a scrape, a wobble, and Sirius promptly disappeared under the table as the chair toppled backwards.

"Oh fuck! Bollocks, wank!" Came the colourful exclamation from the floor, quickly followed by. "My pissing hair!"

Sometimes the canine aspects really did come through, and Hermione laughed at the story. "That sounds entirely likely, from what I know of James." The thought of Sirius throwing parties didn't quash her grin either. Perhaps she'd tell him that her birthday was in a short while. Was time the same here? Did it count?

And then he was on the floor and cursing up a storm. Hermione ducked down to look at him. "Are you all right? Other than your hair?"

Sirius extracted his long limbs from the chair until he was sat on the floor, scowling at the chair as if it had personally offended him as Hermione's grinning face appeared. He turned to glare at her, and actually lasted a second before a smirk twitched at the corners of his mouth, finally breaking into a full smile. "Oi. If you spent as much time on hair as I do, you would not take this so lightly."

Sirius combed his fingers through the dark locks for a moment, before giving up and bounding energetically to his feet. "I'm bored," he announced to Hermione, wide grin still firmly in place as he bounced on the balls of his feet. "Lets go do something. You want to meet Merlin? He hates me. He thinks I am a prat of the first water."

Hermione couldn't hold back a giggle at that. "Waste of time, I'm afraid, with this mess." Admittedly she had learned a few tricks to deal with her bushy mane, but forcing it into anything other than slightly less wild curls was only reserved for special occasions.

She watched Sirius bounce up and grinned. "Merlin? Like the actual Merlin? You're joking." But she stood up anyway, smoothing her skirt down.

Sirius grinned down on her, still standing by the table with that restless itch worming under his skin. "We're in a city of Potters. Your hair'll blend right in."

Hermione got to her feet, and Sirius almost immediately closed long, elegant fingers around her wrist and tugged her to the doorway. He got like this sometimes, unable to keep still for more than half an hour before he felt like he might explode. Exams had always been a real issue... During his OWLs it had been all he could do not to explode an ink bottle over the invigilators head.

"Yeah," he told her, speaking over his shoulder. "He's only about twenty though, and sadly without any kind of a beard. He runs one of those Muggle magic shops." He shrugged as they reached to door, stepping aside to let Hermione leave first. "I charmed a load of plastic fingers to pick the customers noses, as a hilarious and affectionate joke, and now he hates me."

The wide grin that remained firmly in place hinted that Sirius really wasn't too fussed about this fact.

Sometimes Hermione felt as though her entire life was destined to be spent being dragged around by dark-haired boys. With Harry it was often metaphorical, but with Sirius it was frighteningly literal. And yet he still had those gentleman's instinct, which apparently he couldn't reject along with the rest of his family's legacy.

"That doesn't sound hilarious or affectionate to me," she informed him with a toss of her head. She sounded precisely as bossy as she ever had, but her slight smile belied the tone. "I don't exactly blame him if you're terrorising his customers."

"Welll...." Sirius seemed to consider for a moment, dragging out the single syllable as a wicked, playful grin blossomed lazily over his face. "Maybe not affectionate. But it was definitely hilarious."

Hermione was giving him a look that was a rather frightening mix of Remus and McGonagall. Sirius was suddenly reminded of the time he'd thrown his world-renowned (well, Hogwarts-renowned) birthday party in the Slytherin common room. Minnie had called him on to her office to lecture him until his face fell off with boredom, but he could tell a part of her wanted to laugh. Ah. Happy memories. He did miss Minnie. She definitely loved him.

"Terrorizing is a strong word!" Sirius defended himself, dragging his thoughts back to the present and dutifully following Hermione from the bar. A cat was skulking on a wall a little way down the street, and his leg twitched to chase it. He really needed to spend less time as Padfoot...

"Right!" He announced, grasping his new companions hand with his own and using the other to point dramatically down the crowded pavement. "To town! And whatever awaits us!"

And he took off, dragging Hermione behind him and nearly decapitating a middle-aged couple who were innocently waiting for a bus.
