Entry tags:marian fitzwalter, robin hood

Who: Marian and Robin
What: A surprise
When: Just after their talk
Where: Their apartment
Rating: TBA

She understood that having Robin here should really take away an home sickness; after all he was her home. But at the same time she had found herself missing Nottingham. Just the way they lived there, even if it was in fear at most times. It was natural, of course, to miss something that had meant so much to you. She would give up anything for Nottingham, she put her life at risk for that shire. And it was obvious that she would end up mssing it as much as she did now that she wasn't anywhere near home and couldn't go back. She would just have to deal with it, put it behind her and come to terms with this being her home now. And Robin was right, they could find somewhere where they could ride together. It was silly that she really missed something like that but riding was more than a hobby to her. It was something that she adored, just like Robin with his bow. Something that made her happy.

She lay back on her bed as she talked to Robin through the PDA. It was a strange device she still wasn't use to, but she would get there eventually. She couldn't help but tease him a couple of times, the responses to things he said to her coming automatic. Of course, things had been like that ever since they went to bed together. Almost as if something had lifted between them, they seemed slightly more light in their attitude to each other. Giving up on holding back on doing what he wanted after a minute, she pushed herself off the bed and dumped her PDA on it. She wouldn't really need it anyway. Going to the door, she opened it and looked around, frowning when she couldn't see Robin. Why was he so desperate for her to leave if he wasn't the...

That's when she spotted it. A small, brown cuddly horse. Walking to the table where it was, she picked it up and ran her hand along the soft fur in place of the mane, sitting on the couch as she did so.

He was glad their jesting and teasing speaking back and forward through the PDA had seemed to ease some of her melancholy. Seeing, or...reading that she was unhappy wasn't something he could ignore until he felt as if he had done something to fix it. He had had a bit of a chuckle when she had denied that it had to be her own horse she had, knowing that wasn't the case.

And though he couldn't actually do as he had jokingly suggested, and bring her her own horse, the idea that replaced it came to him as he left work to join her. He had passed a shop that sold toys, and seen the small horse made of soft cloth. He had been unable to resist purchasing it for her. It was a silly thing, really. A child's toy. But he was sure that it would bring a smile to her face, and that was the point. He understood the feeling of missing home, though they had each other. He missed his friends a great deal, and worried about them just as much.

He watched her move in to the living are from the doorway of the kitchen, moving in to the room behind her as she sat on the couch. Leaning down, he rested his hands on her shoulders.

"A temporary replacement for the real thing."

She jumped a little when she felt something touch her shoulders, turning to see it was Robin. Smiling, she looked back to the horse as she held it closer. He always seemed to know the exact thing to do to make her feel better. He understood she was feeling sad and he went and done something to cheer her up. It was one of the many reasons she loved him, he just understood what she needed so well.

"Thank you," she said as she looked up at him before lowering her head to kiss his hand.

Then her eyes were back on her horse. He had been quite good at choosing one. It was almost the same colour as her one back home, and it just made things a little bit better. Looking back up at him, she took one of his hands and squeezed it.

"Join me?"

"It seemed as though you needed something to cheer you up," he said when she thanked him, leaning down to kiss her cheek. And it looked as though he had made the right choice, seeing the way she was holding it.

When she squeezed his hand, he returned the gesture before letting go of her hand so he could move around to the front of the couch and sit next to her, slipping an arm around her back.

"We won't be stuck here forever. We just have to make the best of what we have." Or at least, that was what he hoped. He did love being in a place where he was free to be with Marian, but the worry for his friends, for the people of Nottingham, wasn't something he could ignore.

"And it worked, thank you," she said with a smile, grinning more at the kiss to her cheek.

The moment he sat next to her, she curled up against him, the little horse not once leaving her sight or hold. He always just knew what to do, how to make her happy, and it just showed her how much they loved each other. Smiling, she held the horse closer, her free hand resting on his knee.

He was right. They just had to make do with what they had here. And if that meant having a toy horse instead of a real one, then she would be happy with that. After all, it was rather childish being this upset over not having a horse. But it was something she had since she was little, and it was hard not to miss something like that.

"At least we're here together."

"Good, I'm glad," he smiled seeing the grin on her face. That was an improvement.

Once she curled against him he rested his hand against her side where it was around her, watching her as she watched the horse. Sometimes he was still incredibly surprised about how affectionate she had become with him. Of course, becoming more intimate did mean a greater level of closeness, and yet that was only one aspect of it. When he had left her, in his time, she had only just been starting to come around again. Had still seemed to not have fully forgiven him.

"That's what I meant," he agreed with her when she spoke. "Things will be fine as long as we're together."

She looked up at him when he agreed with her, leaning up to press her lips to his softly. After a moment, she pulled back, playfully tapping his nose with the hoof of the horse. Giggling, she looked back down to the horse, running it along his leg.

"I may not be able to ride it, but it's just as good."

Perhaps she was placing a bit too much love on a toy horse, but she didn't care. She suddenly felt a lot happier than she did that morning. She was curled up with Robin and she had a little horse to hold. Strange how that made her feel better.
